I know you give examples, but how do you classify the categories (Sorry I know its an annoying question, but we all knew it was coming)?
For example the 1950s film Forbidden Planet on the surface to a modern movie goer would appear to be typical cheesey old sci-fi. But In all actuallity it was a very well written, high budget(for the time) movie. So are we going by our personal definitions or what?

if we are going to be realistic, then a movies are better. based on what do you say that manos is better than the dark knight?

I'll go with B movies.  There's a huge variety of them, I find them very entertaining in general.  Z movies, well, you know it when you see it.  Some are good because of all the unintentional humor, but too many are just student films that somehow managed to wind up on the shelf at Blockbuster with a professionally designed cover.  Fraud I say!  "A" movies just don't interest me.  Not any more at least.  Sure, there's the occasional one that looks good, but generally the plots don't interest me, today's comedy strikes me as repulsive and spectacularly non-funny, and too many of the "actors" are just celebrities who probably couldn't manage a D- in acting class.  I also can't get into movies where I'm constantly thinking "Why is Edward Scissorhands in this thing?"  Oh and lets preach some politics to the ignorant savages as long as we're at it    I think the fact that Hollywood churns out one spam remake after another after another - tells you all you need to know about their level of creativity.

it would then be an A movie

If we were going to be "realistic," we wouldn't be discussing either film at all.  Personally, I've seen both of these movies and I enjoyed watching Manos about a thousand times more than Dark Knight.  Enjoyment is the bottom line for me when deciding which movies are better than others.  I am sure the majority of people prefer Dark Knight, but this is a matter of individual taste, so there is no definitive answer.

My vote goes to Z movies.

A movies (e.g. The Dark Knight)

 Z movies (E.g. Manos)

B Movies, simply because they can have A list sensibilities and talent without the budget or technique. Not to mention they are probably the most universally entertaining, for example, some people are not going to like "The Dark Knight", most people will hate "Manos: the Hands of Fate", but 9 times out of 10 people cannot turn away from "Killer Klowns" (whether they're laughing with it or at it).

I say B-movies because despite having cheesy FX, ridiculous plots and bad actors, they feel that they have much more imagination put into them. Sure, sometimes the storyline
can be beyond stupid, but that's the reason fans love them so much.

I'd much rather watch a movie about a toxic superhero, killer tomatoes, fuzzy/devilish little critters from outer space or werewolves that can only be killed by titanium because those ideas, although absurd, are much more interesting than what Hollywood normally churns out. Plus, they're always fun to show at a party.

Sorry to be a Negative Nancy but the Poll is not working.

As far as the question, I think that "A", "B" and "Z" movies are all good. There are some "B" and "Z" movies that are well written but were plagued with bad budgets and bad actors.  Or they had a bad a bad script but great actors and a great budget and so on.  Also we all have our opinions on what is a good movie.  Example, "300" I thought was a great movie and would consider it an "A" while others would call it a "B".  If had to vote I would say all are good, just some are better than others.

My two cents.

Later,

John

I went with Z only because, hey, it's badmovies.org, is it not? Then, by that criterion alone, wouldn't Z movies be the best? uh, worst? uh, you know what I mean.
