Title: What is the original of this parody?
Post by: schmendrik on September 23, 2009, 12:07:28 PM
I posted this in another thread, but this gives me an excuse to post it again. One of my favorite YouTubes, an artsy "French" film called "Je Suis Henri". (The French seems to be real as far as I can tell, but the pronunciation is a little bizarre).

Rev. Powell asked whether anyone can recognize what this is parodying. I agree with the Rev that it seems very familiar somehow. This seemed like the most appropriate forum to ask the question: Does anyone know a serious French film that this reminds them of?

I can tell you the music is "Gymnopedie" by French composer (of course) Erik Satie, if that helps.

Thanks Schmendrik, I am very curious.  Of course, it may be just a general "French art film" vibe we're catching, but the voiceover over "Gymnopedie" is what seems like it's lifted from another film.  I asked the author on the video page at youtube, so maybe we will have an answer soon.

The author said that:"nothing specific, just a general parody."

I don't know... seems like it's just a general parody of those overly serious "art house" type short films.  Where you got the narrator talking about his or her sad life, and it's very existential and whatnot, but here you flip it around make it about a cat, and it just sounds a bit silly.

At least, that's my take on it.

Yes, the author said nothing specific.  Thanks Cthulhu; I meant to come back to this thread but forgot.  Moving to "solved."
