Title: Thoughts on the Oscars?
Post by: Trevor on March 08, 2010, 05:44:08 AM
I like it when history is made ~ well done, Kathryn Bigelow!

My boy Jeremy Renner didn't win but it was about time that The Dude won an Oscar, well done, Jeff Bridges. No-one peed on your rug last night, that's for sure.  :teddyr:

Congratulations to Sandra Bullock, Monique and Christoph Waltz as well.

Bit sad that Invictus and District 9 didn't get anything.  :bluesad:

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin's Paranormal Activity spoof was hilarious. The Horror montage sucked, the rest was pretty bland. Congrats to the winners though.

I've never really gotten the Oscars or the grammys.  there is no "best" movie.  the best movie is whichever movie any individual liked the most.

I don't watch the Oscars. I don't have a problem with them, I just don't have any interest.

I agree with you Lester1/2jr.  However, I do like to find out who won because I try to predict the winners for fun.

By the way, I have seen none of the movies nominated in any category this year.
.
Actually, the only movie I have seen that was from 2009/2010 is Legion.

But I am still glad that my best picture winner prediction came true.

I just guessed The Hurt Locker because it seemed a likely choice.

I'd forgotten that they were on last night.  I happened to catch the very end when the Hurt Locker folks were accepting their awards.  Although I feel like too much importance is placed on the awards, I do like that the Oscars can bring attention to some great films,  but it's cool to see that Jeff Bridges won, and I never knew that a female director'd never won until now!

You know what I think is nice?  These forums don't explode with topics or discussions on the Academy Awards.  You go over to a site like Rotten Tomatoes and there are over 600 comments regarding the winners list!  Of course the traffic on here's a bit lower, but still...

THE HURT LOCKER is an excellent movie.  I didn't see it in the theater, but I bought the DVD and watched it twice in the same week.  Bigelow deserved the award.

Glad to see Jeff Bridges win.  I always liked him as an actor.

Not sure about Sandra Bullock.  I haven't seen THE BLIND SIDE yet, but it's hard for me to imagine Sandra Bullock being good enough to win an Oscar.

I'm SOOOOOO glad AVATAR didn't dominate the Oscars.  I enjoyed the movie, but I'm getting sick of hearing about it.

I recognize the name Sandra Bullock, but that's about it.  I'm afraid I can't care too much about movies I've never seen and people I've never heard of.  Don't they have one of these popularity contests about every month anyway?

Jeff Bridges was in the '76 KING KONG.His brudder was in VILLAGE of the GIANTS.His Dad was in SPARTACUS and SEAHUNT tv show.
Sandra Bullock....hmmmah! She was in SPEED with that guy from BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE. He was in BRAM STOCKERS DRACULA too. He was even more wooden than David Manners. More wooden than David Manners. :buggedout:
AVATAR is a 3-D cartoon. It was nominated for an Acadamy award. And people think we're weird. Sigh.  :bluesad: That's the pot calling the kettle black.

MODIFY:
Sorrry Trevor. I don't mean you any disrespect whatsoever. Your a good man-with a job I only wish I had half the talent to aspire to. And a heart as big as all outdoors.

I don't mean to disrespect anybody who enjoys the Oscars. But I am discouraged that Hollywood chooses to honor mediocrity, instead of encouraging originality. That a big budget 3-D cartoon even came close-beyond the f/x department,is sad. I love bad films...but I wouldn't dream of nominating ROBOT MONSTER for an Acadamy Award.

Is that a trend I see? The Academy giving the Oscar to the "best" film and not the "biggest" film, which is normally does. A welcome trend, if it is true. I wonder if the trend will continue next year. But, I'm not holding my breath.
