Title: Irish actress claims "Kill A Tourist Day" in South Africa
Post by: Trevor on January 12, 2010, 02:22:28 AM
So, I suppose that there isn't crime anywhere else in the world?

Judging by this actress' surname, she went blue with fear when she was shot at.

I thought about that too!  :teddyr:
But when I saw the picture of her on the couch, I suddenly forgot what her name was.  Nummy..

Victoria Smurfit is pretty but the way she writes about the event irks me a little. Sure there is crime in South Africa but this is not publicity that SA needs right now, not with the World Cup coming up in June.

Agreed.. that's pretty stupid.  I would say that tourists anywhere in the world on average don't get treated much differently than the residents would treat each other.  In some parts of the world, admittedly (i.e., much of the Middle East), that's not necessarily a good thing.

Are we cetain she didn't get the injury from banging some guy in the backseat of the cab? Maybe that is where the "loud bang", "shots fired", and "going off" comes in at?

I love the way she somehow knows the whole story behind the incident. She's not only an imminent authority on gangs, but she's also apparently the world's greatest criminal profiler. One of the fringe benefits of being a good-looking celebrity is that people will print anything you have to say, no matter how stupid it is.

I do think the Cape Town police handled it pretty well. She's babbling on about gang-related attempted murder, and they're just "Um...no. Not gang related, not targeted at you, and no evidence of any crime other than the illegal discharge of a firearm." All very calm and professional. That made me smile.

I also wonder what she was doing in a black taxi which is not usually used by white South Africans? Surely she could afford a normal taxi? Black minibus taxis are crime targets and death traps on the road locally.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

Well, from what I've read so far, she doesn't sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer.
