I've seen this but can't remember what the title is.
This is going to drive me nuts trying to remember now.

For some reason I'm getting a Tales From the Darkside vibe.
I seem to remember it being a segment on a TV show.

Is this perhaps the episode Charlie Boy from the Hammer House of Horror series?

Can you give a better idea of the period of the film? I.E. black and white, the decade, etc?

Is this perhaps the episode Charlie Boy from the Hammer House of Horror series?

No, it is definitely not.  Charlie Boy was a completely inanimate object.

thank you for all pf the suggestions but none of them are that movie....trilogy of terror is close but almost like a remake...in the movie im thinking of this women gets the doll as a gift and she doesnt like the sash across it so she willing takes it off, but it says on the sash in a different language not to remove it or the spirit in the doll will come alive.

dude, it has to be trilogy of terror. im not positive there isnt another ripoff floating around somewhere but its dead on in your description. here is some comparisons that might lead you to believe what you are thinking of, you certainly could be mistaken because they are so close in resemblance.

the doll is wearing a dress that could easily be called a sash. it has a gold chain around its waist on top of the dress/sash and THAT gets taken off letting the spirit into the doll causing it to come alive. There is a warning that comes with the doll that says if you remove the chain the doll will come to life (more or less).

she throws the doll in an oven not a dryer.

the doll doesn't necessarily say "chop, chop" but it does scream and make crazy grunting noises (which may or may not sound like chop, chop).

the doll wasn't given as a gift but PURCHASED as a gift for her boyfriend.

the doll carries a spear then upgrades to a kitchen knife.

I don't know if you are still around - the one talking about the doll movie above.  I saw this movie with I was a small boy living in Los Angeles.  I've thought about that doll since then and wondered what movie it was.  Never saw it or heard it referenced ever.  What I remember was that She had gotten the doll somewhere and brought it home.  The doll looked like a raggedy ann sort of rag doll with a very large mouth with zig zaggy triangle shaped teeth which fit together in a line, like Charlie Browns shirt, but, in a big ear to ear smile across it entire face.  It was very small, small body with a big flat head and big face and round big eyes.  She noticed a chain around it's neck that I believe had a warning not to remove it.  She did so anyway, and put the doll down.  She went into the other room.  I think it started when She looked back into the room while passing back by and the doll was gone.  I just remember bits and pieces of the scenes.  I don't know what order, but, there was a bathroom scene where she ran in and closed the door and the doll was pushing the door open - it was very strong.  All She could do to keep it closed - she ran the tub full of water, grabbed a towel and let the door go, the door flew open, the doll ran right for Her and caught the doll in the towel and shoved it into the water and drowned it, held it down until it stopped fighting and screaming.  Then She, thinking it was over, walked down the hall away from the bathroom - POV that is vivid and maybe the scariest shot in the movie for me.. the shot is low to the floor, just Her feet walking towards the camera down the long hall with the open bathroom door at the end - just as She passes, you see the dolls head look around the door and then running wildly down the hall.  Oh god, that was all I could stand back then as a kid!  I remember shreeking and huddling up on the couch.  Somehow it gets a kitchen knife and I remember Her trying to catch this thing in a suitcase same way as with the towel.  This scene may have been before the bathroom.  She catches it and it seems Shes got it, but, then it starts to cut its way out of the suitcase.. and she's so scared and helpless, She actually tries to grab the end of the knife as it pops up through the side of the suitcase.  At some point, She runs into the kitchen and turns on the oven.  She holds the kitchen door closed for as long as She can with this thing fighting to get in.. then, She lets it in, grabs it and throws it into the hot oven and holds the door shut, just barely, as the doll goes absolutely wild screaming and growling and banging violently.  Very frightening.  She's fighting to keep the oven door shut, and grows tired and is crying.  You know during the movie somehow that Her husband is supposed to be coming home anytime.. the last scene I remember is of Her in the kitchen, on Her knees, totally possessed by the demon that was in this doll, with the knife clasped in both hands repeatedly, stabbing the floor and drawing the knife back over and over again, staring at the kitchen door in a glazed demonic stare.. waiting for Her husband.. and it ends.  Great scary movie!  I was young but savy about movies.. My Father was in the business.  It had very effective editing to say the least - for a low budget short film.  I really want to see it again.  It's got to be somewhere.  Would really like to know anything about it.. if anyone has any idea.  email me. dlmcq@gmx.com  Thanks!

Joe and "Q" both have great descriptions.  I remember seeing a movie like this.  The movie was about a doll but I don't remember the demon part.  I remember a sash and the actress being chased.  I remember an oven scene.  I want say this is a Twilight Zone episode.  I will watch this thread to see if there is an outcome.

Later,

John

I know all about this one..I was 8 or 9 when it premeired on ABC and I didn't get to sleep that night.  Same with Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark  Another great memory for me.

And yes, the doll definitely made a significant upgrade with that buthcer knife.  Great movie!

I'm thinking it could be one of these two, "The Devil's Hand" or "Terrified." I have them both on a 12 movie DVD set, there is an opening scene in one of them that reminds me of your description.

I can remember seeing the very same film 'angelmandymom' is talking about and yes the doll was indeed saying chop chop chop in a kind of demonic voice, from what i remember it was shown on tv in the early eighties (atleast here in the uk). I've not yet managed to find the name of the film but intend to keep searching as i would love to see it again. If anyone has any more info or a title please post.

After watching the 'trilogy of terror' clip i'm certain that is not the movie. The doll from the movie that I have in mind was more normal in appearence and did not look like a 'monster' as in 'trilogy of terror'. It was a female doll figure if i remember rightly, and kept saying chop chop chop! I wish i could remember more detail!

I know this movie is not part 3 of Trilogy of Terror (Amelia).  This doll was more like a child's native american indian doll.  It had an axe/tomahawk.  I remember something about a guy taking his jeans off too..  lol... :tongueout: funny what sticks in your mind!??  This is driving me crazy - someone please help figure this out!!

I remember this movie and have been wanting to know the title for years!! I remember seeing this on tv, and has to be early 80's.  The clip above from trilogy of terror is very similar, but not the movie I'm thinking.  I agree with others have posted, she removes the sash herself because she thinks it's silly that it will come alive.  And I kind of remember the sash saying "do not remove" or something like that, I don't remember a scroll? I defitinely know she throws it in the oven and after she opens it, she becomes possessed or whatever, and then talks to her boyfriend on the phone because he's on his way over to get the gift and she has this evil smile and that's how it ends.  I hope someone can find the actual title of this movie, I'd love to watch it again!!

Oh and doesn't the movie show her actually purchasing the doll? I could be totally wrong, I had to be only 6 or 7 when I saw this.

It sounds like whatever movie this was, it was pretty much a copy (rip off?) of the Trilogy of Terror Amelia story.  Wish we could find it.

I'm pretty sure the movie you want is the episode CHARLEY BOY from the HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR series: that did in fact involve a voodoo doll which one of the characters used to wreak havoc. Very scary.

Maybe that short film "The Dummy"? Or Charles Band's 1977 flick "Crash!" that involves a killer tiki though it doesn't really move, just controls things.

Post by: mlynn on August 21, 2011, 02:33:46 PM
Thanks - I looked up Charley Boy, The Dummy and Crash...  none of these are the movie/show I am talking about.  This is kind of frustrating...  In the movie I am thinking of, the statue/doll chops at people with his axe when it comes to life.  And again, it has a more of a doll like face (native american) than Trilogy of Terror doll and there are more characters in the show than just one woman.

Also - this show was in colour and the latest date it could be would be 1982, although I am thinking it was late 70's.

I have a very distinct memory of the attractive Karen Black dealing with a knife wielding fetish doll. Even the dryer incident rings a bell. A search with her name and an evil doll reveals 'Trilogy of Terror' [1975] directed by Dan Curtis. In the US this movie was known as 'Tales of Terror' and 'Terror of the Doll'.

It is not trilogy of terror, that came out in 1975. The movie referenced was played on TV when I was in 7th grade 1973, but I don't know how much earlier it was made. The doll was more chunky ish, I am trying to figure the Name out also. I will get it soon if I have to rely on old friends on FB.

not sure if it will help but I found a youtube video that makes a sort of "tribute" to these kind of movies.  Maybe if the doll you're referring to is in the "tribute" you can look at the titles in the video description and figure it out.  I'm sorry you're having such a problem with this...there's a movie I'm having just as bad a time remembering :( anyway the video is on youtube and it's called "Killer Dolls tribute"

Hi.  try "Ragdoll"  1999.  IMDB  title/tt0226362/

or:  Tales From the Hood (1995) which has 4-5 short stories contained within one larger story  (found thru www dot best-horror-movies dot com
(not allowing me to post links)

there's another one, I think, that was made into a schlock movie (?80s/90s), which was based on a book...a ragdoll left on a doorstep, coming to life after it's sewn mouth was slit open.  caucasian man runs and runs.. (?)..

The movie has to be "Amelia" or some remake of it. It's a part of the Trilogy of Terror. It was a chain, not a sash in the 1975 version.

I am so sorry you have not found the movie you are looking for but you have definitely helped me find what I've been looking for for a long time now. Amelia is exactly what I watched from behind the couch when I was about 6 or 7. I am now 40 and still cannot allow my arms or legs to dangle near the floor when lying on the couch or in bed because of that doll. It's mad, I know, and I also can't stand watching any dolls come to life in anything! It's bizarre what affects the mind. I hope you have luck in finding your movie. I'm now going to watch the whole 'Amelia' to hopefully get rid of my demons.
Thanks everyone.
