Title: Dante's Inferno (XBox 360)

This probably belongs in the "What Games Are You Playing" thread, but since this game is such a masterpiece of the macabre, and one that really lives up to it's "M" rating, I have to put up a thread about it.  This game is wonderfully twisted, sick, and awesome!  Anyone played it yet?

EA goes out of the way to make their sports games great, and some other games have to suffer for it, but they pulled all the stops out on this one! Follow Dante thru the 9 levels of hell as he fights to save he soul of his beloved Beatrice.  I have never played a game like this before, and maybe none like it after (at least for now until Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim comes along.)  Anyhow if you haven't played Dante's Inferno yet, play it! You won't be disappointed. ***** out of 5.

Oh yes, it is awesome.  It is dark, violent, macabre and just so over the top in its depiction of hell you could almost believe it.  I played on the PS3 though not 360.  It was nice to reread the poem when it was being released.  Except for the obvious uncertainty with religious themes it takes you into a very human story and one we would all seek redemption from in our lives.  It deals with adult subjects (redemption, the search within oneself for strength and our own ability to fight that which we can't fathom or ponder.)  The setting was done gorgeously.  It was over the top from its source material of course, but I don't fault it on that one bit.  I'm sure some that never read the poem at least caught a little interest in it. 

It is definitely addictive.  Have you had a chance to play that little bonus chapter you could download for free the chase the assassin before he reaches Beatrice portion?

The obvious comparison was to God of War, and I found that Dante's Inferno really didn't do anything to reinvent the wheel from the classic God of War formula. That being said, Dante's Inferno had a wicked style all of its own, and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time with it. I'm hoping the future sequel actually brings something new to the table within the gameplay mechanics though.

That being said, Dante's Inferno had a wicked style all of its own, and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time with it. Yeah, few modern button smashers do.  I tend to look more at style and the world it takes place in then the mechanics.  Too much overlap occurs, basically combos and such.  I liked God of War but definitely preferred Dante's Inferno over God of War 3.  I liked the first and the second but it just seems they were over ambitious with the third and didn't come across as good as the first two.

Sorry, Couch, I didn't get to play the "stop the assassin" game prior to actual gameplay. Sounds interesting.

Great points by both of you!  Of special note is Used Meathook's claim of Dante's Inferno and it's originally wicked style. That's what makes it so great!  My wife loves the cut-scenes.

One of the things that chilled me to the bone was the one piece of music they play as you'e running and swinging back and forth on the vines in the lower areas of hell. 
This musical piece had a theremin in it, and possibly some actual vocals and some very sinister string work in the background.   I get shivers listening to it.

EA may have some other things going for them (the Madden series,  the Battlefield games, and the pair of Army Of Two games) but Dante's Inferno is their masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.

At this point they can't make a better or more stylish game, until the sequel comes out and if they follow the same formula in a way that dosen't compromise originality or continuity, all I have to say is, "look out!"  :buggedout:

I understand.  It gives perspective and fills in some story.  Not so much you are missing big points but it rounds things out better.  EA has a good series on their hands.  I hope they continue through the entire Divine Comedy and perhaps beyond.  We can hope.

It does have some other interesting elements.  Story wise I like how certain things in Dante's life come back to him during the game.  It very much continues Dante Alighieri's theme that is very inline with Greek ideas of the afterlife.  How it was in a way personalized to you and that which you did had a karmic result in a way. 

It does have that replay factor also.  I think I've been through it 5 times.  You will enjoy Doggett.   :cheers:

Hey Indy, what's doin'?   :cheers:

You sort of get to burn monsters and people and tear em' in half, but in a unique twist.

You get a very unique system in Dante's Inferno, whereby you can either condemn or absolve a monster or person.  Condemning the monster or person gives you points towards Dark powers, and absolving them allows you to use Divine powers.

And, the amount of martial combos you can use with your weapon is amazing.

You basically fight your way thru the Nine Hells and there are some very suprising things along the way. I don't wanna' ruin it for you, but it's something you'll be glad you played!
