Title: DONT'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT (2011)
Post by: RCMerchant on December 13, 2010, 07:00:48 AM
They've remade one of my favorite low budget sleaze movies of the 70's. I dunno how I feel about this yet.

I can't imagine they'll be able to capture the genuinely creepy feeling of the original. Call me a pessimist, but I predict yet another useless remake with some bad gore and annoying but pretty characters.

The best thing to come out of the endless stream of remakes is renewed interest in the original films!

Agree!
I like the feel of ultra-low budget films of this period. Unknown actors and a sleazy, scummy ambiance!
FUN TRIVIA TIME!
SF Brownrigg-Though not credited on IMDB-he worked on the classick THE BRAIN THAT WOULDNT DIE!
William McGhee-who played the popcsicle eating Sam,was also in Larry Buchanan's CURSE of the SWAMP CREATURE, The TRAIL OF LEE HARVEY OSWALD ,FREE WHITE and 21, and HIGH YELLOW!

Anybody who worked with Larry Buchanan is  in my book!

I've got the DVD of THE TRIAL OF LEE HARVEY OSWALD on it but I can't make it through it awake. It's pretty much a grainy black and white camera focused on the witness chair as typical Buchanan actors give testimony. There was a big budget two-part TV movie with the same title in the 70s with Lorne Greene and Ben Gazzara - this ain't it!

The disc also has Buchanan's documentary THE OTHER SIDE OF BONNIE AND CLYDE which is actually pretty good, especially considering it's a Buchanan movie. It was made to counteract all the 'lies' in the Hollywood movie with Warren Beaty and Faye Dunaway.

Hmmm, saw this recently in a binge.  The feel of it was interesting but I was disturbed by the fact I think the DVD was cut.  It was one of those dollar dvd versions of it and had weird scene cuts.  It was strange.  It tended to bother me.  Oh well, otherwise it was enjoyable.  Not what I expected, that was for sure.

I am not a fan of DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT - but it's a film that makes a strong impression.  Plus, comparison to any LARRY BUCHANAN movie would make DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT look like GONE WITH THE WIND

Seriously?
Come on...really?

I don't even know how to react to this.
I liked the original, but Hollywood is really that bankrupt on ideas?
