Title: Holding a Raffle
Post by: Ash on June 11, 2010, 04:08:46 AM
Have any of you held a raffle before?

I am hosting an Airsoft event on June 26th and 27th and I want to hold a raffle for some really cool prizes.
I hosted one before and I did it by paying for the prize out of my own pocket.  Then I sold tickets at a certain dollar amount for each item.

For example:  If you wanted to get in on the raffle for a set of brand new Cobra MicroTalk two-way radios, each raffle ticket cost you $3.00.   The more tickets you purchased, the better your chances of winning.

In this upcoming raffle at the next Airsoft event I will be offering some very nice and expensive prizes.
A couple of the prizes are valued at over $150.00.
We're expecting 50+ players and most of them will want to get in on at least one or more of the prizes.

I'm not aiming to make any money off the raffle.  All I want is to break even to cover the costs of the prizes.

In your opinion, what's the best way to host a large raffle with expensive prizes?

I'd say Ash if you want to break even, do something like "Buy one ticket for $3.00 or get 2 tickets for $5.00".  People are probably more apt to spend the extra two bucks to get two tickets at a discount rate.

I never have, but I think I remember Trevor holding a raffle on his underpants once.

I had to give the person his money back as my undies attacked him.  :buggedout: :twirl:

For a moment I thought the subject line said "Holding a Rifle."
