I yell that word when somebody does something incredibly stupid, as they are so deserving.

My favorite semi-real word is hippopotomonstrosesquipedalianism. It basically means a love of big words. And I say it's semi-real because the "hippopotomonstro" part really doesn't add any meaning whatsoever; "sesquipedalianism" means the same thing.  :teddyr:

Never ask an English teacher for a word of the day.

Tally-ho!  Usually used when backing out of the driveway with the whole family in the car.  It makes the kids groan, so I keep doing it.

"Rape"

A little off topic, but I was thinking of seeing this film. While I am familiar with the series of books upon which the film is supposedly based, I have yet to read any of them. I also know that they did an interview with the screenwriter who wrote the screenplay for the film, and one of the troubles he said he had writing the screenplay from the books was that the books were written for an young audience, even younger than the audience for Harry Potter. But if the word "rape" is used as a description of how the film turned out, maybe I save my money and forget about seeing the film.

Post by: Allhallowsday on November 18, 2011, 11:57:28 AM
Onomatopoeia has got to be the hardest word in the English language to spell.  Maybe it's hard to pronounce too (that is, if you can see how it's spelled).
Words like "cuckoo" or "boom" are imitative and therefore are onomatopoeic.
