Title: Trouble Ahead For Fans Of RE-ANIMATOR!
Post by: metalmonster on June 27, 2010, 03:17:26 PM
I Have Just Recieved Some Distressing News!

They Will Soon Be Making A Television Series Based On RE-ANIMATOR , But It's Going To Be A Teen Drama Aimed At The TWILIGHT Crowd :hatred:

Here Is A Picture Of The Cast
 (http://i47.tinypic.com/2yni9va.jpg)

It Is Supposed To Coincide With The Release Of The Remake Of RE-ANIMATOR
And There Is A Good Chance That The Remake Will Not Involve Either Stuart Gordon Or Jeffrey Combs

This Is Indeed A Bad News Day For RE-ANIMATOR Fans :bluesad:

Do you think maybe we should pray to Cthulhu so he can rise up and devour the producers and actors involved in this atrocity.  :teddyr:

While I don't share the general hatred for remakes that animates many of you, this just seems . . . . wrong!  How do you improve on the perfect B movie?

I cannot help but feel that this is karmic retribution for Stuart Gordon getting voted "Hall of Shame" here on the BadMovies.org "Fame or Shame - Directors" game.

Man, I KNEW when I saw the title of this thread that I should not open it...I'm still reeling from the utter stupidity of this.

And just earlier tonight, I was recommending some Lovecraft readings to a friend for her niece (she loves horror movies but does not like to read...hoping to spark an interest).  Now what's going to happen...she's going to watch this crap, figure out it is "based on Lovecraft" (oh my, I think I threw up a little at that), and what will she think?

"Oh, that Lovecraft guy is just a Twilight rip-off."

Arrrrg.   :hatred:

Effing teenagers and the stupid things they like watching. If there were more mature teens like me, these kinds of atrocities wouldn't exist.

Oh..my...I'm gonna be sick... I just realized that this piece of putrid anal waste is going to have the name "Lovecraft" on it somewhere...
Allright people. Meet me at the big Hollywood sign tomorrow at 1 PM. Bring weapons. Anything that you can find. Golf clubs, baseball bats, sickles, guns, flamethrowers, whatever.
We have some urgent fixing to do.

*slams head on desk*

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

If they want to keep the Twlight crowd amused, just hand them pieces of paper with Please Turn Over written in the corners of both sides. That should keep them busy for a few hours.

Or they could re-make Twilight into a watchable film ?!?!?!  :teddyr:

Why even aim Re-Animator at the Twilight people ?????
Are they gonna remake Wishmaster and aim it at the I Dream of Jeannie crowd  :buggedout:????

You know, I'm beginning to rethink my position that there is no imagination left in Hollywood. I couldn't have imagined Reanimator as a wussy teen drama series, and I still can't imagine how it's going to work or why anybody is going to watch it. My mind is just incapable of putting the ideas of Reanimator and teen drama together as anything but a spoof. Shows how rigid my thinking is.

(there's just a little sarcasm there, in case you missed it)

This site (http://www.chud.com/articles/articles/18382/1/RE-ANIMATOR-FOR-THE-TWEEN-SET/Page1.html) has a plot summary.

West is now going to be the attraction of all the young coeds at Miskatonic U.  Looks like more teen drama with some fx so they can call it horror.

Oh, THIS is going to be good...

Well, we all know what a ladies' man West is. Popular, charming, full of charisma. It's the essence of the whole character.

Oh, I do hope they feature the flying reanimated head of West's wise and kindly mentor, Dr. Hill, as comic relief. That would be so much fun.

(OK, that's a lot of sarcasm, even for me)

I hate teenagers. :hatred:

First they ruin Superman with a stupid teen piece of s**t called Smallville. Then they ruin great dance films like Dirty Dancing by changing the genre into stupid teen dance movies. Also, we shouldn't forget about the dreaded High School Musical movies :bluesad:

Now after making teens think vampires are nice emotional creatures thanks to Twilight, Hollywood wants to introduce zombies into the every-growing, PG-rated tweenie database.

Now I know I won't see the scene with a living head licking a naked chick in a remake of Re-Animator.  :bluesad:

Now, I'm not all that familiar with the particular story that Re-Animator is based on, but even I know that Lovecraft loved his gory images, perversions of nature and characters going insane. Somehow, that just doesn't scream "PG-rated teen drama."

As far as modern Lovecraft-inspired works go, I'm going to stick with Eternal Darkness. Sure, it wasn't based on any Lovecraft story, but damn did it get the atmosphere and general plot right. Especially since the game isn't content to just screw with your characters' heads.

Did Lovecraft love gory images?  Hmmm.  I cannot recall reading any actual gore in his body of work.  I would describe his style as more of a slow building, subtle mind-freak.

Perversions of nature?  Characters going Insane?  Check.  He did have those.

As I think about this TV project, I realize that I don't really care if they want to re-imagine the RE-ANIMATOR concept into a TWILIGHT-esque show to appeal to teens.  I'm fine with that.

What bothers me is the use of the West character (as described) and ANY association with Lovecraft.  This teen drama will NOT be Lovecraft and it is an insult to his genius to create a generation of 'fans' who think it is.

So, I think it is okay to take the basic premise of the story and work it into whatever they want to do...it's their project.

But please, can we just have West left alone?  PRETTY PLEASE with reagent on top?

I agree that Lovecraft should not be associated with the Twilight brand of wuss horror. But if there is any bright side to it, some of these kids might discover quality horror literature as a result.

Or it could start a trend that will finish up with Cthulhu as a sparkly, sensitive, troubled soul, madly in love with an angst-ridden teen girl, even though the other Great Old Ones (also sparkly and effeminate) frown on their relationship.

Seriously, Ulthar and everybody, I had 3 or 4 years without TV (I could watch videos though, and did) so I can relate to... was it your daughter who said "TV is boring..."?     It's true!!!

I do watch a few of those horrible Bravo reality shows like "Top Chef" and "Housewives" ( :hatred: :bluesad:) TCM, IFC... Food Network, Lidia Bastianich, any chef except a laundry list of those on Food Network... that's it.

You may be on to something, I've come up with some titles:

The Booty Call of Cthulhu
The Totally Secret Diary of Randolph Carter
The Boy Boom that Came to Sarnath
The Jamz of Erich Zann (For the life of me I have no idea what horrible slang a teen girl would use for music.)

There's also a riff on Pickman's Model that is eluding me.

I Can't Believe They Want The HERBERT WEST Charcter To Be A "Ladies man" , Because In Both The Movie AND The Original Story Herbert west Hated People And Especially Women Because They Distract Him From His Work

And He Was A University Student In His Late 20'S Early 30'S And Not A Highschool Teenager

They Seem To Change It All So They Can Cash In On The Whole Teen Drama/sissy horror genre

.....Maybe Next They'll Try

Maybe that's the REAL horror...

I sense the Lons, Boris, Riccou and Bela spinning in their graves.  Decades of dedication to a visual art form with roots in centuries of classic literature shotgun blasted to bits by one hack romance author.

We need somebody to mount a counter-attack. See how the Twilight crowd would enjoy finding teen romance novels populated with deformed psychos, mutant monsters, eldritch beings, and middle-aged heroes who are too busy f**king and killing to bother with relationships. (That started as a joke, but hell, I'd buy a book like that in a second.)

Then, after the opening salvo, Don Coscarelli, Dario Argento, John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper remake the Twilight series, with a cast including Sid Haig, Angus Scrimm, Bruce Campbell, Jeffrey Coombs, Robert Englund, Keith David, Cassandra Peterson, Pam Grier, Danny Trejo, a CGI Vincent Price and assorted eye candy with enormous knockers that they flash frequently.

Again, being facetious, but I'd be buying a ticket each time one of those Twilight movies opened.

Meh.

Lovecraft himself had nothing but contempt for "Herbert West - Reanimator."  He wrote it quickly, strictly for the money, and to amuse himself while doing so made it a cheesy spoof of Frankenstein.

I dunno, I just don't have the energy to hate anything any more.  The most I can do is shrug and say "the show won't stop the film from being brilliant."

This is pure blasphemy!  When a nearby movie shop closed down the only movie my dad bought from the entire place (liquidation sale).  He gave it to me (I was maybe 15-16 yrs old or so) and said "watch this, but not when mom's around".  My dad and I did alot of bonding over horror movies, I know sounds weird but it works for us.  This is the movie that taught me such important lessons as that just because your head has been chopped off doesn't mean you can't score with a coed :bouncegiggle: .  The beauty of the re-animator movies is their near XXX rating and trying to translate this to TV would dilute it to nothingness (I bet they won't even have any nudity or hardcore gore :hatred:)

I agree on the twilight fans.  I heard on the news that apparently the kids these days are biting eachother.  They dragged out some health experts to discuss how this could spread tetanus/infections etc.  Bunch of dumbass teen girls were being interviewed showing off their bite wounds to the camera and talking about how awesome it was who knows maybe after this the teenagers will all be into being brought back from the dead.  :buggedout:  Geesh, I'm not even 30 yet and I'm already complaining about the kids these days.

Ugghhh, lovecraft has to be spinning in his grave, I need a drink  :drink:
