Title: Who Has Kids, Who Doesn't?
Post by: Mr. DS on April 03, 2011, 10:16:06 AM
Playing off of RC's married or not thread, figure I'd start this one.

I have three kids Ryan 5, Alex (soon to be 2), and Hayley (soon to be 1).  I love my kids although sometimes they really test me.  I was never a kid person per se so I'm amazed I ended up with 3.  All I know, of all things I've had to adjust to in my life becoming a father was the hardest.  I'm not a nurturing person by nature so the crying and whining parts of it drive me nutty.  However, I find kids really can make you laugh.  I'm not one to laugh much out loud but my kids usually have no problem doing that.  They also really can teach you a thing or two.

For those of you with no kids I'll only say this once.  Don't EVER have kids until you are truly ready.  Your whole life changes on all levels. When people tell you to "wrap it" or "get on the pill" do so.

I don't have any kids as far as I know. I may have an illicit love child in Australia (would probably be about 4 now) though, as I had a one night stand with some waitress before she flew home. I don't even think I really want kids anyhow. I'd only have 'em if the person I was with truly wanted 'em, plus I would only agree just so I could give them weird names.

hi
I have three kids,
Catrina is my eldest she is 14 going on 21, Callum is 11 you guys know all about him, Crystal is 6 and let me tell you she is the boss.
People often ask me if it was prearranged that all my children should have the first letter the same in their names, nope it just sort of happened.
I love the sound of children in the house,i could not imagine a quiet house with no arguments and not little battles.
My wife would never have any more children but i could quite happily have 10 or more little rascals running around.

My son Xander (Alexander) is 19 years old.  Even though he's 6'2" and built like a lumberjack, he'll always be my baby.  He's sweet and loving and affecionate and enormous fun and cute as a button and in spite of my best efforts to ruin him, he turned out amazingly well.

Apart from a couple of years of normal teenage angst at 15-16, I've never had any trouble with him.  I only wish that I could have appreciated that more when he was younger.  But being a single parent for most of my life, it seemd like every day was a struggle and a battle to get through the day.

Now he has a wonderful girl (Shari) and she's like the daughter I never had.  She's a wonderful complement to him and I'm so glad he found her at such a young age.  I told him that whatever lessons he has to learn in this life, he's lucky he found love.  I'm 45 now and I'm still looking and have been all my life and that is one of the hardest things to do.

I won't have any more because I'm too old now and I was never a kid person, but the fact that Xander is my boy is the thing I'm proud of most in the world.  I don't feel like I have to achieve anything any more because I did so well with him.

Nope, and I don't see any in the near future even though I'm approaching the same age my Mom had my older sister at. I'd like to get married and have some of my own money put away first. One of us will be a stay-at-home parent for at least the first couple of years, that's for sure.

Gee Indy, way to be a spoilsport...  :teddyr:

No kids for me, but I am approaching the age my dad was when he had me, so I probably better get to practicing.  At the moment the cat my partner and I own will have to do for now, my family calls it the commitment cat.

Two boys, Miles and Declan. My youngest, Declan, just learned to crawl over the weekend and he seems quite happy with the discovery.

No worries, Indy. Even if I weren't happily married, I observe the "half my age plus seven years" rule to dating.

No kids for me.
Pretty much ever. I don't think I'd make a very good dad.
At least I'm smart enough to know it.

But I salute those that are mums and dads!

No kids.  Never wanted any until my late 30s; now, I'm starting to think I may have waited too long...  :bluesad:  I'm a firm believer in wife first, kids second.

Me and kids don't relate well.  I don't think I would be someone who would be good with kids.

No kids, but I've always pictured myself as having kids.

I like kids, and I'm good with them. Mostly because I talk to them like a regular person while figuring out what level they can converse at. Once I figure that out it's easy to get along with them.

(If that sounds a bit cynical, I do the same thing to adults and dogs.)

It helps that I work in a public library where I am surrounded by kids constantly. I've also volunteered as an after-school tutor for poor kids where I had to come up with "learning games" for kids ranging from 5 to 12.

On that note, here's a fun song!

Kids are great fun... You get to buy them GI Joes and watch Godzilla movies with them and take 'em fishing.
Then they morph into teenagers-and become EVIL spawn of Satan.  :bluesad:

Doesn't. Not married. Of course, that doesn't prevent some people from having children. But, whenever a man asks me whether I have kids, I say: "No. Knock on wood." And then knock on a piece of wood. That always gets a laugh.

Not necessarily. I didn't have my first child until I was 40. Now, don't get me wrong, I wish I had the energy I had 20 years ago, but overall it's been great and I'm glad I had them with the right person. Having kids with my first wife would have been bad.

I never really thought about kids until I became an uncle and started hanging out with my nieces and nephews. I realized to my surprise that the little crumb snatchers are actually interesting and kind of fun. Sometimes it's great to see the world through their Noobie point of view. They are genuinely amazed when they see things for the first time, and not jaded and cynical like most adults. Despite the frightening responsibility I think maybe I would like to have some.

I'm an uncle to my sister's six kids (five boys and one girl)! Can't stand any of them......little brats!  :hatred:

The energy factor is one of my concerns---I can't imagine trying to raise a teenager in my late 50s/early 60s.  The other problem is the risk of birth defects goes up as the age of the parents (both ma & pa) goes up.  Of course it's not impossible, but I wish I'd tried earlier...

I don't have any kids... that I know of.  I'm waiting until I'm at least out of university and my fiance is done with massage therapy school.

Thanks!  If she was a boy, she was going to be named Balthazar, and I was going to call him "Bat" for short, and my mom was going to kill me.

I'm almost 37 years old and no kids.
I like kids on a case-by-case basis.  Some are just outright horrible.  Others are totally awesome.

Never really wanted a boy but I'd love to have a daughter to dote upon.  I remember how much trouble I was for my parents when I was a kid and see my friends that have young boys and the hell they go through.  No thanks.  Still, girls can be trouble, too.  A buddy of mine has a daughter that's a total drama queen and she's not yet three years old!  I don't even want to imagine her when she hits her teenage years.

If I ever do have kids, I'll end up being one of those dads who look really old.  Ever have friends with parents who looked like they were in their 60's and you ask them, "You live with your grandma and grandpa?" and they say, "No.  That's my mom & dad!"
