Post by: venomx on October 30, 2010, 01:29:59 PM
I'm looking forward to this, anyone else? Release Date: Nov 12 2010. Trailers look awesome.

I'm thinking Independence Day on steroids with a better story and better effects. We'll see.

I'm looking forward to it, but I have a deep fear that it will end up being a lot like INDEPENDENCE DAY.

Yeah the end of that one trailer is pretty creepy with 1000's of people screaming and being pulled into the light.

Damn, can you imagine if something like this would really happen. I think Stephen Hawking makes a good point.

I'm not going to see it unless the human race gets completely borked.  I'm just plain tired of highly superior aliens being defeated by us insects.

I kinda agree... I dont think in real life some drunk would fly his jet into a core of a city size ship to save us.

Independence Day (1996)

We would be in so much deep crap if they did come to visit. "game over man! GAME OVER!"

midnight black is a custom color, so probably no, but midnight blue isn't! :teddyr:

The GTR is considered Japan's Godzilla of Super Cars, the LFA is Gamera (GTR came out first)

Made by the brothers Strause.  You may know them as the guys who brought us Aliens VS Predator: Requiem.  Yeah.

Still, they basically made this outside the studio system (the Strauses hate the studios).  And it's an event picture.  For that reason, I kind of want to support them.

I don't think the movie looks that good though, personally.

Yeah, that definitely knocked my expectations down a notch or three.  I dunno, the trailer looks fun, like a B movie with an A movie special effects budget.  Trouble is, all 3 Hollywood movies that looked interesting to me in the last 5 years have turned out to be massive disappointments.  Oh well, might be worth a watch when it shows up on Netflix streaming eventually  :teddyr:

I never seen Aliens vs Predator: Requiem. The trailers looked really lame so I skipped it.

Edit.

So the movie is like the War Of The Worlds remake and Independence Day but with the guy from SCRUBS?

I like the look of it.  The directors have proven that they can do some nice effects shots, especially the long ones of people getting sucked up into the sky that seems to be on everyone's lips.  The bits on the Predator planet in AVPR were cool too.

So I hope they do well.  I can't help but shake the feeling that a lot of the film will be people hiding in buildings talking about what they are going to do, instead of balls out crazy action and constant special effects, which I want.

Looks like the distributor didn't allow any advance screenings for critics, which is usually a sign they know they have a giant bomb on their hands.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who noticed the similarities between the movie and the War of the Worlds.

It was actually kinda fun.  Had a terrible plot but the effects were good.  It also gets the award for wackiest ending of 2010 so far.

Yes, much of the 'drama' comes from three or four characters holed up in the apartment (with the shades drawn, no less) wondering "Should we go out there?" "I dunno." Should we stay in here?" "I dunno...". The plot is sort of a Mobius Strip: in the apartment - by the pool-on the roof-in the apartment - in the parking garage - woops - back in the parking garage - by the pool - back in the apartment - back on the roof - etc.

The aliens are spiffy and Eric Balfour juts his chin out convincingly. Best part has a giant alien going ape-s**t on a car.

I did learn that human brains and spinal cords come out neatly with just a little effort. They also come in day-glo colors!

The ending was goofy - but I think I missed some of it since it seemed to continue into the end credits and I had to go pee real bad.

Oh Raffine, you missed the best part!  The end credits had some hilarious pictures which continued the plot right at the end.  I won't say what it was for people who haven't seen it, but it was a slightly illogical continuation of where the film ended.

I didnt see the movie yet, maybe this friday... on that note, every person who did it tells me you're going to get so mad at the end lol. "It's a very lame movie"... Now I kinda want to see it, just to see this "odd ending".

I always get this hyped to see a new movie and sometimes I feel cheated, we'll see.

Now, that's just obnoxious!

Hey, Brothers Strauses! I shouldn't have to sit and watch your stupid movie after you've told me who the clapper loader was to see the frickin' ending.

I think I misspoke, the pictures accompany the start of the end credits, before the roll started; there was no way I was waiting for the end.  My friends and I were in a silly mood so the pictures were a hilarious addition to the end of the movie.  It didn't really add anything, but was funny all the same.

*****Spoiler Alert*****

It basically involved pictures of the 'good alien' throwing punches at other Aliens on the mothership, while he defends his girlfriend.  It was very silly, but made me laugh.

The Hollywood Reporter calls it "a spasmodic and incoherent shambles". After I find out what the words spasmodic, incoherent and shambles mean, I most definitely want to see it.  :teddyr:

Yeah, I did see a couple of those before nature called. Sounds like I didn't miss much after all.
Whatta relief!  :teddyr:

I've read three different reviews of the movie and all three have given the movie thumbs down. The only upside appears to the great special effects. See the write-up at Television Without Pity.

I'm so happy to see the X47B Navy attack drone making a movie appearance!!! I loved it's hope/attack music score.

I found it! (score)

All in all I enjoyed the movie it was fun. Somethings about it really confused me though. Yeah, the ending was STRANGE.

*****Spoiler Alert*****

I loved the X47B's nuke... hell yeah! Hey at least we tried to fry'em. (it never works on Motherships)

Thats how it would be though, we get our @$$ kicked good. Hollywood hits the nail hard to show we would lose.

Went to see this with my wife and a friend tonight.
Visually stunning, great character development, impressive death scenes as the small party of survivors slowly get whittled down, building suspense towards the climax -
but WHAT THE HECK was up with that ending?

SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW

My wife summed this up brilliantly - she said "It's like the Borg meets War of the Worlds meets Independence Day . . . only the aliens win!"

My hubby and I went to see this Sunday afternoon.  It started out ok, held our attention for awhile,  then started going downhill.  Special effects were good - ending utterly stupid.

Indy's wife description summed it up well, and you can add District Nine to the mix.

I hear a sequel's in the works.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, while it was bad but still fun on a very strange level (speaking for myself at least) was not the Strause brothers fault. They had a ton of problems with the studio while filming. This movie however was all theirs, and the problems definitely are all their fault. It was a shame because I really wanted to like this movie. It had terrific special effects) especially with the small budget they had) and a few amazing shots, wrapped into an inane mess. I enjoyed the goofy ending. I don't know if there is any truth to a malicious rumor that's been going around, but there is word that a lot of the visual effects in this movie were actually stolen from another film the Strause brothers company was working on at the time. Take a look at the trailer for Battle: Los Angeles and tell me that you can't see some major similarities.
