I love that film, and it's due out on a newly restored DVD next month!  The review is written, I'm just waiting for the new DVD to put on the final touches.

All the Bruce Lee movies - must have watched those 5 time each.  I was really into the Jean Claude Van Damme movies for a bit, but I'm kind of over that now.  Ninja 3 The Domination is another favorite.  Any of those cheesy kung fu movies from the '80s.  Cynthia Rothrock flicks are always good for a chuckle.

I think I'll post all my favorite 70's and 80's Kung Fu movies up 1st, then I'll start posting all my others.

Master of the Flying Guillotine 1974

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmdP1qTjGZY

This is the Kung Fu movie that started it all for me. I watched it with my grandfather in the mid 70's!

A few titles off the top of my head:

KUNG FU HUSTLE
MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE
FANTASY MISSION FORCE
ENTER THE DRAGON (of course)

A find a lot of kung fu movies tend to be entertaining, but interchangeable.  I like to watch them, but sometimes it doesn't seem to matter that much which one I throw in the player.  They're all so ridiculous, it takes a lot for one to stand out from the pack.

No wire-fu at all.   It gets on my nerves.  I love watching real artists like Masta Bwuce.  It much better yo see a real fighter than some actor up on strings doing patently impossoble stuff.

Its a lousy film, but I like Bloodsport just for all the different fighting styles.

I love kung fu films, but I agree with you on that.  Particularly those from the Golden Age - 1972ish to about 1981.

One of the more recent ones to stand out is Ip Man.  It's a great film on a martial arts level, as well as a good film from a narrative stand point.  Even the performances are good.  The ending is a little weak though, I must say.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qhPDEOYbx4

Aside from that one, a *martial arts* movie (almost no bare handed fighting) that I enjoyed a lot is One Armed Swordsman.  It's another one that actually has a good storyline, good directing and performances, as well as entertaining fight sequences (it's from 1967, though, so the choreography is quite primitive compared to later works).  The sequel's plot and storyline stuff is not nearly as good, but it vastly amps up the body count and expands into almost superherodom for the lead character, making it still a very entertaining film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyUTANNAGAY

There's the amped up new trailer by Celestial.

Another very enjoyable one is She Shoots Straight.  Stars Joyce Godenzi, a woman who started in HK action films with no martial arts training.  She's very impressive considering this.  Never enjoyed much success (something many attribute to racism, as she is half-white), but her handful of films are worth checking out, especially She Shoots Straight.  Probably has the best catfight on film.

Actually, I grew up watching alot of the Bruceploitation films starring Bruce Li. I actually liked alot of them, especially Bruce Lee: the Man, the Myth. But I will agree with alot of the other mentions as well. Master of the Flying Guillotine was big for me when I was a boy.

The Bruce Lee films are a given of course:

ENTER THE DRAGON
THE CHINESE CONNECTION
FISTS OF FURY
GAME OF DEATH

Also really like some of the Bruce Li films, cheesy as they often are:

BLIND FIST OF BRUCE
IMAGE OF BRUCE LEE
FIST of FURY III
BRUCE LI THE INVINCIBLE

Great and fun Jackie Chan pics:

TO KILL WITH INTRIGUE (1977)
THE DRUNKEN MASTER (1978)
FANTASY MISSION FORCE (1982)
POLICE STORY (1985)
ARMOUR OF GOD (1987)
POLICE STORY 2 (1988)
ARMOUR OF GOD II (1991)
POLICE STORY III (1992)
THE LEGEND OF THE DRUNKEN MASTER (1994)
RUMBLE IN THE BRONX (1995)
MR. NICE GUY (1997)
WHO AM I? (1998)

Also really enjoy the following most of which are terrific dubbed chop-socky primo grade cheese and most actually have darn good Kung Fu fighting to boot.

SHAOLIN CHASTITY KUNG FU (1981)
SECRET OF THE SHAOLIN POLES (1977)
KILLER PRIEST (1977)
THE SHAOLIN INVINCIBLES (1977)
INCREDIBLE KUNG FU MISSION (1982)

Just a great film:

ZATOICHI (1964)

Ahh.  A thread I can sink my teeth into.
I got REALLY bored with American cinema recently and decided to try some of the newer Asian films that were coming out at the time.
I found Shinobi: Heart Under Blade (the live action adaptation to an anime of the same title) to be entertaining.
Then I discovered Bey Logan's Dragon Dynasty Collection.
This collection has either introduced or reintroduced me to some of the finest cinematic efforts to hit any screen from all areas of the "Oriental" region of Asia.  Korean films, Thai films (Born to Fight and The Protector being my favorites from there).  A ton of Chinese films, Japanese films, Basically anywhere with an "accepted" form of martial art.
From classic films of the Shaw Brother's age such as 36th Chamber of Shaolin and Come Drink With Me, to newer films like Hard Boiled and The Protector.
Over all, I think that Asian cinema has vast, untapped potential.
The actors seem to genuinely believe in the project and role before them.  The crew is almost fanatically dedicated, and the stunt men, especially in the new Thai films are clinically insane.  For proof of that, watch the fight scene in the fiend command center between the hero and the #1 henchman in Born to Fight.
As for a list of favorites?  Wow.  The prerequisites have already been named.  Any of Master Bruce's films and the 5 Deadly Venoms, along with the classic Shaw Brothers films, but as for the new stuff...It's got to be Seven Swords, Fatal Contact, and City of Violence
Thai Chi Master with Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh has some awesome fight scenes and some great comedy, but the editing was somewhat lacking because there are times when the wires are plainly visible.
Kill Zone with Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung showcases an amazing array of MMA and Wu Shu from the three characters involved, and aside from an ending that made me go "Man, thats f@@ked up", was a great film.
I mentioned in another thread, a film called Dog Bite Dog.  For sheer ferocity of fighting, I don't think this film has many competitors.  The creators draw upon current political conflicts of the region, as well as the standard good guy bad guy thing.  Also with a f@@ked up ending, I don't think it's that different from most American films in content.
I could go on forever on this topic, but I think I made my point.

The 36 Chambers a.k.a. Master Killer is a fantastic movie about the training of monks. It gets a little supernatural at times but it mostly focuses on intense training sequences. It's title was used as the title of the 1993 Wu Tang Clan album "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" The 80's Jackie Chan films are among the best, both as martial arts films but also as standalone films. Project A and Project A2 are outstanding. The 5 Deadly Venoms has been mentioned already and it is good

On a side note the first kung fu film I ever watched was 18 Weapons of Kung Fu. Has anybody else seen it?
