Title: DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS (2010)
Post by: The Burgomaster on August 01, 2010, 05:34:36 PM
I saw it today and enjoyed it.  It won't go down in history as a comedy classic, but it's definitely better than the average recent comedy.  Although, the title is somewhat misleading . . . the dinner takes place near the end of the movie and it only lasts for about 15 or 20 minutes.  You won't lose anything by waiting until this movie comes to cable or DVD.  There's nothing in it that demands a big-screen viewing.  But you should get a few laughs out of it.

Glad to hear it. I'm thinking of catching it at a matinee.

I just finished watching this movie.  I really enjoyed it.  I don't usually like Steve Carell but he did a good job of playing a schmuck.  It's not as funny as, say, Trading Places, but it was enjoyable and I laughed quite often throughout the movie.

I kept expecting the dinner to be the biggest part of the story but it only took up about 15 mins towards the end.  Considering the story was quite solid before that I didn't mind the dinner being such a small part.  Paul Rudd plays the defeated put-upon guy very well and was a great foil to Carell's craziness.  The other characters that popped in and out of the story were well done (eg psychotic Darla) and not at all unbelieveable.  In fact, Darla eerily reminded me of my own psycho sister that I don't speak to any more :buggedout:   Well done, Lucy Punch

I would recommend it to others as a pleasant waste of time.  If the DVD price is $12 or
lower I'd buy it, otherwise it's not enough of a drawcard for me to pay any more.

Overall I would give it 3 stars out of 5.

I saw most of it, didn't really finish it, but I remember feeling bummed out by it.  Something about the tone just felt all wrong and it hardly made me laugh.  *shrug*
