Title: THE WILD ONE (1953)
Post by: The Burgomaster on June 18, 2009, 08:37:24 AM
I recently bought this DVD at Best Buy for $3.99.  What a bargain.

Without this early, landmark outlaw biker film, AIP and Al Adamson probably never would have made all those low-budget biker flicks we've come to know and love (or hate).

A young (and very cool) Marlon Brando plays Johnny, the leader of the Black Rebels Motorcycle Club.  He leads his gang into a small town where they drink beer, raise hell, and use a lot of early 1950s jive talk.  Before long, rival biker Chino (Lee Marvin) and his boys show up, adding to the mayhem.

The most famous line in the movie, and a very concise insight into Brando's character, is when a local girl asks Brando what he's rebelling against.  He replies, "What d'ya got?"

Although the movie is generally good, there is a fist fight between Brando and Marvin where the stunt doubles are VERY obvious.   This is very distracting and may even make you chuckle, but I can live with it.

Great movie!
I always think of Wally Wood's MAD comic version...
