Any one remeber back in the good ol days of tnt and usa when there was a whole day of great and interesting movies all set up in a interesting format. The presidents day and memorial day movie marathons were always some of my favorites. They used to have guests hosts talking about the movies providing interesting commentary in between commercials. God I miss those days, now days all we get are lame week movie marathons with one or two classics intermixed with three or four crap tv originals or terrible new movies.There no more guests hosts, no more Joe Bob Briggs, no more Monstervision. I suppose it was the advent of the dvd that killed this great tv pass time for me. Damn technology.

I remember when they had "theme weeks" on the local channel 56 (a UHF channel, for those of you old enough to remember what that means).  They had an 8:00 p.m. movie Monday through Friday and they'd have themes like "Clint Eastwood Week" (e.g., PLAY MISTY FOR ME, COOGAN'S BLUFF, A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, THE BEGUILED, HANG 'EM HIGH).  There was no commentary or anything . . . just 5 movies with a common theme.  These days, I make my own movie marathons by watching several DVDs in a row on a Saturday (a few of them are usually from the Mill Creek 50 movie packs or "Something Weird" double or triple feature discs).  But I know what you mean . . . TV has lost a lot of its charm and it feels very sterile and impersonal these days.

I used to really enjoy the Sci-Fi Channel weekend movie marathons, but now I've got all the movies I like on DVD and the others, I don't really care to watch.  Last night they had some snakes-on-a-submarine movie, but it starred Luke Perry, who I hate, so I skipped it.  

Seems like they still have a lot of movie marathons on various channels, but I just don't have the time any more.  If it's old, I've probably seen it 5 times, and if it's new, I probably don't want to see it at all.  And the number of commercials these days, as well as their obnoxiousness, makes it impossible to enjoy a movie anyway. 

  They used to show  "Hercules Theater" and "Samurai Theater" type afternoon marathons here years ago and I remember Giant Gorilla Week on ABC on the "Afternoon Movie". Wow, I know I sound old but back then those things were big events, especially if you were a kid. You might wait all week for a good Hercules or Godzilla triple feature. I agree that tv has lost some charm when they did away with these things and it probably is the dvd that contributed to it, although that's not all bad. Now you can see full versions of movies, which you may nto have seen as a kid simply because tv waters down and bleeps out alot of the good stuff.

   I just have my own marathons, although it's still not the same. I bet that has more to do with enjoying these films a a youth rathe than as an adult. I still love alot of the movies I loved as a kid, but now when I'm watching them thoughts about work or family or whatever sometimes sneak into my head. I can't watch a zombie movie without thinking about national health care. I guess as a kid I could watch them with more abandon.
