don't watch this all the way to the end if you don't want to know who wins

This is the type of movie that gets a Wow with no exclamation mark.  I mean, first and foremost it is extremely impressive.  I watch a ton of low budget, indy movies and love them but it is really a pleasure to see such assured direction and production.  Hong Kong's signature unflinching violence still hasn't lost it's effectiveness and while these actors (Sammo Hung, Simon Yam, Donnie Yen) have played these roles, what, a hundred times or more? they aren't phoning anything in yet.  This is pretty much the perfect movie to see on a Saturday Night: dark, fancy and extremely well made and acted.

So why no exclamation mark? I don't know but for some reason I had to pause it a number of times.  I think it had to do with the story:  a cop is at war with a gangster.  I guess I've just seen that so many times that I wasn't wrapped up in the movie enough to stay with it for long periods of time. Other than that, I can't say enough great things about it.  There aren't that many fight scenes but the ones they have are not surprisingly state of the art.  they appear to be attempting to work MMA type moves, I saw a number of them, in.  So, in Hong Kong can you beat the living hell out of someone and walk away and if someone comes along and KILLS that person under your command you are innocent?

It's not just another HK gangster action movie but then again it is.  Jing Wu is ILL.
