Post by: RCMerchant on December 04, 2010, 04:20:51 AM
I've been out of the loop for a while....did anyone know that Gloria Stuart (The OLD DARK HOUSE HOUSE,the INVISABLE MAN.TITANIC) died?
She was 100 years old! !! She died in September. She was a trooper never quit her craft- always worked till the end, She appeared in films with Charles Laughton,Karloff,Raymond Massey, so many more....and was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in TITANIC!  Horror fans will always rember as the herione of her horror films. God bless her.

R.I.P. Gloria Stuart. My girlfriend is a big Titanic fan and was stunned when I told her I had movies of Stuart from the 1930s and I showed her The Old Dark House and told her about The Invisible Man...one of the few people to have worked with icons of the 30s and the 90s...

Yep, RC, I was very sad when Stuart dies.  :bluesad:

There is at least one person still around from those days, Carla Laemmle. She's the niece of Universal Studios founder Carl Laemmle and played a ballerina in the original THE PHANTHOM OF THE OPERA and she's the young woman in glasses riding in the coach with Dwight Frye at the beginning of DRACULA. She likes to brag about the fact she had the first line of dialogue in the first talking Universal horror movie!

She's 101 and is still doing interviews. I just saw her in the new TCM documentary Moguls and Movie Stars talking about growing up on the Universal lot.
