Title: Do You Have "The Groove" (aka The Funk)? Post by: Mr. DS on December 16, 2009, 08:16:54 PM Whenever I drive our family car I put it on satellite radio. Lately I find myself on "The Groove" which plays a lot of classic funk tracks from different decades. I've always enjoyed a funky groove in songs whether they be METAL, R&B, etc. This station more or less specializes in the R&B side of things and they seem to play a lot of 80s stuff like;

Okay, okay, it does kind of meet minimum criteria (and I have no problem with any great R&B record that I don't ever need to hear again :wink:)
BROTHERS JOHNSON is certainly more Funky, but that's really Disco. I hear the Funky thing in PATRICE RUSHEN too (embedding disabled) but that's still kind of Disco I think. I guess when I think of "Funk" I think of more busy music than, say, the "Be Thankful For What You Got" song. That's definitely soul to me. Funk, to me, has lots of bass, lots of "Uh!" or "Hey!" or "Yow!", just like James Brown. I think he should have been called "The Godfather Of Funk".
