Title: Hell's Kitchen: Season 6
Post by: Ash on July 22, 2009, 04:44:10 AM
Wow!
Who would'a thunk it?
Two seasons of Hell's Kitchen in one year!?
I must be in Heaven.

Or Hell...
er...

Hell's Kitchen!

This new season was a total surprise for me.  I never saw it coming.
Was it a surprise for you too?

I think the producers got together and said, "We want this season to be a real freak show!  Let's get the caziest motherf*****'s we can find!"
Hence, the freakshow intro.

So far it feels kind of cheap and scripted and planned out.
As always, the saving grace of this show is Chef Ramsay himself.
His insults never get old.

And it's so awesome that big Robert is back in the game!
He was my favorite contestant from last season.

I liked when Van started yelling at the Maitre'D in the restaurant and almost had a fistfight, and Ramsey was trying to break it up.  He asked Jean-Phillipe (who's Dutch or French, I forget) what the problem was, and JP goes "There's a communication problem."  Ramsey says "He speaks English" and JP goes "Yeah but he's from Texas."

Unfortunately this show is about to jump the shark.  Why?  Whenever contestants start answering back the main guy or the judge it starts to suck...hard.  However, I was entertained for 2 hours.  The girl that got kicked out had some wonderful blank stares when Ramsey was yelling at her about the pasta.

Insane.... totally insane.......

I hate reality TV. I mean how does one guy with an anger management problem remain entertaining. O wait he does not, they have to bring in contestants with serious issues as well.

I thought JP was going to throw down there for a second.  He was peeved.  Wow.  The blank stare girl was weird.  I think that she had a food fetish.  I watched her facial expressions when she was talking about the Lobster Tail.  I am glad she is gone.

Later,

John

After this week I have to admit, I see more potential in some of these contestants than last season.  That guy that got kicked out was a bit of a moron.  Has he seen the show?  Doesn't he realize Ramsey yells at people?

I missed last week's episode.
What happened between Chef Ramsay and that punk who got in his face?

Who got eliminated?

Has anyone been keeping up with Hell's Kitchen lately?

Van was booted off the show last week.  Thank God.  That kid was annoying as hell.

It's down to the final 5 and I'm thinking that the guy with the cast on his hand has the best chance of winning.

There's a new episode tonight.
Who do you think will get kicked out next?

Van was too much of a hick for me.  I think the bald guy who looks like Scott's clone (sprained ankles) will take it.  The one armed kid is amazing though and I like his vibe.  However, he doesn't really seem agressive and Ramsey will pounce on that.  Taneal (spelling?) has a ton of heart but is a bit glib on terminology.

Unfortunately the DVR is being used to capacity on Tuesday nights in my house.  However, I've been listening to it at work the past few episodes off IMDB.

I'm hoping Suzanne gets booted next, she's kind of a ditz.  However, part of me finds her kind of cute.

Ugh!
Tenille may be a decent cook, but I've come to the conclusion that it's not physically possible for her to speak in a normal tone of voice.
Listen to her the next time you watch the show.
She yells everything!  Even in the closed room cam interviews, she literally yells the entire time.

She makes my head hurt every time she opens her mouth.

Tune in to see who will win.

Dave will take it.  He seems to be running his kitchen a bit better, which is what you need to do to be a manager or head chef.

Yep.  My money is on him too.

Ha!  Dave won!

Overall, this season of Hell's Kitchen was rather disappointing.
Much of the conflict seemed scripted and I actually didn't care one iota about any of the contestants.

Hopefully it doesn't totally jump the shark next season.
I'd rate Season six 2 1/2 stars out of 4.

What did you think?

Overall, I liked last season better.  While I like Ramsay as a host, I prefer his other show, Kitchen Nightmares, where he goes to various restaurants, and shows them ways to improve business: advertising, changing menus, cleaning things properly, etc.

If you have a good cable TV package and get BBC America, I definitely recommend checking out the British version titled "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares".
It's less sensationalized than the American version and much better in my opinion.

I like that version as well.  I don't actually subscribe to BBC America, but they throw the episodes up for free on the OnDemand section, so I follow it there.

I have to admit I was expecting Kevin to win.  He seems like the more solid and mature chef but Dave suprised me a bit with the leadership skills.  He usually seems too chill but he pulled it off nicely.

I agree the show has the potential to jump the shark soon.  As stated earlier, the minute contestants start answering the host or judges back the show starts to suck more.  I did love in the excperts how they parodied the "I'm no ones b*tch" guy.  He had to be the most dumbest contestant ever to pull that.

I'd personally love to go eat at Hell's Kitchen or any of the restaurants the former winners have opened.  Not sure but did Heather (previous winner) lose her job at the place she was working?

I think it was something like that.
I remember reading something on the IMDB discussion boards that a couple of the winning chefs got shafted when it came to the grand prize.
Rock was one of them.  It was something about Chef Ramsay promising them one thing and then the powers that be behind the scenes promising them another.
Ramsay obviously felt bad that Heather's prize didn't work out so he made her a sous chef on the show.  I always wondered what was up with her this season.  She looked like s**t the entire season and had a frown on her face every time she appeared on camera.

I'll try and find the discussion if it's still on there and post the link here.

After looking a few past winners, it seems most of their contracts last a year for their grand prize.
