Title: Movies you just didn't finish?
Post by: SPazzo on October 07, 2009, 08:14:16 PM
I just tried watching The Terror (1963) and I couldn't finish it.  It was just sooo slow.  I'm sure most people here have seen it, but it was on a dollar store DVD and the print was bad, and so was the DVD quality and I just turned it off.

Are there any movies anyone here just turned off because they were so sh*tty bad?

I tend to finish even the most gaddawful movies...yes even the dull as dishwater ones which I'd say well describes THE TERROR. Similar to THE TERROR in terms of dullness would be MONSTER FROM GREEN HELL so I don't recommend you run out and watch that one even though I've watched both films more than once already and I know I'll watch 'em again more than likely. Am I a glutton for punishment or just a crazed obsessed type or what?

I always finish them . . . even if I need to watch them in 15 or 20 minute increments over a period of several weeks.  It's one of my many quirks.

The Demon - this movie is just bad.  Terrible characters, no pacing, plot is all over the place.  It will take all my willpower to someday make it to the end.

Happy Birthday to Me - I love '80s slashers, but this one just did not capture my interest.

Rush Hour - another '80s slasher, after a half hour I thought I was watching a sequel to Animal House.  I really should finish this one, it probably gets better.  Yeah, right  :teddyr:

August Underground's "Mordum".  BOREdum is more like it.  About 3/4 of the way through, I could not think of a single reason to finish watching it.

Many others, but that is the most recent.

Philosophy of a Knife, the true history of a secret Japanese military camp called "Unit 731" in Manchuria, where biological warfare was tested on Chinese and Russian victims during World War II. Good movie but like 4hrs long, only made it half way through and never attempted again.

Only one thus far: WEASELS RIP MY FLESH.  I made it through the entirety of MANOS.  I made it through the entirety of THE TERROR.  I almost chickened out, but finished TOKYO GORE POLICE.  I even watched every minute of TWILIGHT.  But WEASELS RIP MY FLESH has been my downfall.

Agreed I find that one a refreshing change from the Michael Myers formula. It is certainly more interesting than the sequels that came after it.

The only film I can think of offhand that I just turned off after watching about 15 mins was Overboard with Adam Sandler. It was his first film I think and much more embarrassing than even TCM: Next Generation was for Rene Zellweger, and Matthew McConnaughey.

I always really finish my movies, no matter how much it sucks.  I watch 30 minutes of Frogs and then came back to it a week later to recover from it.  I watch 10 minutes of Titantic: The Animated Musical and didn't come back to it for a whole month.  No mater how painful it was... I came back to it.  Which reminds me, I stopped watching Super Mario Bros. Movie back in July about the time they entered that weird city, better start watching it again.

Does Pokemon the movie count?  :bouncegiggle: :twirl: :bouncegiggle:

Which one are you talking about?  The first, second, third, fourth... I could go on, but why?

Most Movies Even If They Are Terrible I End Up Sitting Through Them , But Every Once In A While I Come Across One So Hideously Awful That I Have To Turn It Off

Recently I Rented The Movie CORALINE And Turned It Off About Five Minutes In

And ABout A Year Ago I Started Watching Michael Bay's THE ISLAND And Turned It Off After A While

Usually I Sit Through The Whole Thing No Matter How Bad , But Sometimes It's Just Too Much

Only movies I occasionally don't finish are those that are extremely boring.

The Executioner 2 is one of those.  Not ENTIRELY boring, and I liked the scenes with the title character (they're so ridiculous they're funny) but waaaaay too many boring scenes in between.

God, I could spend all night naming off all these...

The Craving
The Hamiltons
Amadeus ( :buggedout:)
Cheerleader Massacre
Ultra Violet
Tomie
The Vampire's Niece
Visiting Hours
Beast of Blood
Flawless
Hellion: The Devil's Playground
Driller Killer
The Pyx
Revenge of the Dead
The Heirloom
Silo Killer

There were a lot I almost didn't make it through.  Superbeast, I'm looking in your direction.

Cheerleader Massacre

Believe me, there's a scene in this film you don't wasnt to miss.
It involves three naked chicks, chocolate sauce and and a hot tub.

But, yeah, it is horrendously dull. You could take all the police scenes out of the film and it wouldn't affect the plot one bit. Why are they even in there ?!?!

Really?  It's quite good, although animated kiddie movies might not be your thing.  How could you tell you won't like a movie after only 5 minutes?  I don't think the plot had even started by that point, just the character setup.

Bloodlust 1961 ...

"A crazed hunter kidnaps people and turns them loose on his private estate, where he hunts them for sport."

and Zombie Nightmare 1986 ...

"Tony Washington is killed by a gang of rampant trendy teenagers. Molly Mokembe is a voodoo lady who brings him back from the dead to seek revenge on his killers so he can rest in peace."

Both flims - 20 mins into them, I just didn't want to finish ... maybe another time.

I bought it thinking, "Woo! I bet this is loaded with plenty of pointless gore and nudity."  When I saw it try to have a plot, I felt betrayed.   :hatred:  At least I got a lot of in-store credit for it at Hastings.  They sell used copies of it for something like $30 for some godawful reason.

Come to think of it there's hundreds of films I didn't finish a second time round. I used to watch lots of films with my old girlfriend and one thing would always lead to another and we'd get sidetracked. To think, that actually used to bug me, that we didn't finish watching stuff. What a dumbass I was....

The Messengers - A haunted house film. If it doesn't have the fun of Poltergeist or the chills of The Innocents...then I just don't want to know. Silly CGI nonsense with scares that I'm sure we've all seen in a million other films.

My Little Eye. - It's Big (boring) Brother.

Heaven's Gate immediately comes to mind.  It was very well crafted and all, but it had the pace of a Romero zombie.  Plus, who the hell uses mandolin music for the score of a Western?

For me the downfall was a piece my wife pulled up from netflix called "Rachel getting married".  To save you pain suffice to say it is about a dysfunctional family in which one of the sisters comes out of rehab in time to go to her sisters wedding.  I don't know what happens at the wedding because we never got that far, after the half hour of "real time" footage of the rehearsal dinner the family went home and rachel announced she was pregnant (poor kid) I begged my wife to end the pain.  To my surprise she agreed saying she didn't know the movie would be this goodawful and we threw the wrteched thing back into the mailbox with disgust in hope that something which does not suck would return to us from the ether of netflix.  The movie has that akward "realism" feel like watching home movies of a family that all secretely hate eachother but it always stays within that quiet, loathing stage. There was only one thing that could have saved this film... a horder of zombies to lustily snack on the main characters until there was not a single one left. Unfortunately that didn't happen and there was no indication that this was pending...  Where's the zombies when you need them most?

Coraline is a great movie!

Anyway, like many of you, I pride myself on being able to finish any movie. I've sat through incredibly boring movies, even if it took several sessions. I've also sat through completely disgusting and stupid trash like Feed. (Don't watch Feed, it's awful.)

The only recent movie I had to turn off was Period Piece (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808905/), and even as bad as it was I kick myself for.

Period Piece is pure garbage. I've read a lot of defenses of the film, which try to portray it as something it is not. For example, the head review on IMDb says it is "the best portrayal of the loneliness that our so called civilized world drives many unique persons to if they are no longer of any use."

If you want to know what happens in this movie, well it is basically loving close-ups of a senior citizen's junk, extended sequences of men raping plush dolls with cans of baked beans, and even more extended sequences of mentally challenged homeless men expounding on all their favorite porn in the most obscene manner possible. I suppose you could graft high-minded ideas to this garbage, but all I saw was a geek-show. A geek-show dedicated to mocking its protagonists, reprehensible as they are.

Just the worst thing I've seen trying to pass itself off as a movie. I stopped it after a long forty minutes, more out of boredom than disgust. Pure garbage. Of course, I still kick myself for breaking my resolve to finish every movie I ever start. If any of you ever finish this, I'll do it. Don't start it though. There's nothing good here.

"Sukiyaki Western Django"

Since I like spaghetti westerns, Tarantino movies, and cheesy Asian cinema, I thought this movie would be a sure thing.  I rented it from Netflix and tried to watch it today.  What little of it I sat through was so painfully retarded that I had the disc sealed back in the envelope and ready to go less than 10 minutes after I inserted it into the DVD player.

I can pretty much tolerate any movie, good or bad. At the moment though, I'm having a tough time getting through PENITENTIARY 2. Seeing mr.t helps, but an ex boxer/ex con who is now a rollerskating messenger on wheels makes it had to take the movie seriously.

So far...

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) ~ It seemed like a movie that required my fullest amount of attention to watch and enjoy. It looked like a good movie and an intresting one too but it also seemed very long... 147 mins seemed too long for me to sit thru. :)

Although, I might see the movie if its on Netflix instant play, or on cable again (so I could record it) or maybe I'll buy it (if its less then 10 dollars) and watch the movie in parts.

Coons! Night of the Bandits of the Night (2005) ~ I'm not sure how much I seen but once I seen the fake beard I said "no!" the movie seemed too much like a bunch of friends with a video camara and instead of putting their movie on Youtube they sold it to troma. No talent and nothing funny... it was too painful for me to watch... :)

I rarely never finnish a movie but there have been a few which I just couldn't stand

Songs from the second floor. God why did I rent this movie, because it said something about night of the living dead and supposedly Roger Ebert liked it (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0001AP0PE.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)
This movie also deserves to be placed in with the worst cover art thread

Ghost Rider. Fell asleep during it and didn't care enough to finish. Just boring and stupid.

Honorable mentions (Meaning I reluctantly finished) The Spirit,The Happening

Bought it.  Sat through every minute of it.  Much of it was boring or silly.  Some of the CGI was horrible (and not even finished!)
