Title: SOV Horror Post by: voltron on May 07, 2010, 02:29:14 PM Hey guys and gals, I've been perusing Bleeding Skull as of late and they're pretty big fans of SOV flicks. What do you think is the best and/or worst SOV horror movie? I've seen a couple (ie: Blood Cult, The Ripper, Boardinghouse, etc...), but to me, the best (aka worst) would have to be Blood Lake (1987) - a quite awful slasher about a dude who stalks teens armed with a survival knife - can't remember much about the plot really, well it is a slasher, so that's not really important. But I do remember that it was mind bendingly bad. So can anyone think of some really awful examples of SOV films? The more obscure the better.
Title: Re: SOV Horror Post by: Flick James on May 07, 2010, 02:31:56 PM Hmmm. I looked up SOV and don't know what you're talking about. Single Occupancy Vehicle?
What's SOV? I'll probably feel dumn when I get the answer. Title: Re: SOV Horror Post by: claws on May 07, 2010, 03:05:51 PM Shot on Video :)
Here are a few SOV faves of mine from a older thread: http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,118926.msg191833/topicseen.html#msg191833 Title: Re: SOV Horror Post by: retrorussell on May 08, 2010, 11:03:50 PM I remember one really awful (not in a good way) SOV called "Violent Sh*t". German flick where the blood looks like cherry Slurpee.

I think there needs to be a bit of a separation here between modern digital video and older analog video. I mean, Zodiac was SOV, so was Superman Returns. I myself own a digital video camcorder that records 24P and can produce some rather stunning images. So, there isn't a term for it yet, but I have one I just made up: SOAV. Shot On Analog Video (usually meaning recorded on VHS, 8mm tape, Hi8, VHS-C, etc). Even this can be a little misleading, as a BetaCAM is excellent quality, really. But it will do. I haven't seen any of their works, but the Polonia Brothers earlier films sure qualify. Splatter Farm, for example. Also, since Violent Sh** got mentioned, Das Komabrutalle Duelle should also get a mention. The latter is incredibly violent and ridiculous, plus hard to follow. Title: Re: SOV Horror Post by: TheDope on May 09, 2010, 08:28:05 PM I've got an S.O.V. that'll B.L.O.W. your M.I.N.D....
It's BDDFH...uh, I mean, Black Devil Doll From Hell (http://thegreatwhitedope.blogspot.com/2009/09/black-devil-doll-from-hell-1984.html). - TGWD Title: Re: SOV Horror Post by: spongekryst on November 18, 2012, 05:40:55 AM Long ago on basic cable, I watched a weird SOV movie where old civil war soldiers started coming back to life. I do not remember what it was called unfortunately, but I regard it as one of the worse (but still fun) I've seen, simply because the production was obviously a bunch of friends and a camera. Then again even the good ones are like that.
I'd have to say my favorites are Video Violence 1&2, although those aren't all that obscure. Microwave Massacre is another good one to check out. Strange film. Not your average low budget slasher. Watching in an 'altered state of mind' probably helps Bought it on the same day I got this, another shot on video classic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiqSuC8KkNU Title: Re: SOV Horror Post by: Pilgermann on November 18, 2012, 02:39:33 PM Bleeding Skull is one of my favorite websites ever. I tried to like it but I couldn't get into it. HHOH5 certainly has its moments but the cheese was too dull for me. Their reviews are humorous but they aren't smart-a$$ed. You can tell they genuinely love and are knowledgeable about film. Site hasn't been updated in a long time but they've been working a book and the site will get fired up again next year. Their feature articles are great, too, like My Fat Sheriff:
A Study Of Overweight Law Enforcement's Effectiveness & Culpability In The Slasher Film (http://www.bleedingskull.com/features/myfatsheriff.html). HHOH5 certainly has its moments but the cheese was too dull for me. Yeah I got it on the hype of the amazon/imdb reviews, didn't quite live up to expectation but an interesting watch anyway. The scene with the girl in the car was the highlight, rarely seen such a bad combination of acting and script lolTitle: Re: SOV Horror Post by: lester1/2jr on November 19, 2012, 03:40:37 PM I really liked horror house on highway 5
