I just bought this DVD and watched it tonight.  It's . . . well . . . offbeat, to say the least.

Male and female citizens from the Chinese mainland attempt to enter Hong Kong illegally.  They end up getting captured and locked up in a barn by a band of smugglers.  They are held for ransom, sold into prostitution, humiliated, beaten, degraded, and raped.  To avoid being raped, one woman covers herself in cow manure and another wraps herself in barbed wire.  One woman has hot wax poured on her naked back.  One guy gets his throat bit out.  A bunch of people in a tent are beaten with poles and shovels.  There is also a fairly explicit "man on man" rape scene (don't say I didn't warn you).

The movie isn't as gory as I expected, but there's plenty of nudity (including full frontal), several rapes, and lots of beatings. 

The movie does have somewhat higher production values than I would have expected (particularly the cinematography, which is pretty good).  But it also has some drawbacks such as:

* It gets sort of repetitive after awhile, with one humiliation scene or beating after another.
* The sound effects for the punches, kicks, and clubbings are the same cheesy smacking sounds they used in the cheap martial arts movies from the 1970s.
* The ending isn't as exciting as it could have been.

Overall, not great, but probably worth seeing if your an exploitation movie fan.  It's sort of a precursor to today's "torture porn" movies.
