Title: SNOWSTORM here in NEW JERSEY what about where you live?
Post by: Allhallowsday on December 19, 2009, 11:22:49 PM
It's been snowing since early this morning.  It let up a bit around 2pm and I shoveled all my walkways and my driveway.  Clearing it all out took about an hour.  Then the snow picked up momentum, around 5pm, and has not let up since, and is not expected to until tomorrow morning or so...!!  We must have 12 inches of snow on the ground, at least, and who knows we may get 2 feet!!!

Yipes!  I actually enjoy raking leaves... but shoveling snow???   :bluesad: :bluesad: :bluesad:

Here in Saskatoon, Canada, we've had snow since early December.  It averages at about -40 Celsius (though today it was only -7 Celsius).  Usually we don't have THAT bad of snowstorms.  Just pretty damn cold.

I shoveled out the driveway (we have a long driveway) around noon today.  Can't tell that I ever did it now.  It's windy here and the snow is drifting, but when we took a measurement on the back deck it looked around 18 inches.  The deck is elevated and was pretty evenly snowed, so that should be close to accurate.  The official snowfall counter in a nearby area was 15.5 inches.

It's been snowing here in Leyland (UK) since Thursday. It did rain very heavily last night, so that washed away alot of the ice and snow. But, it's gotten back upto a few inches so far this morning. Damn cold too.

Well I woke up to about 15 inches of snow in RI.  It still seems to be snowing a bit.  Luckily it seems to be kind of a drifty snow which usually is easier to shovel than the heavy stuff.  I'd best be getting on that soon.

We got the snow on the ground in my parts of Wisconsin, but the last big snowstorm we had was two weeks ago.  All the schools in the area in my town and surrounding were shut down.  Heck, Town Hall and tons of other buisness had closed as well.

I live in Maryland and it snowed all day Saturday and part of Friday night. We got about a foot.

The snow is dry and fluffy here too. It does make shoveling a lot easier. However I had very little need for shoveling because a very generous neighbor used a very powerful snow blower to clear everybody's front walkways and the main sidewalk.

Here in Cumbernauld we've had fairly heavy snow since around Three o'clock on Thursday afternoon. There is currently a couple of inches of snow on the ground which should lie for a while as the temperatures are mostly below zero.

It's been raining here in Newfoundand all day. Almost all the snow is gone. Looking more and more like another green Christmas  :bluesad: Years back, we always seemed to have mainly white Christmases but now they seem to be getting rarer.

I'm here in Philly, and got a nice 24 inches or so of snow.

Now, normally, I LOVE snow.  Love, love, love it.

But, when I had to WALK to work during the blizzard because : A.) no bus route goes from my house to work, and B.) I have no car, then walk home an hour later, because, to quote my manager: "We're not busy."  No s**t Sherlock.  When there's a BLIZZARD, people don't suddenly get the urge to go grab a couple burgers from the local burger joint...

I like to see just enough snow to cover things on Christmas but not enough to keep people from seeing friends and family or to hinder other plans.

Well...the drive to work was good at some points fair/poor in others.  The city where I work at seemed to have plowed down the road once if I were to venture a guess.

I have to get to my shed today.  I think theres a snow drift there about 5 feet tall.

Our house is in a cul-de-sac, and yesterday there was a backhoe (probably hired by the homeowners association) moving the snow out of the road.  He pushed most of the snow in the cul-de-sac circle into a large pile in our front yard.  It's probably 8 feet tall.  My kids are in heaven.

I had to rescue Jenna from a drift yesterday because she was stuck.  It was almost up to her armpits and she had lost her boot.  She is 6, almost 7, and very tall her her age.

Clearing out our very long driveway left me a little sore today, which is impressive.

There is such a wide range in the New England area.  My brother lives about an hour outside of Worcester and got 2 inches of snow.  Same with my mother who lives in Western, MA.  Meanwhile in RI we got our @sses kicked.

Well it took me 2 hours to get into work today, when normally it takes me 20mins on the bus. All the roads were caked in heavy snowfall and the council hadn't bothered to send out any gritters.

I live in Roanoke, VA and the official snow measurement at the airport was 17.6 inches.
It was the biggest snow fall we've had since January 1996.  We usually only average 22 inches of snow total each year so mother nature was getting a jump on the start of winter this year for sure!

Just rain, rain and more rain here in Portland.  Not super cold, around in the 40s.  This is the last year I stay in my apartment; the wet weather brings even more mold and mildew in my apartment than before.  Hello, allergies!

Where I live in PA got I would have to guess about 6 to 8 inches of snow.  Some other areas within a 50 mile radius of where I live got hit really hard, like some areas got like 20+ inches of snow and some others didn't get as much.

Well being in Alabama, it's seldom we ever get snow, let alone a blizzard. (One did happen in my lifetime in 1993 here in Alabama. Spent about a week trapped in the middle of nowhere in a car.) What we have been getting is rain, and lots of it. Why I am enjoying today because it's sunny outside however that is going to change come tomorrow when more rain moves in for Christmas Eve.

I dunno how you can say that.  Me personally, I love the two feet of snow we got here in Philly, and couldn't be happier.  I can't fathom living anywhere else, and say that in all sincerity.  I have some family that moved to Florida, and I was thinking about moving there, then I thought: No snow, no Wawa, no Tastykake...I can't do it. :teddyr:

No snow here in rural Newfoundland at the moment. Bad for those who love ski-doos and skiing (I'm not but strangely I love the indoor coziness that goes with winter) but I'm happy to not have to shovel show. Still it's very unusual (much warmer than normal) for here this time of the year though.

Here in Arkansas we had a slight chance of snow this week, but most of it didn't materialize.  We were at 14 F this morning, but the wind chill was -5 to 5.

Saturday morning the low is supposed to be 7 with the high at about 18, we may get above freezing by Sunday. Other than being colder that a well digger's ass in Idaho we have nice sunny skies.
