Title: Shout! Factory's new "Starcrash" DVD
Post by: Andrew on September 23, 2010, 07:49:12 PM
Most of the regulars know that I love, love, love, love Starcrash:

http://www.badmovies.org/movies/starcrash/

I bought the new DVD (and will buy the Blu-ray too, just because).  That makes the fifth or sixth DVD of the film that I have owned.  The new DVD is my dream come true.  It is a thing of beauty.  I had never imagined that I would ever see such a clean print of "Starcrash."   It's heads and tails above any of the other DVD versions I have owned.  Oh, and the audio quality is also just as big of an improvement.

If you've been waiting to see "Starcrash" put it on your Netflix list or pick up the new DVD or Blu-ray.  Bad has never looked this good.

I've always regretted not catching STARCRASH when it played at The Martin Theater back When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth.

This sounds like the next best thing. Thanks for the heads up.

I did see NIGHT OF THE LEPUS and INFRAMAN at The Martin, but that' another story...

Does the cleanliness gloss over the cheese factor visually, or enhance it?

The professional treatment really does make the cheesiness stand out.

I bought this on DVD-R from Cinema de Bizarre a few months ago.  The quality is very good, but I bet the new DVD is an upgrade.  Hmmmm . . . should I double dip?

I saw Starcrash in the movie theatre when it came out. It was actually on a double feature with the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I was but a young lad of about 10 or 11 years and too young to appreciate how badass that was, but I was did enjoy both films.

Oh wow I thought I was the only one who has taken notice that Shout! Factory has been working with more B-Movies like Gamera and Galaxy of Terror.

"StarCrash" was the reason I discovered this site, and therefore this forum!  :teddyr:

I saw it on TV once circa 1984 or '85 and thought it was hysterically awesome. 20+ years went by, I never saw it again, but the film haunted my dreams. Occasionally I'd troll YouTube and look at the trailer or Google the name to read about it on film sites (like this one) but DVD copies were hard to come by. Then lo and behold, the fine folks at Shout Factory came to my rescue.

Yes, it's a terrible movie. But it's so AWESOMELY terrible that I can't help but love it. I am not usually prone to watching all the bonus features/special stuff on DVDs but the Starcrash disc was so packed with neat stuff that I geeked out on every bit of it. Then I loaned it to a twenty-something coworker who's developing an interest in vintage bad cinema, and HE loved it too.

If they ever remake this movie (God forbid, I know, but just allow me this one moment of fantasy) I think Rose McGowan would make an excellent Stella Star.

I love "Starcrash." It's a fun movie. I've got it and a few of the Roger Corman reissues like "Forbidden World." I'd get them all if they were a little bit cheaper.

I loaned my brother my "StarCrash" DVD last week. His tastes in film tend to be a bit, shall we say, "higher-quality" than mine (i.e. he doesn't have much patience for bizarre low budget stuff) but today he texted me to say "I watched StarCrash last night... it was awful... so awful that I'm probably gonna watch it again!" Hahahaha
