Title: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Vik on May 16, 2010, 04:37:40 AM I know, I know, It's a remake. But it's an exception, this one is great. Not like most remakes that suck balls.
It's directed by Zack Snyder (from Watchmen and 300) and I think it's the best zombie movie since 2000. It also stars Ving Rhames in it. Definately give it a shot, even though it's a remake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LUzJAsa-gg&feature=fvst Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: indianasmith on May 16, 2010, 12:17:01 PM I agree. In some ways, I think this remake actually trumps the original.

Me too, I really couldn't decide wich one I like best though. But for example the infamous intro of the remake. Oh man. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=875R8kHxzrA&playnext_from=TL&videos=dWFfTlnur-E Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Rev. Powell on May 16, 2010, 08:03:07 PM I agree. In some ways, I think this remake actually trumps the original. I wish I could believe that... I'm guessing you didn't like the original as much as I did. I'd say it's a five star movie, nothing to improve upon. Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Mr. DS on May 16, 2010, 08:26:42 PM I was ok with it, found it a bit more frightning than the first one. However the first one has this wonderful underlying dark humor going for it. That and I have to admit I didn't care for the zombie baby scene. However, not bad...not bad at all.
Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Vik on May 17, 2010, 09:52:52 AM Ultimately the original is still better IMO, just not in every aspect :twirl:
Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Raffine on May 17, 2010, 10:50:01 AM Although I prefer the original, this is the one instance (until I think of another one) when a 'reimagining' of classic horror flick works for me.
Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Rev. Powell on May 17, 2010, 11:12:07 AM I'm really surprised by the praise here. I never even considered watching this because it seemed like just another pointless remake (also, I just assumed it was from Rob Zombie). Maybe I'll actually have to give this a look-see.
Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Doggett on May 17, 2010, 12:58:26 PM It's a great fun, fast, thrill ride !
It's different enough from the original so you don't really have to compare them. They both try to do different things. I liked the baby scene ! It was so freaky !!! But it really is worth a watch. 4/5 Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: indianasmith on May 17, 2010, 06:28:21 PM It is genuinely frightening at times, especially the beginning sequence. Definitely worth your time if you haven't seen it yet.
Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Nathan45 on May 17, 2010, 09:20:27 PM It was a pretty decent movie judged on its own merits, different from the original, so its rather pointless to compare them directly, but definitely worth a look if you like zombie movies. My biggest complaint is that the movie's best sequence is its intro, and never quite reaches that point again. But its a fairly minor complaint, some surprizing deaths, and the humor is well balanced with the grimmer aspects.

I quite liked the Get down with the sickness jazz version sequence too :cheers:Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: zombie no.one on May 17, 2010, 11:19:30 PM I'm not a hardcore zombie fan but I thought this had a great first 10 minutes, but then suddenly descended into typical generic zombie fare. the intro set up something great that I did not think followed.
...just my opinion, although my friend I watched it with basically thought the same. Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: joejoeherron on May 18, 2010, 04:50:22 AM Both movies are good and they have their moments. I prefer the original for the social comentary about consumerism(darn, I'm using big words) and how the country is starting to fall apart.
Of course, I liked the original Day of The Dead the best, but that's just me. Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: dean on May 18, 2010, 11:08:52 AM I quite liked this one too. The stupid things the characters got up to was a good laugh on this one [the sniper game in particular was quite funny!] I still like the original more, but I actually watched the remake before the original [shock HORROR!] Something about bikers causing trouble just made that movie work for me... Still, good horror and a fun sense of humour made the remake shine in my eyes. Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Vik on May 18, 2010, 11:47:03 AM Hehe, I was expecting hate comment because it is a remake.
I thaught Stu was a great character, his sarcasm makes me think of myself and was hilarious. Title: Re: Dawn of the Dead (2004) Post by: Monster Jungle X-Ray on May 21, 2010, 03:12:47 PM I actually really liked this one as a remake, it was different enough to the original to stand on its own. It was certainly more enjoyable than Romero's Land of the Dead which I thought was a little too tongue-in-cheek to fit in nicely with the original 3 movies. I have not seen the more recent Day of the Dead, but I hear lots of bad things about that one. Night Of The Living Dead 3-D, now that was a painful watch. Sid Haig should be ashamed of himself.
