Title: recommend bob some movies Post by: bob on June 29, 2011, 10:11:58 PM Lately I've been watching movies that are related to 2 books I'm writing I need a break from those films. While they're fun to watch it's starting to feel like a job like taking super long notes and rewatching them twice, things like that.
So here are my favorite films by catagory to give an idea of what I like. Any suggestions would be appreicated. The Wrestler (1974) - total kayfabe wrestling movie btw., largely silly but has some good moments here and there and Ed Asner whom well I like. Grunt! The Wrestling Movie - hilariously bad but has some really entertaining wrestling segments, more comedic than serious though. Blood & Guts (1978)- not a great film but arguably more realistic than most. Kinda dull and drags though. Body Slam - cheesy but 80s fun. A little tough slugging at times though. The One and Only - kinda cheesy especially since it features Henry Winkler as a wrestler but surprisingly I kind of liked it myself. I Like To Hurt People - great glimpse at 70s style wrestling featuring the legendary original Shiek. If you like ladies wrestling, you should check out: ...All the Marbles Below the Belt American Angels: Baptism of Blood All surprisingly good and entertaining IMO although the last one's more a bad movie type goodness. Based on what you already listed, Rocky III (honestly I love all the Rocky films myself) The Jerk (Steve Martin's best IMO) The Maltese Falcon (Bogart at his best) Teenagers From Outer Space (a bad movie must!) Night and the City (1950) (wrestling actually figures into this one too but it's more a film noir about the fall of a man) The Calimari Wrestler - every bad movie/wrestling fan ought to see this Bad Guys (1986) - another very cheesy 80s film that factors pro wrestling into its unlikely plot. Action/Adventure: The Punisher (1989) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umYvv7K4Z_I Often I find out that such and such has not seen or even heard of the 1989 version. It's many times better then the 200? version. Drama: The Adventurers (1969) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JjgkZzUgmc Sorry, I cannot find a trailer but the movie being dated does make it fun to watch and oddly it feels like watching James Bond meets The Godfather. Epic: Demanding... Since Star Wars has elements from WW2... Where Eagles Dare (1968) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxBZ4Kh1zpU When I watch Where Eagles Dare I picture Han and Luke on a mission to destroy the top secret Nazi base. Trailer is almost 7 mins long epic... The Night of the Generals (1967) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdEg6TL1PJQ I love Night of the Generals because it has that Thriller twist. Crime: Thief (1981) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keET6waBJHk When I watch the movie I feel like I could break into a bank vault. Adaptations: Slaughterhouse-Five (1972) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TQGhm2wBsE This seems to work with most movies that you have listed. I have not read the book but the movie is quite good. Science Fiction: Strange Days (1995) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE2dO6UyK3Q Quite hard at first since you have seen many "good SF moives" Strange Days is not your typical SF movie, but if you have not seen it by now... you should. Horror: Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1973) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEgX1cDkrH0 I'm picking Lemora since it's almost unheard of... The story is dark and gothic... Thriller: The Red Queen Kills Seven Times (1972) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy-Y-MIW1lE The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FRLMPDl3Ek Did you ever hear of Giallo? In this scene, one guy has gangrene in his foot and snaps and starts singing about snowmen. Also, her son is a heroin addict, who hangs with his girlfriend, who's addicted to cocaine and heroin. ALso, their best friend is a junkie as well. It delves further into their lives, which results in the mother going in a hospital lockdown, the girlfriend becoming a hooker, the boyfriend getting such an infected arm from heroin he gets amputated, and their friend attempting to steal a bunch of money from dealers and some tvs and gets arrested.
