Title: Concept art from my comic book (has giant monsters!)
Post by: daveblackeye15 on August 20, 2009, 04:48:13 PM
Don't know if anyone cares or remembers but a while ago I mentioned that I was trying to create a comic book. One of my dreams in fact. I'm trying to do my spin on the whole henshin/Ultraman idea. I've been showing these around to get feedback. I drew the rough sketches, sent them to my artist who made them into something worthwhile.

This one is the main character, there is a LOT I thought we should change, number one...those dukes he's wearing. She may have a second draft in a few days, I do rather love his face and claws.

Any feedback? Crappy? Neat? Potential?

I can't get that 2nd link to work.

But as for the 1st photo (flying monster) I like him, I like the eyes idea, I want to see him in color! Great potential.
Do you have a name for him yet?

The monster man (star on head) he looks cool too. Keep up the great work.

I've uploaded the link that's not working to imageshack.

Flying Monster=Barultan.
2nd Monster/Crawling reptile=Largis
Main character=Title of the comic/public name is Saintly Darkness, codename for military opperations is "Titan", human's name is Arnez.
There is also a giant queen bug monster but that's the oldest and getting some redesigns, but there wil be a few more monsters.

Since this site has quite a lot of kaiju fans I thought I should start sharing some stuff.

Yeah I'm the writer/initial creature designer/idea guy who went out looking for someone that can actually draw. I'm always asking her 'hey what's YOUR opinion on this' since I don't want to create a situation where it's like I'm a snobby boss and she can't ever voice anything.

She's the one who made my sketches into something cool.

I've actually given her a list of monster movies to watch for references. Among them Gojira, the 90s Gamera movies, Godzilla 1984 and Godzilla vs Biollante, among others.

I'm sort of trying to aim for what 1984 and Biollante were doing: taking their source seriously and working politics, economics, and even a bit of culture influence, and putting them into an entertaining movie.

Don't get me wrong, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah is a fun romp, but it's not exactly thought provoking like the previous two Heshi movies where.

Of course this may not turn out so good but you gotta try.

Cool stuff, you do nice work. How long have you been doing this type of stuff?

It looks like you left the 'j' off the end of the second link, it works fine what the is added.

Thanks for the feedback, this is the first time I've actually gone out to try to make a comic book. I've written plenty of stories for a while now.

I've only been working on this project for a few months, sometime before June, maybe started in May?
