Title: British man collapses with ruptured appendix, 3 weeks after Dr.'s removed it
Post by: trekgeezer on August 27, 2009, 01:03:10 PM
A spokesman for Great Western Hospital confirmed that a representative had met Mr Wattson and that an investigation had been started.

He was unable to confirm what, if anything, was removed in the first operation.

Paul Gearing, deputy general manager for general surgery at Great Western Hospital NHS Trust, said: 'We are unable to comment on individual cases.

'However, we would like to apologise if Mr Wattson felt dissatisfied with the care he received at Great Western Hospital.'

Would you be dissatisfied with your care?!  Boy, bureaucrats are stupid no matter where you are in the world.

This is an article from the Daily Mail. Which means that this is story is most likely fake or been altered a lot from what really happened.

So it sounds weird and extreme but most likely total BS. Decent UK news sources are the BBC website, (Newspapers:) The Times, The Independent or The Guardian.

He's right.

Not sure about the Guardian, though. I like The Guardian a lot but is biased.

You know we have tabloids here too, but they are relegated to the checkout stands at the Walmart or the local grocery store.  I will say say that the photos in yours are far more convincingly real than the ones in ours.

Ours are also constantly being taken to court for printing BS.

The right wingers here are probably propagating this story all over the place as another example of how the evil government run health care in the UK sucks.

Well in academic work the Guardian is a trustworthy source but mainly for some of their excellent interviews as well as some excellent articles but I normally only use for some topics or interviews from their website. I am quite a fan of the independent, which is my normal paper of choice.

The times is also one I pick up every so often.

Opps sorry should have addressed this in other post.

Well here in the UK they are the better sellers and the decent 3 I listed are somewhere mixed in with them on the shelf. Well we have 2 types of tabloids here, 1st we have the ranting society is coming to an end/raging nationalism/Blaming different groups for the issues of society (Youths, Single parent families.....). Then the 2nd type is those which has shifted the focus more to porn, , celebrities, sport and just more extreme ranting of the 1st (These are generally separated from the decent papers due to exposed breasts being most the cover).

Considering the guy who owns the daily mail also owns Fox News...... I think you hit the nail on the head, this could be part of the motive behind the article. Of course there is always the anti government motive which helps sell papers.

I did not read the whole story, but this seems to be exactly what happend to a colleague of mine a couple of weeks ago. He went to the hospital to get the appendix removed, had an operation, left the hospital the other day, went home, had terrible pain in the stomach a couple of day later, went to the hospital again and had an emergency operation to remove the already ruptured appendix (including blood in the abdominal cavity, sepsis, etc.) - this time for real. Before, they had removed a bulk of "fatty tissue" instead. This was actually a close one...
