Scottish leader defends Lockerbie bomber release
LONDON – Scotland's government defended itself Sunday against unrelenting criticism from the U.S. over the decision to free the Pan Am Flight 103 bomber on compassionate grounds.

Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, a Libyan convicted of killing 270 people in the 1988 airline bombing, was released Thursday because he is terminally ill with prostate cancer. He has returned to his native Libya to die.

His release was met with outrage by families of the U.S. victims of the bombing and criticized by President Barack Obama as "highly objectionable."

FBI director Robert Mueller said in a letter to Scotland's government that al-Megrahi's release would give comfort to terrorists all over the world. Speaking Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union," Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that releasing the bomber was "obviously a political decision..."

The murdering scum should have eaten a bullet ten years ago.  Did you see the hero's welcome those Libyans gave him at the airport?  Oh, yeah, blowing up 270 innocent civilians is a sure ticket to paradise!  When the cancer finishes what the Justice System should have done, that scumbag is in for a rude awakening!

I kept thinking it would be nice to see one of our "Daisy-cutters" hit that runway right as his plane touched down.

People often wonder what a true Scot wears under his kilt.

My answer to this is that my foot will be under this man's kilt as it will be very, very far up his ass.  :hatred:

So he was released on compassionate grounds? Big deal. Where was his compassion in 1988? :hatred:

This was jaw-dropping.  The idea that the Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond told BBC Radio:

"I understand the huge and strongly held views of the American families, but that's not all the families who were affected by Lockerbie," Salmond said. "As you're well aware, a number of the families, particularly in the U.K., take a different view and think that we made the right decision."

"A "number" of the families..." ???  That is the lamest defense I can imagine being swallowed for the release of the murderer of 270 people.    :hatred:

Id like to see ONE family member willing to step forward and support this release.  So the rest can gang-tackle him.

The Scottish government is pretending to speak for other families. This is Socialist propaganda at it's best.

They're afraid: That's why they let him go.  The last thing they need is to give this guy martyrdom by dying in the custody of an alleged US "ally."  This would be Al Qaeda's excuse to rip Scotland a new one, and they know it.  This is a move to distance Scotland and the Isles as far from U.S. policy as possible to prevent the backlash that would take place if he died.

This scum could have "eaten a bullet" as Inidiansmith said, but guns are illegal in Europe.
