Title: Getting Lucky
Post by: Andrew on May 03, 2011, 06:49:37 AM
A teenage nerd discovers a leprechaun in an empty beer bottle.  The nerd is in love with a cheerleader and the leprechaun must grant three wishes to escape from his glass prison.  If you think this sounds like the setup for a teen sex comedy, you are right.

I think I know that guy.

Sooner or later (probably when I am in my seventies), I am suddenly going to decide that a nerd accidentally dumping five gallons of yogurt on a blonde wearing a bikini is not funny. When that happens, I want you to smother me with my pillow and escape to Canada.

Thanks for the review, Andrew: I was feeling quite sick today until I read this. Now?  :teddyr: :teddyr: :teddyr:

you said that you might not be able to enjoy comedy teen films, I think it's just comedy teen sex films, because that is what this movie is about, right? the nerd in love with the most popular girl in school. then we have the mix between a leprechaun and a genie to through in.....sounds fun, but the execution? not so much. I would rather watch Clueless than this.

Dumped on a country road, Bill seems to be up a dry geek creek without a paddle until Genghis Khan suddenly appears and saves the day by loaning Bill a horse. The ardent groom chases down his runaway-with bride. What follows is a fencing match between the two suitors ala "Better Off Dead," except in this movie they use shish kabobs snatched up from an astonished group of campers instead of ski poles. Tony gets a beehive on his head. Bill gets Krissi, and pretty soon we can assume that Krissi will be getting Bill.

What?  That really happened?!  Genghis Khan and all?  Gees, so much for a down to earth teen sex comedy staring a genie leprechaun.

Always a pleasure!  Well, except when I review something that turns out to be a skull.

I am worried that someday I will not be able to enjoy teen comedies, especially teen sex comedies.  When that happens I'll know that I am finally old.  O-L-D.

I know I saw this movie on USA's Up All Night and it stayed with me because i remember the scene where the lead's his dreamgirl's shrubbery. A scene like that leaves an eye burning impression. Now I am trying to figure out how USA was able to show such a scene.

edit: The Boom Op/ still photographer actually goes pretty in depth about the making of (http://www.adamstarpictures.com/hollywood_films.htm) this flick, as well as a few other B's

There are times when you do not want to be in a cheerleader's panties.

Okay, I admit I've never seen this movie, but I find that statement highly questionable   :bouncegiggle:

Troma put this out, they put it on sale on their site very frequently.  I think it was 3 dollars on st. patricks day.

You know, this movie has an almost identical plot to the film Miracle Beach, except that one is about a female genie in a bottle who must grant wishes (or find love or something, I can't remember) to some down on his luck beach bum guy.  The movie has some funny bits (and tits), but it also features one of my most HATED cliches of moviedom: "hot chick is in love with some dude who's completely OBLIVIOUS to how she feels, despite the many anvilious hints she keeps dropping" cause we all know that SO often happens in real life (bitter, me?  No!)

Yeah, the genie girl is in love with the guy, but he's only got eyes for this other snooty b***h.

Anyway, can't really say which came first (suppose I could check IMDB, but I'm getting ready to leave the apartment, so...)

But, if you like this film, you should maybe check out that one.

This movie is awesome, I don't care what anyone else says. It's classic 80's humor. At least back then (in movies that is), nobody tried to pretend the ditsy cheerleader had more going on for her than she actually did. After watching this (I believe it was on "USA: Up All Night") as a lad, I would carry a bottle around the house sometimes and tell my mom that she better watch out or my leprechaun would teach her a lesson... God, I miss being a kid. The guy on the horses did kind of weird me out though.
