Title: STREAMERS (1983)
Post by: The Burgomaster on February 04, 2010, 09:47:26 AM
I hadn't seen this movie in about 20 years and I was very happy to see the recent DVD release.  Bought a copy and watched it last night.

This movie is based on the award winning play written by David Rabe.  It's about a handful of soldiers awaiting deployment to Vietnam and has a lot of heavy emotional impact.  Overall, the movie is a real downer . . . no joy here . . . just a lot of tension and suffering.

This movie has a lot to say about war, racial issues, homosexuality, illness, and death.  And it doesn't pull any punches.  Some people will find it hard to watch and may even find it to be too depressing to watch the entire movie.

The excellent cast includes Matthew Modine, Michael Wright, Mitchell Lichtenstein, David Allen Grier, and George Dzundza.

The DVD also has pretty good "extras," including interviews with Matthew Modine, George Dzundza, and Bruce Davison (who isn't in the movie, but was in the stage production).

Directed by Robert Altman.  Highly recommended.
