Title: U.S. Seals II
Post by: Andrew on November 16, 2009, 08:58:00 PM
A SEAL officer assembles a team to stop his old partner from holding the United States hostage with two stealth nuclear missiles.  Because the rogue ex-SEAL's island base is contaminated with methane gas, nobody can fire a weapon; every battle must be fought using only martial arts.

It seems like a basic action flicks without the guns.  I should probably check this out since it sounds interesting.  Is it brutal/gory?

Sounds like a fun one, I'll have to check it out.  I'm no great strategic thinker, but if the whole island is contaminated with methane gas, couldn't you just drop one incendiary bomb and the whole place would go up?  And you can't fire guns, but you can still fire an ICBM?  I dunno, don't those thing have like, fire coming out the bottom  :teddyr:

And I'm no expert on noxious gasses, but if there's enough methane in the air to make it explosive, wouldn't it also be too toxic to breath? Eh, maybe not..

But I do know this- high concentrations of methane will cause the slightest movement to produce a loud WHOOSH!  :bouncegiggle:

". . . left for dead after falling fifteen feet onto a pile of garbage." Change "onto" into "into," and I got a flashback to "Star Wars."

That was awesome !  I almost spit my drink all over my computer several times over watching the clip with all it's "WHOOSH !!! WHOOSH !!!" action !!!

The world would be so much better if we really DID make those sounds !

According to Wikipedia, methane is explosive in concentrations of 5-15%. In itself, it is not toxic, but levels as high as that can displace oxygen. More importantly, methane can react to form toxic by-products. So, yup, bad idea on the evil overlord's part.

Of course, I didn't consider the applications of sound waves in methane. Good thought, and something to look into.

The OTT sound fx in this film reminds me of another film that Nu-Image made ~ Operation Delta Force with Jeff Fahey and Ernie Hudson. In that, a weapon (pistol, revolver, assault rifle, smg) will go 'click' anytime it is raised to fire, silenced weapons sound like they are unsilenced and vice versa.  :buggedout:

In the course of the movie, the rogue ex-SEAL launches one ICBM to show that he will do it.  That does not cause an explosion.  The good guys blow up the whole island, including the one remaining ICBM, by making a timer device that causes a lighter-sized spark.

Don't try to make sense out of that.  I tried and sprained something in my brain.

The whole movie is like that.  Action!  Dialog!  WHOOSH!

When the methane explodes it creates a mushroom cloud that devastates the island and turns everything into black cinders.  If there was a nuclear explosion in the game "Age of Mythology," it would look like that.

There is some good damage dealt out during the film.  If you like crazy action movies, you definitely need to give it a try.

Some thoughts about life on Methane Island:

Did the evil overlord make sure all of his hired goons were non-smokers?  I could see a smoker lighting up without giving it a thought, with that split-second of realization before the island goes up in flames.  That would be quite the oversight for an overlord.

Did they drive motor vehicles on that island?  You know, the kind made of steel, that use highly flammable fuel, with engines that operate on internal combustion?

Aren't swords made of metal?  In the heat of battle, isn't there a chance that one could strike something hard and throw off sparks?

Do thunderstorms occur on that island?

Man, I watched that clip and wondered why it felt so much like a Power Rangers ep. Quick look at IMDB showed that the director actually did a lot of work for it on several seasons.  :bouncegiggle:
