It seems today that these dang kids have everything.  I got to thinking this morning about how back in the day we didn't have the luxuries of youtube or downloading songs.  

My first album story comes from the mid 80s when Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet Came Out.  It seems all the kids in the 5th grade had the album to listen to at their leisure...well...except for me.   :lookingup:  I kept begging my parents and brother to pick it up for me on cassette but they didn't.   Some kids offered to record a copy of the cassette but I didn't want that sh!t!  I wanted the liner notes and the whole shabangabang.  

Anyhow, I had stopped believing in the Easter Bunny by the 4th grade.  However, I figured I'd stretch it out and tell my parents I wanted the tape from the Easter Bunny.   Yep, I was desperate.  But, finally on Easter morning I got the tape from the "Easter Bunny".  

Odd epilogue to that story, I pretty much can't listen to it now.  I outplayed it that year I think.  Well minus the first track "Let It Rock" which is still one of my favs.

Every Good Boy Deserves Favour by The Moody Blues was one of the first albums I ever heard as a child and certainly the first time I ever heard stereo sound. The opening track Procession freaked me out with its' weird sounds, thunder, lightning, ghostly chanting etc. and I slept with the light on for days on end.  :buggedout:

Oddly enough, TMB have since always been my favourite group ~ although I like almost any kind of music ~ but I will never forget almost wetting my pants in fear at those "unearthly" sounds coming out of the speakers. I learnt later that what sounded to me like ghosts was in fact the members of TMB performing an OM chant.  :teddyr:

My very first album was KISS Destroyer. A friend played me the first KISS song I had ever heard and I was immediately hooked. It wasn't long before I also had Dressed to Kill, KISS Alive, Love Gun, Double Platinum. I dressed up as Paul Stanley for Halloween in 1978. I really wanted to be Ace Frehley, but couldn't find any silver makeup, and also because it was easier to fake a costume for Paul than Ace. Keep in mind this was back in the day when you had to make a costume, not buy it at your local retailer.

I even got all four of the solo albums that they released in 1978. They were not good albums, and it was soon after that that my love of KISS began to decline. By the time Dynasty came out, I had begun to move on to other interests and other bands. That was about the time I started getting into Rush and Van Halen, and soon after would be embracing early 80's metal and then eventually hardcore metal, punk, and then I would radically and suddenly change my tastes again and got into Elvis Costello and Tom Waits. Elvis Costello remains my musical hero to this day.
