Title: Murphy's Law Sort Of Day
Post by: meQal on November 12, 2009, 03:40:35 PM
Murphy's law states "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong." That being said, I think I am having one of those days where it applies. I was on my way to bed early this morning when my wife went to screaming in pain. Needless to say I missed going to bed to take her to the hospital where she is staying.
I then I have to go to her employer to let them know she is going to be out sick and get stuck in the store for a couple of hours cause I have to fill out paperwork on her behalf for them.
I call my in-laws to let them know what was going on and my mother-in-law starts going nuts cause my eldest daughter went to sleep and left my youngest daughter(who is almost 12) to get herself ready for school. She had sent my father-in-law over to make sure my youngest had got to school and found her missing only to discover she had caught the school bus on her own. My mother-in-law went into a blind panic cause she did not know where my youngest daughter was until the school confirmed she was on the school bus by calling the school bus driver on a cell phone.
While getting an ear full from my mother-in-law on a cell phone, I was shopping for groceries. Being tired as I was. I dropped a can on my foot and yell out a few choice curse words. About that time I look up and see a priest and a couple of grandmothers shaking their heads in disapproval.
I manage to make it home finally. I get out of my car and step in a pile of dog crap that somebody's dog had left for me.
I then get into my house, put the groceries away and start to head to bed. Before I could get into my room, the phone starts ringing. It's a telemarketer. I hang up, it rings again. This continued with various people calling for about an hour.
By this point it is 10AM for me. I have been up for more than 24 hours when I start to head to bed. Now I use a CPAP machine when I sleep because I have sleep apnea. Sure enough today is the day my CPAP machine died. So I call my doctor about that. He was off this morning.
So finally, this afternoon, with almost 36 hours of no sleep, I finally get word he has written a prescription to replace it. Problem is I now have to drive a half hour to pick up the machine and then drive back, get my youngest off the school bus from school, and then take my wife some stuff she needs to the hospital. I am scared as to what might happen next. Needless to say this a a Murphy's law day for me.
So who else has had days like this. Fess up cause I know I can't be the only one who's had a day like this where "anything that can go wrong will go wrong."

Jeez, I thought I was having a bad day because I wanted to make a left turn but there was a line of cars a mile long coming the other way.

Sorry to hear about your wife - hope she's okay.  Keep us updated.

And it just keeps going downhill around here. Jsut got back from the hospital dropping off stuff for my wife. She is having surgery in the morning because she has a kidney stone that has gotten lodged in her urinary tract.
My eldest daughter is complaining about being sick and is showing signs of having either the normal flu or swine flu. Either way she is sick as a dog with it. Seeing as doctors here in Alabama are claiming anyone with flu like symptoms has swine flu, guess we will call it that.
Finally, I almost rammed a car on my way home cause some jerk decided he needed to slam on his breaks because he almost missed his turn. Needless to say, I'm going to bed. Tomorrow has to be better because at this point I don't think it can get much worse.

Rain's been steady for three days, now. Already hearing echoes of Isabelle & Gaston.

Just getting over a week long bout with pneumonia. Still having bad insomnia. Haven't been able to eat right, & only just getting my voice back.

Uncle Bob passed away on Saturday.
Robert James Boulden, April 24 1926 to November 7 2009.
I manged to make it to the last few minutes of the viewing Monday evening, but had to miss the funeral Tuesday morning.

I forgot to mention the gas.

Really loud ones.

Been a major contributor to my insomnia.

I  didn't even think about Friday the 13th being today. After yesterday, today was pretty good. Her surgery went well and she might be home tomorrow, I got all new equipment for my sleep apnea for no cost to me, and even managed to get my bills somewhat straightened out. Even my kids are getting along and i have not had to yell at them today.  So while yesterday was awful, today was pretty decent. Now if I can just find some time to get some sleep.

Good to hear that.

Well the wife is home. I brought her home last night. She is not listening to her doctors who told her to take it easy for a couple of days. I got up this morning and she had already washed all the dishes and did some laundry before passing out on the couch from her pain meds. I just hope the worst of this is behind her and she will be able to get back to doing her thing as soon as possible.

Glad to hear things are getting back to normal.  Kind of have to admire your wife's spirit.  If I ahd a doctor's orders to take it easy, I would abuse it badly.

Happy to hear things are getting better!  I feel for your wife though.. sometimes it's easier to rest knowing some of the chores are done.  I hope she takes it easy!  I wish the best of health and happiness to you and your family!

That sounds like a horrible day, and few tragic dramas (which are flights of some writer's fancy) could compare.  I'm glad that you finally got some sleep.

Meqal it seems you went through a comedy of errors and that sucks.  Like you said, it reads as comedy although I'm sure it was anything but comical.  The stepping in the pile of dog sh*t thing made me laugh because its just one of those little things that make your day even more sucktacular at times.

I seldom if ever have a day like that and I hope it is a long time before I have another. Seemed like everything sort of ran a domino effect on me. I finally got to the point I was waiting to see what happen next because the way it was going I would not of been surprised if the house had caught fire and my daughters all turned up pregnant. I am glad it is over and hope it is a very long time before I ever have a day like that again.
