Title: most hated movies
Post by: bob on April 14, 2011, 07:31:49 PM
To me this seemed like a logical topic for a bad movie forum. Feel free to explain why a movie is on your most hated list or just post them. I'll get this started.

Alleged comedies:

Hudson Hawk
Epic Movie
Freddy Got Fingered
Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead
White Chicks
All About Steve
Jennifer’s Body
Click

Poor adaptations:

Super Mario Brothers
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
The Scarlett Letter (1995)

Hideous Horror:

Monster A Go-Go
The Happening
I Know Who Killed Me
Track of the Moon Beast

Sequels:

Saw 3D
Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones
Batman and Robin

Disastrous Drama:

The Lord the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The Lord the Rings: The Two Towers
The Lord the Rings: The Return of the King
Lady in the Water

Musicals:

The Wizard of Oz

The Rest:

Mac and Me
Ready to Rumble

All the Lord of the Rings movies bored me to death. All they are, to me at least, are three very long and boring movies about walking to a volcano. Even the trees walked in those movies.

The Wizard of Oz is on my list of two reasons. For some reason I hate musicals. The other being that I really really hate when an entire movie, or the vast majority of it turns out to be a dream. The more I am into a film before it's revealed to be a dream the more angry I get when it's revealed to be a dream.

Planet Terror, I thought was boring

very disappointed with Argento's 'The Card Player'...

well there's a few, anyway

Eagle Eye was the worst studio released film I have ever seen. I don't mind suspending my disbelief but come on! This movie doesn't just ask that you leave your brain at the door and enjoy the ride, but leave your brain at the door and ignore the rats gnawing at it.

There's a little nod to Hal 9000 with the computer reading lips, ok fine. Then when the computer can no longer see the mouths... It reads the vibrations from a coffee cup!  :drink:

The computer also manages to kill a man by dropping a Radio tower on him.

Such an insultingly stupid movie... the discount theater charged $1 for this movie, and that was too much!

what! Lord of the rings and the Wizard of oz? Opinions be opinions I guess.

My most hated films are most likely

Spiderman 3
Godzilla Final Wars
Any Film by Roland Emmerich

Can't really think of anything else I hate a lot. I dislike a lot of movies, but there isn't much outright hate.

1) Armageddon
2) Natural Born Killers
3) Clerks II
4) National Lampoon's Senior Trip
5) The Waterboy
6) Step Brothers
7) Dogma
8) Boogie Nights
9) Transformers II
10) G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
11) Halloween (2007)

I still haven't been able to finish The Dark Knight either...

Hate is a strong word. It takes a lot for me to actually hate a movie since I'm not easily offended. Let's just say I dislike/didn't care for

Bamboozled
Howard the Duck (I don't think its the holy cult grail of badness at all, but the following this movie has still amazes me)
The Yards
Silent Hill
A Beautiful Mind
Crash (2004)
House of Sand and Fog (Ben Kingsley's big emotional scene actually made me laugh tears)
Unbreakable (I never understood why so many people drool over that one)
The Butterfly Effect (Obviously a "fan boy" favorite. Didn't do much for me)

CLERKS 2 - I have always been a massive Kevin Smith fan. I have even made a trip from the u.k to NJ to visit the quick stop and rst. But after watching this film for the first time I ejected it from my player and snapped it so I had no part in anyone else seeing it. Some of the Randle scenes were funny, but that was it.

Indiana jones and the temple of doom: A movie made by a bondage freak publicly displaying his sexual fascination with women in peril. Yes, I think that's what speilberg is given the number of women in peril/bondage in his films.

Not really surprising. Everybody I know dislikes Temple of Doom or lists it as their least favorite of the series for different reasons.
I had the pleasure of watching Temple of Doom at the theater when I was young. The place was sold out and the audience went absolutely ballistic.
A crowd pleaser back then for sure and now "hated" these days. Go figure.

If anything, Spellberg's fetish is putting little boys in peril. It happens in ET, Doom, AI, Hook, Close Encounters, Minority Report, Jurassic Park. They get their *sses kicked and always get pulled away from their father figure.

Death Tunnel - an entire movie edited together in that rapid-fire MTV fashion.  Few "scenes" are more than five seconds long.  Impossible to endure.

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid - it's like they gave this project to a group of people who absolutely didn't give a damn.  Just about the most generic and predictable piece of garbage I've ever seen in my life.

Quantum of Solace - WTF was this?  A bunch of action scenes edited together so you can't tell what the hell's going on, a laughably stupid plot, and James Bond barely has any dialogue for the first half of the movie?

Some of these will be controversial, so don't be surprised.

Citizen Kane- I hated it because the main character has this superb ego that, to me, stretches far beyond to what I know today.

Monster A Go-go- "Hey, I got an idea, let's use that unfinished movie from 1961 and finish it with a twist ending!" don't do that!

A.I.- Just went for to f'ing long.

Blade Runner- I don't mind the FX, but the story line is....is kinda out dated today. I can't get how it's a neo-noir film.

Xanadu- I had nightmares for 2 straight weeks after watching this film.

White Chicks
Super Mario Brothers
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
The Happening
Batman and Robin

@Bob, that list is WAY understandable... especially Mario Bros the movie LOL.

But The Lord the Rings?! From a quote. King Arthur: "You make me sad. So be it. Come, Patsy."

@Criswell, Spiderman 3 is understandable, Venom gets nerfed down and Tobey crying most of the time.

Hmmm, GODZILLA Final Wars? That had almost every Monster it, not to mention Don Frye. I will say this and I'm a huge fan of Godzilla movies. It would have been a 1000 times better if a new Mecha Godzilla and Jet Jaguar were* in it.
---

Armageddon
Transformers II
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

@Jase, You have read my mind. GIJOE and Transformers could have been the biggest hits ever, but IMO they failed hard.
---

Independence day" I was hoping this would be at least a serious SF movie, and the first half looked good. The rest was just another star wars ripoff.

@Dr. Strangelove, I agree a little on Independence day. It could have been better, but it was a good FX movie for it's time.
---

Xanadu- I had nightmares for 2 straight weeks after watching this film.

@ Toro Loco, hmmm... I don't remember the movie, as I watched it once in the early 80's.

But IMO I think Olivia Newton John has a very beautiful voice.

I got it by mistake. I was looking for Blade one. I just saw "BLADE" on it and assumed it was the first one and "House of Cthon" was a subtitle. I was wrong. This is why you number your sequels. I eventually saw Blade one and liked it. Cthon left bad taste in my mouth.

The over-all feel of Blade was a lot like "Hellboy". I love both of those films.

No. It's only a movie and people are entitled to their opinion. That's what is great about this forum, everyone likes and dislikes a vast variety of stuff and you can say whatever the hell you like. But, just as long as you have a reason, rather than just sounding off and being an argumentative jerk.

LOREN CASS - not only was it pretentious and boring, it used actual suicide footage for no reason
ZEITGEIST: THE MOVIE - conspiracy movies are OK, I guess, but stick to one, not three different ones
THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT
GOOD WILL HUNTING
MOON OF THE WOLF - some people here have posted positive things about this one, I can't understand why.  I don't think I've ever been so bored in my life.
BASIC INSTINCT - pretty bad when a movie shows me Sharon Stone's pubic hair but still gets me to hate it
DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN - the protagonist gets both to torture the antagonist, and forgive him like a good Christian.  Pick one or the other!

Hate?

Hmm ...

I absolutely HATE Terminator 2.  It neutered one of the greatest cinematic villains of all time AND tried to go back and undo the dark ending of the original, which was, quite simply, one of the most elegant and powerful endings of any film I've ever seen.  T2 went hopelessly off the rails from the get go by bringing back Arnold to play the new T800.  Should have cast a different actor.  The T1000 was kind of cool but not believable at all, plus he was incompetent.  John Connor was just a whiny little kid who showed absolutely no potential to grow into a great warrior at all.  The movie was also badly paced, the best parts were near the beginning, just a lot of problems.  Waste of $100 million to make.  It also, it seems to me, started the trend of making s**tty movies that cost a whole lot of money that continues to this day.

So, yes, I HATE Terminator 2.

Batman Begins.  Just an awful, awful, awful movie.  Felt like a bad fan-fiction written and directed by a 13 year old wannabe-badass.  Everything about Batman Begins was bad - almost unspeakably so.  It may be the worst big-budget movie I've ever seen.  Even the Schumacher movies were better.

Oh boy...

Frogs:  I hate this movie.  I hate it so much.  I wrote a review on it.  See that to see my rage.

Jaws IV: The Revenge:  Again, I wrote a review on it, but I think everyone could understand why I would pick this.  The special effects are probably the worst I ever seen with almost any film.  The effects start off funny, but then turn sad, until finally it becomes pathetic and makes you think: How did this franchise get to this point?

But if you want pure rage and anger from me regarding films, look no further then the absolute worst animated film I have ever seen:

The Legend of the Titanic: I hate this movie more than any other film I have ever seen. It has horrible voice acting, lazy animation, an insulting story, and the biggest kick in the crotch, it is extremely offensive for how it treats the history of the Titanic.  I think there are worst films out there, I hate this film the most of all.

Wow. I like FROGS! Look at it as a satire on all them "Revenge of Nature" films....I think the end title animation of the Frog gulping the hand gave that away. I found it fun.

Your loathing of it is amazing,though-were you analy raped as a child while this was on TV or something? (I'm kidding-I KID! Anal rape is not something to be joked about...but-dam! I did it anyway! AH! I guss it takes a twisted idiot like me to like FROGS-which I do.)

I'm sure I'll think of others later, but right now we'll start with these.

Titanic

Vampirella  (A bikini clad vampire from space fights Dracula (from space) who's posing as a rockstar.  How somebody is able to take that idea and make it boring I have no idea.)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that had that guy from Full Metal jacket in it.

Alone in the Dark.  (I OWN this movie and have seen it multiple times.  I don't remember a thing about it, other than it's bad.)

Oh yeah, and let me add Batman Begins and Dark Knight.  Horriblr horrible movies.

THE CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH III

Oh yes, Nukem High 2 and 3 are absolutely terrible. And it's pretty obvious the filmmakers dun goofed real bad and tried to stitch together 2 movies out of one incoherent film. Both are a mess and 90% voice over. Probably the worst In House produced Troma films yet a long with Tales from the Crapper.

The Howling III, was just cheap boring garbage compared to the first two flicks and even the two that followed were better.

Hard Rock Zombies, which I have tried to watch all the way through several times and I just can't. Great title, Baaaaad film. Very dark and plodding.

....And pretty much every film that's out now or due to be released at any point in the near or distant future.

why in the hell does Batman drive around in a friggen tank?

Because, when Chris Nolan and Dave Goyer were sitting around writing the movie, the following conversation took place:

Dude!

What?

Batman could, like, drive a TANK!

AWESOME!  You totally rock!

Ooh!  Ooh!  And the tank could, like, jump 1/4 of a mile and do 0-200mph in 3 seconds!

Ooh!  And it could have STEALTH MODE!

DUDE!  TOTALLY RAD!  BROFIST!

Jase mentioned NATURAL BORN KILLERS, that would be the one for me.  could have been an interesting commentary on America's culture of violence & media exploitation, BUT IT SO WASNT! That movie failed on every level.  I kind of hate Oliver Stone in general, to be honest - everything I've ever seen of his is pompous and heavy-handed, I don't understand how he became so widely regarded

Hey, we are down to the awesome Batpod now.

Frankly, that thing never bothered me.  Most things about comic book films don't bother me.  I'm not that much of a nerd or comic book geek to throw a fit over it like so many other people.  Besides, its upgrade compared to the first ever vechile Batman drove:

Haha, that's like something I'd say. But I'm really not THAT old (I'm 35 years young). For me, CGI has been a bane on movies since the 90s when it started to get a bit out of hand. I just think it's such an artistic cop out, really.

edit: I just finished watching Friday The 13th (2009) and it absolutely BLEW. Michael Bay is a dick. Of the remakes I've seen, this was one of the most pointless pieces of s**t I've encountered so far, well, aside from Black Xmas (HORRID). F13 did have only one redeeming factor: high quality boobage, but even that couldn't save it from it's utter mediocrity. A big

I just don't understand the hate for "Friday the 13th (2009)" doesn't really seem that bad. Plus topless Julianna Guill, damn she's hot! It makes more sense than "Jason Goes to Hell" I hated that one. I also didn't think the remake of "Black Xmas" was all that bad either. I know everybody hated it, because the first one was groundbreaking and inspired "Halloween." But for me "Halloween" was so superior to "Black Christmas," that the remake never bothered me. I think all that back story about Billy just creeped everybody out. I think if they had left all that stuff out it would have been more like the original. I'm partial to the new one because I've seen it more. If I had been a bigger fan of the original, I would probably hate the remake.

Definitely agree with the Lord of The Rings trilogy. I was so bored with those films, I fell asleep through the first 2, and didn't bother with the 3rd. I HATED Clerks II, I didn't like Sin City. Unlike many, Spider-Man 2 was my least liked in the whole span of the 3 newer ones. Super Mario Bros, Street Fighter and MK Annihilation were absolutely atrocious.

But as for my most hated movie though, well let me just say this: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 can burn in hell for eternity.

I think "Clerks 2" was trying too hard to be like the first one, why do it if it's not going to be different.

totally agree with you there. i found the characters in clerks II to be mere parodies of their former selves - especially jay & silent bob. the original was great because of it's low budget charm and it was a hell of a lot more sincere than the second one, which tried way too hard to be "clerks-ish". it was too self referential to me. it's good example of why bigger budgets can ruin a potentially good movie.

Oh I hate to bring the bad news, but Voltron has been CGI.  It was a short lived animated show back in the 90's with Tim Curry called Voltron: The Third Dimension.

when I started this thread back in April I listed the Wizard of Oz and haven't seen it since I was a kid

currently I'm giving Oz another shot because I hated musicals as a kid no matter, what but recently enjoyed the hell out of Singin in the Rain.....

not even 40 minutes in this is annoying the hell out of me and I'm debating ejecting it.

Edit: I ended up ejecting it a little over an hour into it.

Most hated is probably a bit much, but I thought the Brave One was obnoxious because of its moral cowardice.  It tries to portray vigilantism as a bad thing at times, but refuses to go all the way and ends up seeming like they wouldn't go all the way for fear of alienating the audience who wants violence and bad guys to get whats coming to them.  If you're going to make a movie with a statement, MAKE A STATEMENT.

On the flipside of this, Heartbeat Detector (aka the Human Question in French, IIRC) is a rarity: a movie I found offensive.  Few movies truly offend me, but this one managed it.  It directly equates corporate downsizing to Nazi genocide.  Yeah.  And I'm someone who thinks a lot of corporations are run by awful, even evil people, but to compare firing someone to murdering an entire people is like spitting on a mass grave filled with 12 million people.

Bob I think you need to look at the bigger picture when you watch films. You seem to hate a film instantly when it has just one thing you don't like or disagree with. Honestly it seems kinda childish.

Nausicaa is a brilliant work of animation. Sure I have a few problems with the character and a few of the story points, but its an amazing movie.

REALLY!!!

Anything by Roland Emmerich
Space Jam
Avatar- "The story's sh*t, but oooh, it looks so pretty!". There are a lot of 'pretty' films out there that don't suck, and are worth one's time.
Tom & Jerry: The Movie
The Dark Knight-A film that breeds stupidity. Remember the "English Patient" Seinfeld episode? That happened to me with this movie. :P
Forrest Gump- A film that celebrates stupidity
Garbage Pail Kids: The Movie
Tank Girl
Baby Geniuses
Showgirls
Lord of the Rings trilogy

Anyhow, back to me on hated movies, add The Piano to the list.  While I think the movie is very good on a techincal level (sets, costumes, effects, and all that) and the acting isn't half bad, it's the romance and the characters that completely sink this film.  I hate everyone person in the film and that's never happen to me before (I didn't even hate the characters in those animated Titanic films as much as these people).

SPOILERS: The mother bullies her daughter into doing something she clearly doesn't want to do, the daughter sells out her mother to her husband even though she knows he'll react badly, the husband chops off one of the mother's fingers (Worse reaction to a body part getting cut off ever by the way), and the lover the mother is cheating on with pretty much sexually abuses her through blackmail to get her piano back from him.  Also, somehow because of that blackmail and sexual harrassment, the mother falls for him.  What f**ked up romance is this?!  It's a romance film that fails on the romance so bad for me that it completely ruins the entire film.

I really don't get all the hate for the Lord of the Rings movies.

I mean, I understand how people can say, "there's not enough action for me, not my thing," but I don't get how you can move from that to hatred.

There are plenty of quality movies I don't personally connect with that I can still acknowledge are serious, well-made movies.  The only movies I can work up "hate" for are movies that are both badly done and promote a bad message.

I think you and me have a similiar movie philosophy.  Like I mention before with The Piano, I don't like it or connect with it, but see it as a well-made movie.  Though for me to truly hate a movie, I need to see that everything about it is terrible, which is why I have such a vocal opinion and hatred towards the animated Titanic flicks, After Last Season, and similiar works.

Ya know, I guess I'm being silly, but I think if I really wanted to I could demonstrate this to be untrue.  I'd say probably half an hour of Fellowship is action scenes, like 45 minutes of Two Towers, and an hour of Return of the King.  A movie being 20-30% action is actually a higher percentage than an average kung fu film or Arnold Schwarzenegger flick.

They're not my favorite films or anything (I've seen the trilogy twice - once in the theatre, once as the extended DVDs), and I can understand people thinking they're boring (if you don't care about the story at all, you'll probably find it boring especially with 3+ hour running times), but the whole "nothing but walking" bit I can't get on board with.

Still, I did think this was pretty great:

I didn't like any of the chracters. I found Sam, Gollum, the 2 twin hobbins and Froto annoying as all hell. The found the action scenes incredibly dull in all three movies. And has been pointed out all three of them are just walking movies, even the trees walked in those movies, and as a result incredibly boring.  I felt worn out at the end of them, depsite taking breaks. I really feel that an intermission in all 3 of them would have done wonders for them.

I'll agree with you there.  The extended versions (on that note, the extended ROTK I feel is a worse film for it, Two Towers is about the same, and Fellowship is the only one that benefits from it) essentially DO have an intermission since they're spread across two discs on DVD.  When I watched them, I took a break between them.

Classic is not the word I would use to describe the game.

Time for me to add a new one to the list.  I add The Nutcracker: The Untold Story.  I went over this film and its problems in another topic, but to sum up shortly:

It's a movie based on a ballet with no ballet and Nazi rat people riding jetpacks that have musical numbers.  That's all you need right there.

The Wizard of Oz is on my list of two reasons. For some reason I most musicals. The other being that I really really hate when an entire movie, or the vast majority of it turns out to be a . The more I am into a film before it's revealed to be a dream the more angry I get when it's revealed to be a dream.

from the first post in this, but the reasons have changed, I don't hate all msuicals, I love Singin' in the Rain

the dream thing always p**ses me off, it's like being kicked in the nuts
the songs go forever and a  day
also there are some awful puns in there, which i hadn't noticed when I was a kid but did when I rewatched it earlier this year

Lot  of my all time faves here making the hate lists - I worked with Zero Mostel in '75, and while he was not a Mel Brooks fan, he was superb in the '68 version.  I thought the remake was a huge mistake.

I'm also an Oz hater!  Well, I don't know about hate.  I really, really dislike the movie.  Basically, everything about the movie makes me dislike it.  Everything.  There is not one line of dialogue, one note of music, one frame of film that I like about The Wizard of Oz.  I've never managed to make it all the way through the thing.  It baffles me that anyone could possibly like it, yet it's one of the most beloved movies of all time.

I'll take The Wiz over this crap any day.  Return to Oz is a far, far superior film, as well.

Well, now that you mention it, that's something I actually left out of my original post up there.  Oz is so very, very "Hollywood".  It's loud, it's bright, it's slight, it's clean, and it's harmless.  A lot of people like that kind of thing.  Hell, I like that kind of thing on occasion, but not here.  Using the two movies I mentioned above as counterpoints, I prefer the ugly, grimy, gritty, scary urban decay of The Wiz or the dark and dangerous fairy-tale feel of Return to Oz.

I hate pretty much anything that involves Daniel Whitney. Or Dane Cook. Michael Bay annoys me, as well. Natural Born Killers is an interesting case for me, because I hate the hell out of it, but I like it at the same time so I watch it every seven months or so and enjoy it through the loathing. I can't really say why. Probably because I like Juliette Lewis for some reason and I think the soundtrack is kinda cool. It could have been so much more. I mean, you had the Tarantino script, how could you f**k that up? I'm not sure. Even True Romance was better. Oliver Stone's films all seem pretty pretentious, don't they? I have never seen the Lord of the Rings films, but I did try to read the book. I stopped because the books seem to have too much travelling and camping and describing gorgeous scenery, which isn't a bad thing, it's just at age twelve, I wanted Frodo to fight orcs and stuff and not have details about his many breakfasts throughout the day. I read The Hobbit, however. That was fun. I'll probably give The Lord of the Rings another read, though. Back to films I can't stand: Birth of a Nation. I know it's a classic and the first full-length feature film and very influential, but holy hell was it boring. I never even got to the racism that it's known for, because I was sure that part would keep me interested for its duration. I also hated the Tim Burton Batman movie. And the Star Wars prequels. So much. In fact, the Red Letter Media reviews of those films, which are approximately the same length as the films are, are much more entertaining. What's the deal with all the special effects in movies, now? Star Wars from 1977 was way more convincing as far as special effects and plot goes. A horror flick from the 1970's was way scarier than the s**t they have today. The Exorcist and Friday the 13th are infinitely scarier than their modern day counterparts. I also don't care for a lot of John Wayne films, although I don't have anything against him specifically. Most SyFy original movies qualify, usually because of the way too damn poorly done CGI. Also, I hated Battlefield Earth. The camera work alone almost made me barf. Then there's Blood Sucking Freaks, which I guess I don't actually hate it, I just have no desire to watch that horrifyingly tasteless film again.

The reason I like it-is because its happy happy joy joy.
My early childhood was scarred by evil and violence.
Once a year I could go to Oz.
I eventually went to horror films...when I was 7.
But thats a whole nother story...

But Wizard of Oz wasn't all sunshine if I recall correctly, there was some darkness there as is usually the case with most fantasy fare seems to me - you had death and the threat of death throughout and that witch and especially those freaking flying monkeys freaked me out first I saw 'em as a tyke. Bob seems to have trouble with fantasy as a genre I noticed given a lot of his selections. I think I have more trouble mainstream Westerns although I've come to appreciate the B-Westerns somewhat. I also tend to dislike films that seem out and out determined to just offend and shock me at the expense of story and/or characterization, even worse when I saw the potential for something great there within. Also don't tend to care for cookie-cutter glittered and glam crap, like a shiny new present wrapped up with a piece of crud hidden inside.

More than 'hate' is 'dislike'.
Star Wars 2nd and 3rd trilogy. The 2nd probably everyone dislike, but why the 3rd? Just simple: Disney. Actually in the latest years I dislike everything from Disney, from Marvelverse to Pixar. Even all that series from Disney+ or Star+. It's a crap.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original. I watched it for the first time back on the 2000s and I realize that I don't need to watch the other parts. To be honest, when I seen it, at the end when Leatherface is anger swinging the chainsaw, looks like Benicio del Toro throwing a tantrum.

Any other "Texas Chainsaw" films have NOTHING to do with the original, which is a masterpiece.  It is never enjoyable.  Not understanding the ending is not getting the film.

^ So, be it, I don't understand the movie. As I say before, it is not 'hate', it is 'dislike'.

Another one, The Raven (1935). I was thinking that the mix Poe and Lugosi and Karloff could be enjoyable, but to be honest, Bela Lugosi play the same character, Dracula.

Too late.
The part is NOTHING like Dracula. Bela doesn't use the unique hand gestures in the RAVEN.  As Dracula his voice is slower and more cadenced, and his hypnotic eyes are a focus.

In the RAVEN he's maniacal, sometimes laughing at his own  sadistic deeds. Dracula never laughs.

Lugosi could be quite versatile, if given the chance. Check out his almost lovable turn as Ygor in the SON OF FRANKENSTEIN.

During my high school days this movie was all over the place. When I was getting into the horror films of 1960's, 70's and 80's the rest of my school was obsessed over Scream. When I finally got around to watching it, I couldn't believe how over hyped and overrated it was. Scream is a slasher film for those that hate slasher films. If Kevin Williamson and snobbish critics actually did their research many slasher/horror films already had films that parodied or put spins on the formula. Its a film that thinks it is so cleaver and smarter then it thinks it is (April Fools Day, There's Nothing Out There, New Nighmare and others for example). The kills aren't that great, the humor is obnoxious, and reeks of everything I hate about 90's horror films.

I've also never been a huge Wes Craven after Last House on the Left, The Hills have Eyes, and Nightmare on Elm Street were the peak of his career. Everything else was a mess or clearly him being a director for hire. Scream was Craven's sell out moment. Scream also spawned all the knock offs like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Valentine, Urban Legend and the various sequels.

From what I understand, SCREAM was supposed to be a parody of the slasher genre, aimed at its followers, filled with cliches and tropes that only they would recognize and enjoy. Strangely, it caused the opposite effect, and revitalized the genre like never before.

To paraphrase a youtube comment-"Its a movie for people who think liking pop culture is a personality"

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol:2
Liked the first one. HATED the second one. Everyone felt like a parody of the characters they were in the first one. I've described it as a movie that's laughing too hard at its own jokes.

when I started this thread back in April a lot of my opinions have changed from the very first post, so here's a new list of the complete list of my my hated films and each and every one of them managed to get me very angry and/or offended the hell out of me while watching them

Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)

Night of the Hunter (1955)   -- sorry Rev.

I have to admit I was wondering about the hate for Arsenic and Old Lace too. It is my favourite B/W movie.

From what I understand, SCREAM was supposed to be a parody of the slasher genre, aimed at its followers, filled with cliches and tropes that only they would recognize and enjoy. Strangely, it caused the opposite effect, and revitalized the genre like never before.

Like I said, I thank it for getting horror back in the mainstream but the glut of horror films that came out were poor at best. All of them trying to copy Scream or turning legacy franchises into Scream (Halloween H20 for example). Also the parody aspect was used to sell it to the studios as the horror genre becoming less popular with studio elites.

To continue this awesome thread, I'm going to add one that I hate with a passion: A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. If I have to define that movie in a single word, it would be disgusting.

From the main characters, to the camera work, setting, dialog, scenes, and conclusion. Everything simply induces me a gag reaction. And the fact that almost everybody I know holds it as some kind of masterpiece makes it worse.

3. White chicks.
4. 2025 the world enslaved by a virus.
5. The cloverfield paradox.
6. All christian movies that feature the usual angry straw man atheist.
7. The second IJ movie.
8. Ferris bueller meets notzilla.
9. Valley of the wolves.
10. I saw the devil.

That post was over a decade ago. I do not remember why I disliked them so much back then.

I recall not laughing at all at Arsenic and Old Lace.

ARSENIC AND OLD LACE can be tedious.  I still love it.

Re: Arsenic, I read the play, watched it live, and watched the movie, and it was zany, but it was barely memorable.

I've seen Night of the Hunter twice, and it's bewildering, especially the underwater scene. Reminds me of the poem in Melville's Billy Budd.

POLAR EXPRESS (2004)  Hate it.   :hatred:  Like a particularly protracted Christmas dump; sh!t messages.
