Title: Newly discovered bad movie from the 1970s? GONE WITH THE POPE
Post by: Rev. Powell on June 03, 2010, 06:40:48 PM
I'm mentioning this in my movie update column tomorrow, thought I'd give you guys the scoop first.

Here's an odd story: an ex-con plans to kidnap the Pope in order to extort one dollar from every Catholic in the world.  Now, here's the strange part: this movie was shot in 1975 by a nightclub singer as a vanity project, but never released; the old raw footage has been pieced by Sam Raimi's editor.  Supposedly, it's a previously undiscovered camp classic that's as tasteless as a John Waters flick; either that, or it's one of the best movie hoaxes ever.  It's been playing for a little while but we only heard about it just now.  Showing this week in New York City, with screenings to follow in Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, Austin, and St. Louis.  Gone with the Pope official site (http://www.gonewiththepope.com/).

The trailer is on youtube but it's very NSFW; you can get to it from the official site.

It looks like a pretty damn cool movie. I wonder why it was never released.

I believe the guy died before he could get it completed and released.  The raw footage sat in a garage somewhere for years.

This movie looks very interesting, wit a very odd and special script.
Just let's hope to get a DVD release becouse here in Greece it's impossible to be released or shown ever.
So I guess the only way to watch the movie is the internet... A torrent mybe.  :buggedout:
