Title: 80's Vampire Comedies
Post by: crackers on June 05, 2011, 05:11:55 AM
I watched both My Best Friend's A Vampire and Once Bitten the other day. I hadn't seen them since they came out and forgot how good they were.

Can you guys recommend any more?

Vamp's an old favorite of mine.  Dedee Pfeiffer as Amaretto is very memorable     Transylvania 6-5000 is a good fun time too.

The original "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie is actually quite campy. It's nothing like the TV series. "Fright Night" has some funny moments even though it's not a comedy, same with "The Lost Boys." "Dracula: Dead and Loving it" is from the early 90's but it has Leslie Neilson in it and it's hilarious.

I really like the original Buffy film, especially the Paul Rubens death scene.

Just a bit before the 80s, but Love at First Bite is pretty funny, especially Arte Johnson as Renfield.

I guess I'll throw Mark Pirro's A Polish Vampire in Burbank into the mix for this topic.  Haven't seen it in quite some time since I moved on to dvd and packed away my vhs collection.

Oops!! Sorry! Like AHD always tells me, I do need to read and re-read (my memory's terrible!) posts over and over again. Yeah I need an embarrassed smiley...

Fright Night seems like tghe obvious one to me.

But Grace Jones was fangtastic in Vamp.

Does The Lost Boys count? I have the soundtrack to tghat and thats really all I remember of it. Not as big a fan as most people.

This came out in '90, but James Bond III's Def By Temptation was a really interesting movie. Sort of like if Spike Lee made a vampire movie (not quite as good as that description, but you get the idea). Definitely worth watching if you're into offbeat vampire films.

I want to recommend Vampires On Bikini Beach. But I also don't want to actually RECOMMEND Vampires On Bikini Beach.

So instead I'll just say I'm glad you enjoyed My Best Friend Is A Vampire (it's a long-held personal favorite of mine), and I'll leave you with the BEST scene from Once Bitten:

PS> Karen Kopins is hawt! She is the one reason, the ONLY reason, I recently went and paid good money for a VHS copy of Archie: Return To Riverdale at a local thrift store recently. God, I love that woman. I wish she'd done more movies. ::sigh:: ::swoon::

I watched Vamp the other night and loved it. Especially the surprise of Gedde Watanabe.
