Post by: indianasmith on November 01, 2010, 10:43:08 PM
Now is our chance to show those guys in Washington who is boss.

Vote Republican.
Vote Democratic.
Vote Libertarian.
Vote American Communist Party.
Vote "None of the Above"
Write in your name.
Write in Jesus Christ or Great Cthulhu.

But whatever you do, participate in the system!  It is  a precious freedom tha some 3 billion people in the world do not have.

Don't take it for granted!

Haven't seen a candidate I would vote for, so I'm only voting on propositions this time around.

I actually wish that LESS people would vote.

I really hope Ron Paul runs for president next time around. I might actually get excited about the democratic process again. This election has almost made me ashamed of America.

After viewing hundreds of political commercials - every single one of them negative - I'm certainly not inspired to vote for any of these people.  And last night we got yet another call from a political volunteer just as we had sat down to eat dinner

I'll probably vote for the couple of libertarians that are running, like i usually do.  Last election there were 7 people who voted libertarian in our little town.  My vote made a 14% difference  :teddyr:

I'm sorry you feel that way.  I'm proud of the stand my party has taken, and look forward to getting Congress back!

Tentacles FTW!

Come on America, do it!

On a more serious note, voting is essential.  We recently had an election here which resulted in a hung parliament [aw yeah, it was well hung] which basically was a tie.  Because the Greens party is the third biggest in our country, alot of people voted for them and they got their biggest amount of votes ever, and it kind of gave the other two parties a kick up the butt to be better.  Not that they listened much, but the fact that the two major parties noticed even a little has been fantastic so far.

Then again, voting is compulsory here...

Is there even a viable, national, third party you could vote for?  That's what I'd do if I was that dissatisfied with the two major parties: give them notice that you don't want either.  I'm sure the politicians mind more if you're voting for someone else than if you don't vote at all and if enough people feel the same way, it does actually make a bit of a difference.

As a Chicagoan I'm paid to vote early and vote often.

Seriously, we have very few decent candidates for any position here in Illinois. The lack of viable choices leaves me not just discouraged but exhausted. Maybe it's just a function of getting older but it seems that every year there are more and more parasites looking to line their pockets and fewer candidates that are genuinely interested in improving the public good. If I could find someone who was moving in a direction that was healthy for the country/state/city etc. I would vote for them, regardless of their party affiliation.

I'm voting, here in Ohio I'm sick and tired of these dumb "Times Up Ted" ads....wish the Republicans would make more of an effort into their arguments other than WE LOST OUR JOBS, DEY TOOK DER JOBS! or TAXES BAD, WASHINGTON EVIL!

I'm sorry you feel that way.  I'm proud of the stand my party has taken, and look forward to getting Congress back!

I'm not hating on anyone who has loyalty to one of the big two, but you've seen my views before, you know where I stand. I don't trust either of them, and I haven't seen anything from the Republican's that tells me they are any less corrupt than the Dems. They both want power. That's what it's all about. Actually helping constituents and increasing OUR power (goverment of, by, and for the people and all that) takes the back seat on a very long bus. Republicans talk about how they're against big government and for capitalism, yet I would love to see someone actually ask one of them to define free-market capitalism and how it works. I'll almost guarantee you they'll find some way to make it about immigration or any of the other hot-button topics that they're using to make themselves more visible.

NOTHING matters more right now than the economy. We're on the verge of economic collapse, and nobody is talking about it. Or they're mentioning things like "jobs" but that's about as far as they go. Do you really believe that the Republicans are going to stop the bleeding? Do you really believe that their government is going to be smaller or less intrusive than the Dems government? No. The Dems have proven that if you want coercive political power, you have to have big government programs in place. The Republicans have embraced it as well and recognize that the only way they're going to maintain their own power base is through big government. They're both drunk with power. And what's even more disturbing is that these people have very little understanding of how a free-market economy works. Instead, they'll just ask Alan Greenspan what to do, and he'll say let's artificially manipulate fiscal policy and interest rates to keep our false economy going until it completely collapses through massive credit expansion. And why? Because they want their party to look good, as if their party is needed to fix the economy. Their manipulation of the organic mechanisms of the free market, both Dems and Reps, is why the system is broken and our infrastructure is beyond repair. We to the point now of having to break everything down and start again from scratch. I would almost welcome that.

So, ranting aside. No, I don't trust the Republicans. I also do not trust the Democrats. If there is ANYTHING positive that I would actually say about the Dems is that at least their somewhat honest about advocating socialism. The problem with the Republicans is that they want to point the finger at the Dems and call them "socialists," but they don't want to explain why that's bad. They just assume everyone will say, "oh, socialist. Yes that's bad." No. That doesn't cut it. You have to define capitalism in the process, and explain why it is better. But they're not going to do that because they have little idea themselves how to define it because they have lost their way. And they have the nerve to say they are defenders of capitalism. Ask a real capitalist from the Austrian School about how well capitalism functions here and see what they say. Can anyone reasonbly deny that both the the big two have become Keynsian? If you don't know what that is, look it up.

Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread. It's election day. I'm sure I'll quiet down after today.

I voted today and I'm happy :drink: that my vote counted towards the "idoit - Mr. vote on cap and tax" Mark Kirk then towards the "mob money laundering crook" Alexi Giannoulias... Gee got to love my state.

It's funny looking at the Missouri races.  As is fairly common here, the two candidates have extremely similar beliefs and voting records, with only fairly minor differences in stuff like economics.

Apparently being a Libertarian around my way is a crime.  Dunno anyone who supports them around here.  :teddyr:

But, on a side note, I was watching WWE Monday Night Raw last night.  Linda McMahon was running for Senate and they had an angle where Vince McMahon, who's been inactive and "in a coma" from an attack by wrestlers, was awakened by his doctor, played by Freddie Prinze Jr.  Apparently distraught that his wife used $50 Million to run for Senate, while in a coma and with his money, p**sed him off enough to wake up, declare that he hates politics, but if his wife can run for Senate, he can run for President. :buggedout: :bouncegiggle:

I'm interested to know HOW everyone voted today....

No...not "WHO" you voted for, or what party, but by what mechanism.

I voted with a pen on a piece of paper...colored in bubbled like taking a standardized test.  Then, my ballot was put into a machine that at least measured if my ballot was valid (one vote per office kind of thing) and that I guess tallied my vote.

So...what say you?  Electronic voting machine?  Paper ballot?  Other or more specific?

I'm a paper ballot guy;  I don't trust votes that only exist as a mark on a computer screen - just seems like it would be too easy to hack.

Did you have a choice?
