Title: The Devil Within Her (1973)
Post by: Umaril The Unfeathered on August 12, 2010, 01:14:21 PM

Also known as Beyond The Door this is one film I cannot watch unless it's in full daylight, and even then it sends chills up my spine.

I also remember seeing many TV spots for it way back as a boy of 9 back in 1973. The most infamous of them is where Juliet Mills (with her sickly mauve face) slowly goes  "whoooooo-aaareee-youuuu" with that sinister voice.  It was on mostly at 10 o' clock during the news break, right as I had to go to bed! Nice timing...

Perhaps the most popular of the Exorcist ripoffs, but one that works on quite a few levels, mostly in atmoshere.  The nighttime possession scenes were very gritty and chilling. Any thoughts?

Actually I remembered that The Devil Within Her is the foreign title it goes under.  I have the Japanese DVD-R that also goes under the same name.

Beyond The Door however, is the American name of the film.   Sorry for that.

The DVD-R I have is in English with Japanese subtitles (and it makes it weird to watch, but kinda cool.) Nevertheless this is one scary movie.

It's not your fault its those annoying movie distribution companies that keep renaming a movies... I didnt know that Beyond the Door was renamed The Devil Within Her... and IMDB gave me something else (because it was also named The Devil Within Her)

Or they could have given you The Devil In Miss Jones which would be waaay off base, but loads more entertaining (no pun intended)

I bought this (with the BEYOND THE DOOR title) when it was released on DVD in the U.S.  It was one of my "when are they gonna release this on DVD?" titles and I'm glad I bought it.  It makes a good double feature with THE HOUSE OF EXORCISM (which I have on a double DVD with LISA AND THE DEVIL, which is the original version of the same movie . . . they just re-edited it, added some EXORCIST rip-off scenes, and called it THE HOUSE OF EXORCISM).

Cool! I have seen House Of Exorcism and it was OK.  However, Beyond The Door has a feeling of pure sinister-ness to it. The opening scenes inside the church, the nighttime possession scenes, and the makeup and voice of Juliet Mills when she's possesed.  There's an air of evil to this film that comes across quite well.

Not to mention that one part..."whoooooo areeeee youuuuuuu"? That gets me everytime. I think that affected a lot of us as kids.

There's a true feeling of evil, and Juliet Mills' makeup adds to that disturbing feeling.
