Title: How bad is your language?
Post by: Olivia Bauer on April 19, 2011, 01:26:51 PM
For the longest time I've avoided swearing on this site. Now that those words are censored automatically I guess it doesn't matter anymore. In real life I swear uncontrolably. I don't even notice sometimes.

I posted a thread yesterdy about how studies have shown that profanity helps increase pain tolerance.

In any case, as a parent I've been forced to censor myself, but I used to have the same affliction you suffer from. However, in reference to my opening sentence, a sudden injury can still evoke a stream of profanity from me.

Yeah, too much information.  :buggedout:

Over the past five years I've become very foul mouthed, especially at work. I say everything under the sun without the slightest hesitation or consideration for those around me. I don't swear constantly though, I'm not one of these people who can't make it through a single sentence without spouting off.

When I drive it's really something else, but in general no. I have edgy sort of beliefs and am sort of crazy looking so I try to be as vanilla as possible so people don' t run screaming the other direction.

I have a real gutter-trash mouth.  Even at work.  Luckily, I work at a small company and this sort of talk is not uncommon and no one seems to take offense to it.  I swear A LOT when I'm driving . . . I have no patience when I'm behind the wheel.

I work very hard not to swear.  I think there are many more fun ways to express yourself than casually dropping F-bombs around.   The English language is a big verbal playground, why throw poo?
However when I do swear, I swear very big creative and offensively.  Like shock old ladies tyupe of swearing.   Buit thats only in emergencies.

I love vulgar language and partake in it a lot.  Since birth it was my second language.  My latest swear word of choice is "tw@t".

I hardly ever swear unless I hurt myself in some fashion and then the expletives fly...

Depends on if I'm around certain people, or if I'm angry.  If I get hurt, I seem to automatically scream a particular swear phrase.

If you ever wanna see someone string together an array of the foulest language imaginable in such a way that an old lady would up and die in a shock of anger over it, I'm your man.

I'm like an artist.  Only I use expletives as my canvas and playground, instead of clay or paint.

I really have no inclination of 'tact' or if I offend anyone.  It doesn't matter to me.

I might swear for fun when I'm together with people I know, and I might swear when I hurt myself. I say "might" because most times I don't even bother.

At my other forum there was a discussion about females swearing, and pretty much every guy said that a swearing female is a huge turn off. Ain't that interesting?

Sorry not to go off topic but there was some interesting studies speaking about sexual fantasies increasing pain tolerance.  Can't think of them off the top of my head.  It is odd when you surf the web and find the oddest tidbits here and there.

As for swearing, it depends on the company I am around.  I usually try to keep my language clean but fail at times due to either the company not minding or my temper getting the better of me.  I also tend to do it when exceeding annoyed.

I swear a lot.  Motherfu**er is my favorite curse word and I use it quite a bit when I'm behind the wheel of my car.

No ^%$#@& way do I #@$%^& ever use &*^%$#@ bad *(&^%$# language. It is just not ^%$#@! right, you know.

Afrikaans (my second language) is a wonderful language to swear in as it is wonderfully descriptive and makes you laugh when the person you are using it against thinks you're complimenting them.  :teddyr:

It is interesting Claws.  There are still huge gender gaps in everything, including language.  I think it's vulgar when a woman swears, but I believe men should swear, although not the f-bomb every second word. I personally don't swear.  I might say b.a.stard or bl00dy sometimes but that's only if I'm really steamed and that doesn't happen often.

I speak quite formally and eloquently and because I rarely get angry, swearing isn't an issue.  But people who know me always laugh if they hear me swear because it sounds weird.  :teddyr:

I don't normally swear too much, unless I'm in a mood or I'm in physical pain.  Online since I censor my swearing I don't really count it as swearing.  I try to to be creative.  Sometimes "little turds" is more demeaning than a bunch of expletives.

I try not to cuss too much, but I do it plenty, especially when driving.  While on the road (without passengers) I spout out the most horrific combinations of words imaginable, often voiced in unintelligible screaming.  At work I'll sometimes drop the f-bomb and one of my employees will always say, "I've never heard you curse before!"  It's more effective when used sparingly, I guess.

I never cuss around my parents or grandparents, and I only use certain words around my brother.  I try not to curse in public because I hate hearing other people do it.  Even though it doesn't bother me when people I know are using profanity around me, I hate passing by complete strangers who are cursing, it's just stupid and inconsiderate...of course that's just one of the many stupid and inconsiderate things that the general public does that makes me hate them.

Sports, video games and stupid people really bring out the worst in my foul language.  It can get comical when I run out of actual sentences and just say random pottymouth words that don't fit.

I saw a Redd Foxx comedy routine many years ago.  He said, "If you usually don't swear, let me take you out to the parking lot and slam your fingers in my car door.  You'll say "s**t," "f**k," and "n - - - - r."

I love that those two different situations get the same reaction out of you.

Kinda says something about your psyche, don't it?

Not sure what exactly. Just sure I don't wanna know.

Actually, I find that a woman swearing in an English accent is hot. Especially if she's talking dirty.

I curse way too much...I've been told by several people, including my mom.

Sometimes, instead of cursing,  I'll curse in innuendo and alternate phrases, and I love to see the look on peoples' faces when they have no idea WTF I'm saying. That's what really gets them.

...And especially if she happens to be from Bristol.

Anyway, one thing I have adopted is saying a***ole, instead of arsehole, as everyone says in these here parts. It just sounds funnier to everyone I've found, a mancunian saying a***ole ALL THE TIME.  :teddyr:

I try not to swear at all, but I do have a temper and tend to let words fly when I am alone.  For those occasions when I am in public and HAVE to let something out (like when I dropped a cinder block on my toe one time), I learned a great Latin phrase - not sure about the spelling:

"Sugit facientor vomitas!!!!"

Translation:
"This sucks and it makes me want to throw up!!"

I hardly ever swear.  Ithink swearing packs a bigger punch if used sparingly and is best reserved for expressing strong emotions (like when you're scared or horny!).   I do get a little uncomfortable when other people swear around me, but when I've gotten to know someone and have learned that it's just part of their personality, I can take it.  But I really can't stand people that just swear for lack of a more creative or intelligent word.  It seems like some guys swear a lot because they think it makes them look tough, you know the same guys who will start talking about how their fists hurt from punching walls.

It really bugs me when people don't even attempt to control their language around my daughter or my mom. Especially my mom, because then she starts talking dirty and it gets real uncomfortble from there.

Sometimes I'll swear when I'm repeating something funny, like the time one of my neighbors got locked out of the house and he was banging on the door yelling for someone to let him in and his ghetto neice yelled out the window "HA-HAA b*tch! You're locked out!"  hee!

I've noticed alot of people curse when extremely angry or on the verge of striking. And although I do curse quite a bit, when i get to this point, I usually get extremely quiet right before losing control.

I've said it before, it has been proven on MythBusters that profanity increases pain tolerance. Don't argue with MythBusters.

Depends on the situation.  In professional or respectable moods, I use cleaner language.

In looser situations, I curse like a motherf**ker.

Quite a bit. But at the grocery store,or to people I don't know,I'm quite polite. I say "yes ma'm" and "pardon me." But any moment I can explode into "MOTHER f**kING C@CKSUCKING f**kER!"

Me too. I tend to glare at people and shake uncontrolably.
