                                       I've never actually seen "The Wire" but from what I understand it's kind of like this movie: very politically correct but also good. It's completely one sided.  The main character Charles Horman, the guy who goes missing, is painted as some harmless clueless liberal and yet when they show him on tape expresing his beliefs they are completely horrifying "if you have two chickens the state takes on chicken and gives it to the guy with no chickens and you get to keep one chicken"  that's the blueprint for a totalitarian state far worse than anything Pinochet, the villain here, could ever dream up. Also, everytime a random gun shot goes off everyone in the cast reacts as if it was their grandmother. I don't doubt it was horrific there but it was a coup. I think you would naturally have a dark sort of humor develop after a while or at least an expectation that things are going to be bad. Politics aside though this was as good a movie as I've seen in a while.

                    It's called "Missing" and that's what it's about.  Every moment of the film is consumed with the guys wife beth (Sissy Spacek) and his right winger dad (Jack Lemmon) trying to locate the missing spoiled liberal son. Mr Horman's conflict with his principles and what our government was doing more or less in the name of those principles is a source of torment for him. "We're down here trying to protect American interests" says the beaurocrat. "They aren't MY interests" says the conservative confronted with reality. There is a ton of dialogue but it's always going in the direction of the plot so it works. There is more depth in this movie than in 2 or 3 regular movies. 2 hours go by smoothly and easily.  

        I really don't know anything about Chile other than their economy is better than most of their neighbor's and they are prone to gigantic earthquakes. I'm glad I could be thoroughly educated on one (and only one) side of this moment in their history in such an entertaining fashion. 5/5
