There's some Christian organization here in Arizona putting up billboards everywhere saying that May 21st is Judgement Day. They seem very, very convince of this. I'm wondering if this is a local phenomenon, or if this is happening around the rest of the country.

I saw something posted about this somewhere online.  Maybe Facebook.  I haven't lost any sleep over it yet.

I know I probably invited it with the topic, I was mainly just curious if this was local or more widespread.

I researched it further are found that there is a guy responsible for it who made the same prediction in 1994, and when it didn't come to pass he said he had miscalculated.

I saw this one actually on yahoo news. The same guy who has predicted May 21st has actually predicted the end of the world three times before and each time was, well, we are still here so a fizzle.

The thing is, his believers from what I understand have spread this word not only across the USA but also internationally and are convincing people even in other countries that the end of the world is scheduled for 8 days from this posting. From a religious standpoint I am always skeptical as a Christian when people say they know when the end of the world is because the same Bible that they use to prove the end time is next Tuesday also says in Mark 13:32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert[e]! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. " So if no-one knows how did this guy figure it out?

May 21st isn't a good time for me either my daughter is (according to the Dr.s) supposed to be born the day after that.

I'll also specify here before people get creeped out by the Bible passage above that I am an American too, which means I respect the rights of others to/or not to practice religion. Which means no tirades are forthcoming towards aetheists from my end.

It's like aliens landing on earth in thousands of years (when, say humans have ceased to exist), they find a Stephen King novel (probably "The Stand") and a VHS of Star Wars and take every word/image as fact because there's no-one around to say any different and they are experiencing a world new and unfamiliar. Tsar bomba is the largest nuclear bomb yet detonated by man, though the device itself was so large and heavy it would not have been a practical weapon.

Funny thing about this rapture business; This afternoon, I discovered a circle of bricks buried in my back yard...

It was buried their by ancient druid yeti who were desendents of an alien race. If you decipher the scratches on the bricks (those are Atlantean hyroglyphics) it will tell you that the world will end on Friday the 13th,1999.

I found a circle of bricks buried in my yard: it was the top of an old dug well housing.  It was not filled very well either as it subsides a bit every year: so be careful there, LilCerb!

In all honesty I don't think the dinosaurs had time to think about this.  They were simply trying to survive.  Man has too much time to think apparently.

I read in the paper this morning about a group of eighty (yes, 80!) people that had sold everything, given up their jobs and said their farewells, then booked into a hotel in Johannesburg to await the end of the world. All that's awaiting them now is a huge hotel bill.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

I got dragged out of bed Saturday morning with my wife's announcement that we were going to spend the day cleaning the house and doing yard work. Not quite the end of the world, but definitely a frightening surprise.

Heh, I ended up doing a lot of yard work on Saturday as well.  It was a nice day to be outside.  It didn't even rain, so I'd call that something of a bust for the end of the world.

On Friday and Saturday I went to the familyradio.com website, the organization that was pushing the May 21st Judegement Day thing, and it was of course talking about how the Rapture would happen on that day and so on. I just went on the website right now and of course all traces of the prediction are gone now.

I'm always amazed that preditions of Judgement Day consistently overlook that bit of scripture that says it will come without warning.

A further note. There's a wikipedia article about the prediction, and apparently Harold Camping, who said he was so certain about the prediction, has been holed up and cannot be reached for comment.

Whenever an upcoming 'day of ends' is to happen, I always view it with some trepidation. Not because I think it will actually happen, but rather my mom's hysteria over Y2K. She had stocked her home with water, countless containers of coffee, canned vegetables, flour and of all things....lysol.

I have one serious problem with Camping. It's hard to take his predictions of doom seriously when I can't read his name without thinking of sleeping in a tent and toasting marshmallows over a fire.

I suppose even if I did take him seriously, I'd still make that association on some level.
