Title: PRIMAL (2009)
Post by: indianasmith on January 29, 2011, 10:20:32 AM
This is a FIRST-RATE Australian Indie horror film.  Six college students take off into a remote area of the mountains to find some rock paintings last described in some letters written by one of the girls' great-uncles 120 years before.   They finally find the mountain in the sketches from the old man's journal and discover that the quickest way to the site is through a tunnel that cuts through the mountain.  One girl is claustrophobic and drives the long way around to meet the team on the other side.  When they get there, they discover bizarre rock art displaying some sort of toothy beast menacing the natives.
That night one of the girls goes skinny dipping and gets covered with leeches.  In a few hours she is running fever, then her teeth start to fall out . . . to make room for razor sharp fangs!  By dawn she has become a dangerous wild beast.  It is apparent that there is something profoundly WRONG with the cave they came through - something that mutates animals and turns humans into murderous, razormouthed beasts!
There isn't a lot of explanation, and not a lot is needed!  The action is unrelenting and the characters, if not exactly sympathetic, are certainly colorful.  The ending includes a tight little homage to THE EVIL DEAD.  In short, this is a refreshingly good little piece of survivalist horror filmed in a beautiful setting.  Don't miss this one!
