Now that we've got that out of the way, has anybody here had an encounter with the unexplained?  Did you run into Bigfoot while you were camping?  Did you see strange flying objects in the sky?  Have you ever seen a spooky, specter, or ghost?  Let's here what your story is.

Me, I have seen a ghost once.  At my old job, after the doors shut for the night and all the customers went home, you could sometimes hear things moving around.  If you went into the backroom and closed the door, the light didn't look right shining under the door.  It was like it reached a certain point and just stopped (this is kind of hard to explain and I don't think I'm doing a good job at it.)

One day I was opening.  The store was a small shop in the mall, so it was fairly common for there to only be one employee running the place at any given time.  I lifted the pull down gate, went in and saw somebody standing there.  Just standing.  At first glance, I thought it was my boss.  The person was about the right height and hair color, but then I realized that he wouldn't have just been standing there in the dark.  (I hadn't turned on the lights yet.) 

When I looked again, nobody was there.  I went around the store several times but there was nobody in there, nor was there anyway a person could have gotten out without me noticing. 

The other people that worked there sometimes commented on how they would hear things at night and how the place was haunted, but I don't think they ever saw anything.  My boss of curse just thought we were imagining things. 

I've seen a few things over the skies of El Paso that I couldn't identify.

When living in a very rural area of Tennessee we used to see odd things in the sky all the time, normally at night. I'll never forget the night something huge and black passed over the house; the only sound was a very deep rumbling hum that sounded 'electrical'.

When I used to drink heavily almost every night, I'd wake up in the morning and see ugly women who had been very beautiful the night before.  They mysteriously transformed during the night.  Totally unexplainable.

I sort of believe there is an alternate plain (a limbo if you will), I obviously can't explain it fully but it's all I can say to explain the thing that I saw (or hallucinated). I was living at my dad's house at the time, when I was a teenager and I woke up really early one morning and went downstairs. As I got halfway down (the stairs overlooked the living room) I saw what appeared to be an old woman coming out of the mirror on the wall. It was a very misty apparition, but you could easily make out the face, which caused me to bolt back upstairs and wake my 'ol man up. He said it was his grandmother and showed me a picture and I'll be damned if it wasn't the same woman. That's the only time I've ever seen anything like that.

I've had several instances of having contact with ghosts and the like.  So much so that during the entire fifth grade period, I took out several books from both the school library and the town's library on the subject.  Decided I wanted to get involved in psychology and parapsychology.  I truly believe in the existence of ghosts and paranormal phenomenon.

1. I saw what I thought was perhaps a UFO once when I was about seven ~ that freaked me major league.  :buggedout:

2. For about a year and a half after he passed, I would get almost nightly visits from my Dad. I would see someone sitting on my bedroom couch (where he always used to sit) and this person would be staring at me all the time. When I stayed in my mom's house when she was away, I would smell my Dad's cigarette smoke.  :buggedout: :buggedout: Last year the nocturnal visits stopped abruptly. I must just point out that when I realized who was sitting on that couch, I wasn't scared at all.

3. In the now refurbished National Film Archives building, there is a section of that 119 year old building that is haunted ~ between the rooms marked 17 and 19, there is a cold spot which chills you but it is only in that area, nowhere else. That building is not a place to be in after midnight, believe me.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

I think I saw a spirit once a few years ago.

I was in bed sleeping one night and I suddenly woke up.  I was trying to figure out why, I didn't have a nightmare, there were no weird noises invthe neighbourhood or anything like that.

I looked towards the end of my bed and I could have sworn I saw a figure shrouded in a long black hooded cloak type thing (there was no details, just the general shape) and where the eyes would be it was dimly lit and a little fuzzy.

I lay there rooted to the spot and reached for my glasses and to turn on the lamp.  When I did that, there was nothing and after I turned the light back off there was nothing either.

A couple of weeks later, I found out an old boyfriend of mine had drunk himnself to death and it was 3 days before anyone found his body.  I calculated that the "spirit" came to me at the time of his death.

Perhpas he reached out to me before he crossed over.  That was the only time I saw anything like that.

Have I ever seen a Bigfoot? Yeah, every time I look down in the shower. I'm over 6 feet tall.

If there are such things as UFOs, why do they only ever abduct clueless nobodies from out in the sticks? The impression aliens have of us must be so very tarnished by the quality of human they've been testing.

It wouldn't surprise me if, when the invasion finally comes, all the aliens speak in yokel accents and offer to trade Earth for a pig.

Note to self: Redneck Aliens would make for a pretty awesome movie.

That's nothing, just think of what they've likely learned by watching our television broadcasts. Think of what they would think of us after watching a bunch of 70's and 80's television cheese like Love Boat, TJ Hooker, Cagney and Lacy, Miami Vice, Soap, Night Court, Cheers, Hill Street Blues, Fantasy Island, Dallas, The Dukes of Hazzard, and any other cheesy shows I've forgotten.

If they've been watching sci-fi, (and I hear aliens are big fans of sci-fi, or "fi" as they call it), they'll have some odd ideas about what we're capable of. Perhaps the reason they haven't invaded is because they're afraid of Godzilla.

They're taking the low-threat people. 

Start kidnapping important people, somebody's going to notice.  Kidnap smart people and they just might notice something they can use against the aliens.  Kidnap well respected people and you have people willing to acknowledge that there IS an alien threat. 

Kidnap Joe Six-pack and when he gets back and starts telling hi stories about what the little green men did to him, he's not as likely to be believed by anybody or have noticed anything that would be useful.   

Them aliens is SMART.

I believe in ufos's...but alien abduction sounds like so much BS. I suppose it's possible...but the majority of abduction yarns are made by people with an agenda (Billy Meir,George Adamski,Whitley Strieber). Folks like Betty and Barny Hill,Travis Walton,...mebbe....,I take a very skeptic stance on abduction tales.

When I was a kid I was convinced Bigfoot lurked in the half acre of woods behind our house.

Some say he still roams this endless* expanse of forest.

I agree.  Not every story you hear is true, but that doesn't mean they're all fake either. 

I believe there are plenty of Klingons around Uranus.

My experiences are not very exciting, but here they are. About a year or so ago I was sitting in my room and I could hear some voices behind my door. It was whispers that I could hear but not understand. Pretty creepy, but iv'e not heard any more voices. On the UFO side of things, last year sometime there was a odd light flashing up in the air from the woods surrounding my house. Still don't know what that was. I have yet to see or hear anything Bigfoot related, which is unfortunate because thats what i'm interested in most.

The sponges migrated about a foot-and-a-half.

Could be schizophrenia. I once took medicine with vicoden in it and it made me hallucinate, much in a very similar way.

I wasn't taking any Medicine at the time, I'm pretty sure i'm not schizophrenic since i have never had any other symptoms of it. I'm still not completely sure it was ghosts, but my house is pretty old.

Are you fairly well-off? I know someone (knew, I believe she died recently) that owned a hotel, and some relatives that came to help her run it when things were bad actually put a small speaker in her mattress and were trying to 'brainwash' her. They were telling her to give the hotel and everything else she owned to them while she was sleeping.

I watched "The Fourth Kind" with Milla Jovovich last night.  The premise of alien abduction wsa pretty compelling.  I won't spoil it be putting up the ending but the movie freaked me out.

If that kind of thing really goes on, we should be very afraid living on this unguarded little planet.  :buggedout:

When I was growing up, I had a ghost who lived in the space between the door to my room and the wall it opened against.  It was just a faint, green glow.  I called him "Mr. Ghost".  I was never afraid of Mr. Ghost, on the contrary he was a somehow reassuring presence.

(Note: I do not believe that ghosts are or ever were human.  I'm not sure what they are but definitely not human.)

I also saw a ... thing at my apartment when I lived in Morristown.  My cat woke me up because he was freaking out.  When I opened my eyes I saw this indescribably hideous thing standing over my bed, looking down at me.  When I saw it, it turned away and put its arms in front of its face, as if it knew how ugly it was and didn't want to be seen, then it disappeared.  I spent the rest of the night sitting up on the couch.  My cat was glued to me, and he would periodically look up the stairs and growl.  My cat calmed down a little bit after the sun came up and I felt more at ease, too.  Nothing like that ever happened again.

Why are most ghosts depicted as human? You get the occasional horse, (normally with headless rider), and dog but why aren't slaughterhouse districts plagued by mass pig and cattle hauntings? Maybe they are, I've never heard of such stories. Perhaps butchers keep that kind of thing secret so as to not frighten everybody into becoming vegetarian?

I've never heard of a tree having a ghost either. Where's the cut-off point? If lumberjacks complained about the ghosts of giant redwoods stumbling around their houses at the dead of night, they'd be carted off to the psychiatrist for something experimental and dangerous. Imply you might have a more usual spectre and you're merely met with knowing nods and sympathy.

To cut a long story short, I'm being haunted by my leather couch. How do I help it cross over?

I didn't look through the entire thread to see if this has been covered. While I was not living in Phoenix at the time, Arizona experienced an interesting night back in 1997, when a phenomenon known as the "Phoenix Lights" event occured. The wikipedia article actually gives a pretty even-handed depiction of the events:

Much of the state witnessed what appears to have been two separate phenomena in the same night in different parts of the state, but given the close proximity of the events, they were being seen as connected. One of the events appears to have been explained with some logic, flares dropped in a training exercise from Luke Air Force Base that hovered, and can be seen for hundreds of miles given the right conditions. The other event, however, that didn't happen directly over Phoenix, has never been satisfactorily explained. This involved the appearance of a V-shaped formation of lights passing over various part of the state, with no reported or known military or civilian aircraft flying in said areas at the time.

So, if I put my conspiracy-theory cap on, I would guess that the first event over Phoenix was intentionally staged and then explained by the Air Force as a distraction against either an alien craft that they knew was going to be elsewhere in the state at the same time, or a top secret test flight that they are continuing to keep top secret.

See how easy conspiracy theories are? I just threw that one together on the spot.

I just got a question, why is it that most of the UFO sightings are in the Deserty areas of the US? It's usually in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, California, mostly in that area, few Up North Midwest, but never really in Cajun Country..... :question:
