Do we need another one ?

I don't know. It looks kind of interesting. Ring 2 sucked, but if they intend to break from that storyline, it's the first thing they've done right. As strictly a teen fright film, with no aspirations to be anything more, the 3D offers some cool possibilities, what with the kid's MO involving a creepy crawl out of the TV. I'd like to see it.

Of course, I really preferred the Japanese Ringu series to the Americanized storyline, but that seems to be the case with most redone foreign horror. I liked The Ring, but Ringu was a smarter picture with a more Lovecraftian feel to it, and it managed to have one good and one OK sequel. But going into Ring 3 without any unrealistic expectations, it might be fun.

Even as a man who gave "The Ultimate Mission" a watch, a movie financed by the Korean government and cast with Italian porn actors, I disrespectfully refuse to watch this, ever. The only thing I remember about the first one was that lead chick in her pantys, that was a sweet moment. Saw part two once, was tolled it was quite good. It wasn't , big letdown, just went on and on and sucked. Oh and 3D huh? f**k 3D, it makes my head hurt.


Man, lot of hate in the air tonight. That had to be said. It's not that I dislike remakes it's just poor to me that you have to re-imagine stuff that was already done, often to perfection. I do enjoy the occasionally remake like the Dawn one but as Romero said the movie is more like a video game than a film. That's why I like Trash like Dead Men Walking with Jeffrey Combs it's completely silly and entertaining while remakes are following a concept like "make the lead female, make the 4 characters into a group of people and have the zombies run" pretty s**tty ideas by the way, all of them, well maybe the first one wasn't that bad but a blond? really?  :teddyr:. When you put the remake of a already existing movie in front of me and give me the choice I rather watch something else, C.C. and Company for example, had this for a while never watched it. Hmmm, where's that "shut down button".........

They had three Japanese ones (not conting Rasen/Spiral).  I think this one is supposed to be a remake of Ringu 0: Birthday, which was a prequel.  So, basically it's a sequel that's a remake of a movie that's adapted from a novel...  :lookingup:  Not defending this movie.  I'll proably just watch Ringu 0 and probably read Birthday instead.

I saw the first one and enjoyed it.  I thought the TV scene was on of the creepiest things I'd ever seen.   However, I hate it when a film has no closure.  In part one's case, that is what bothered me the most.

Part 2 was just a ho hum sequel that I can't recall much of, well minus the silly scene with the deer.

As for part 3, I'm probably past the whole long black hair and white gown thing freaking me out.  I don't really care.

I didn't mind the way the first one ended. The curse is still out there, but they've basically sent it on its way. It was a huge mistake to have it follow the same people and start behaving in a totally different way. They established in the first movie that the curse behaves a certain way, and then the sequel just went ahead and threw that out the window.

What I liked about Ringu is that there was consistency in the sequels, with the second simply delving deeper into the story. Didn't care as much for the third one, but it wasn't bad. One of the things they did right was that the curse had no real intelligence. It was sort of a psychic residue as opposed to a conscious ghost. This leftover anger goes around attacking anyone who arouses it by watching the tape. There's no personal malice involved. It doesn't suddenly decide to follow somebody, or possess bodies or some other tired cliche. I suppose somebody decided back when they made the first Ring that American audiences wouldn't appreciate a supernatural force that wasn't actively malevolent, but then they had to go and add plot elements that were stupid when we saw them in other movies, like Jaws 4 and Jason Goes to Hell.

If they want to make a Ring sequel that removes itself from the first two movies, and deals with different people encountering the same curse under different circumstances, that seems reasonable to me. But I'm also inclined to agree that the scariness has largely worn off the first one since it came out, especially with every movie ghost in the intervening years moving in some disturbingly unnatural way. But, like I said, if it doesn't try to be any more than a fun little fright film with a 3D gimmick, I'll probably enjoy it.

These days, sequels are about as interesting as having leftovers for dinner.  The first movie was pretty good, but it depended entirely on a mystery being solved for its appeal.  My curiosity has been fully satisfied on that, so I've got no interest in seeing them turn out another product for the sole purpose of making money. 

I made the mistake of seeing Scary Movie 3 before I saw The Ring.  :wink:
