It is horrible and proof there are worse things in the Star Wars Universe than Jar-Jar Binks. A website I visit that is devoted to writting caption had pictures form The Star Wars Holiday Special a couple of years ago. I wish I could erase my mind of it like he was able to.
I told my friend about the special. He is a gigantic Star Wars fan and watched it right away. He siad it wasn't that bad as everyone said it was. Was he watching even the right show? By the way, if anyone's interested, the full movie is on Google Videos. (Not that I would advise illegally downloading or watching copyrighted material without paying for it. But then again, George Lucas is denying it's existence, I doubt he would sue.)

Wasn't a fan of the flicks, but gave it a try. BUT, I'm a fan of this special. Mainly, cause for as much as I LOATHE Star Wars, I quite like Chewbacca. Mind you, I hated the original flick and it's two sequels, saw Phantom Menace in theaters, hated that but liked Jar Jar Binks.
And I like that Lucas hates this, and hates Howard the Duck, but Howard made it's way to dvd. Fingers are crossed now, in the hopes it finds it's way to dvd. It is notable maybe only for having the 1st appearance of Boba Fett albeit in animated form. My favorite part, much like the original Star Wars, was the cantina scene although I was rather confused even back then as to why Maude was the proprietor. Of course when I saw it again years later on a bootleg vhs it was nigh unwatchable. I haven't been brave enough for a third time.

I was lucky at the time to know sort of an "alternative" video store, where you could find - along with the old classics, genre films, anime, foreign and new releases - the odd bootleg of stuff like this.
For those who have already experienced it unembellished and can't bear to go through it again without help, Rifftrax has actually done the holiday special, commercials and all. I tried it a couple of years ago with the version I picked up from Google Video, and it synced pretty well. Very funny. I put the combined tracks on a DVD for easier repeat viewing.
