Title: Best to watch it...
Post by: HarlotBug3 on February 01, 2011, 02:04:42 PM
I don't have the tech for option 4 yet, but I want the whole world to. There's my bias. Discuss.

DVD - I hardly ever watch TV shows during their original broadcasts.  I saw all the SEINFELD and SOPRANOS episodes when I bought the DVDs.  Now I'm working my way through THE OFFICE.  I enjoy the flexibility of watching as many or as few episodes as I want whenever I want.  I don't need to wait until the following week to see the resolution of a cliffhanger.  And I can watch episodes multiple times.  I've already been through the entire SEINFELD collection twice.

I voted DVD as well for pretty much the same reasons.  Granted, I don't always wait for the dvd's, but I do when I can...

I rarely watch a TV show on its original broadcast.  Usually I watch it on Netflix, hooked up to our TV through a PS3.  But every once in a while on DVD...

I mostly watch TV shows on DVD or stream them with Netflix.   Some stuff I catch in reruns.  I like NCIS and Top Gear but I've never seen either except in reruns.  The idea of watching a particular show at a particular time on a particular night - nope.

I'm curious to gage whether I'm too hopeful when I imagine a time when 'primetime' and neilsen speculative rating etc is irrelevant unless it's a live broadcast.

I usually prefer in syndication.  You can see many episodes at once and you kind of have an idea of what to expect.

It is always best to consume media online rather than via print or broadcast tv because it evens the distribution playing field, but it is also always best to consume that media in a way that can be counted. The people who worked to make the product deserve the advertising money. No one else.

Beyond some old sci fi programs like Star Trek,The Twilight Zone,etc-I havnt really felt the need to own any tv show. Ill see it when it's broadcast or rerun,or I wont see it.

DVD especially since many classic shows are butchered on TV so that more ads can be included. Usually the best and most complete presentation (although not always such as in the case of altered music, when the rights have been lost to the original).

Plus shows are censured on tv, while on DVDs they are uncut and have every bit of violence, offensiveness and sex the producers intended.

DVD. I haven't watched actual TV in 3-4 years (I don't need to, with my DVD wallet being as full as it is).
Though watching them on actual film print's even better. The way they were meant to be seen. I've only experienced such a thing once, and it was quite an enthralling experience to see the films the way they were originally made.
