Title: What's the Most Physically Painful Thing You've Endured
Post by: Mofo Rising on July 08, 2011, 04:14:00 AM
I'm pretty sure the women on this board who've had children already know the answer to this. To that I say, no fair.

Cheaters.

My most painful thing is kind of goofy, since I did it to myself. I've never broken a limb or been in a serious accident.

The most painful thing that happened to me was trying to eat the Four Horseman Burger from Chunky's in San Antonio. It was a spicy burger featured on Man vs. Food. I'm an aficionado of spicy food, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I can eat habaneros straight with no real damage, I'm not afraid of the spicy.

Here's what happened. I ate half of the burger very fast. It was literally demolishing my face. I entered into a realm where there was nothing but the spicy pain of the burger and me trying to finish it. I lost all control of every fluid in my head. I was weeping, drooling snot and drooling regular-style. Everything else ceased to exist except for myself and the pile of pain in front of me I was trying to ingest. Sad to say, my body said "No!" and I ended up puking most of it before I could finish.

I'm very disappointed with myself. One day I will go back and finish that burger.

But the eating it was not the most painful part. Even though I threw up most of that hellfire, a good amount remained in my system. For some reason, my body did not put it through the regular digestive channels. A huge pit of capsaicin remained in my stomach, and so for the rest of the night I was inundated with incredible pain in my stomach about once every two hours.

This was me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP5Ges4plp4

But I couldn't get rid of it, it was inside me. After about five or six hours of this, I started quaffing water like nobody's business. The water finally gave my body the wherewithal to try and puke up the, let's face it, poison I had ingested.

Here's the thing, those of you who have puked know it is not an orderly process. I started vomiting uncontrollably, but not just out of my mouth. I ended up puking what might as well have been lava out my mouth and also out of my nasal cavities. If that's not bad enough, I was puking into a toilet, which had the unfortunate quality of being full of water which would occasionally splash back onto my face.

As painful as that whole experience was, I'm still angry I didn't finish the Four Horseman Burger. One of these days I will go back.

My daughter's boyfriend wants to try that burger. I will have to tell him about your experience. Oh, and milk is better for neutralizing capsaicin burn than water.

As for me, it was gall stones. For three months I would experience random, stabbing pain through my abdomen, followed usually by puking up gray liquid and/or pooping out gray/yellow/green stuff. There was nothing that could be done once an attack started. My doctor wasn't thinking gall stones because those usually occur in overweight women over 40, and I was a thin man in my thirties. Finally, I had to go to an emergency clinic one weekend, and the doctor there ordered an ultrasound. Sure enough, they found the stones, ordered the surgery, and voila! no more attacks. Just about the only thing I could eat during that period was tuna fish on dry white bread and the only drink I could have was water. I hated tuna fish before. Now, I really hate it.

And I have been told by my sister that gall bladder attacks are a pain worse than childbirth.

Thanks goodness I've never had 'em, but I have a couple of friends who had kidney stones. That's also supposed to be the male equivalent to childbirth pain.

Someone broke my ankle and the bone was showing. (about 15 yrs ago) I was in shock when it happened (no pain) but the next day that was 100% the MOST painful feeling! I could not walk for a month. I'll try to find the xray.

I had a REALLY badly ingrown big toenail when I was in the Navy, and our brilliant Corpsman decided to cut off ONLY the ingrown side - which meant taking a pair of scissors and cutting my big toenail in half, right down the centerline!  The toe was already red, inflamed, and throbbing when I got there.  He stuck a HUGE needle full of what was supposed to be a numbing agent into the most inflamed area.  That was when I began to whimper.  He waited about 10 minutes and THUMPED the end of my toe and said "Did you feel that?"  I screamed.  Then he said, "Well, there's folks in line for sick call.  That stuff will kick in before I am done!"  and cheerfully started clipping into my big toenail.  That was when I discovered that I had muscles in my buttocks that could climb up the back of the exam chair - I would have made my getaway, but he kept grabbing my ankle and yanking me back into the seat until he was done with his butchery . . . then he wrapped it in gauze and let me go.
At the time I had a Top Secret clearance, and I told Doc as he released me: "It's a good thing you weren't the Russians, because our national security would be gravely compromised by now!!!"

As soon as the half of my big toenail grew back in, it got ingrown and infected again.  The second time he cut off the whole toenail instead of half - and for some reason that didn't hurt nearly as bad!

I made the mistake of going to my regular dentist instead of an oral surgeon to have a molar removed. The dentist struggled for an hour and a half to get that tooth out. The pain was indescribable.

The reason was that my molar had 3 roots instead of the normal two, they were much longer than normal roots and one of them was bent backwards like a fish hook. It even had a little growth at the very bottom like a barb!

The fact that I could hear and smell everything that was going on just made things worse. I didn't think the novocaine helped much but once it wore off things started to really hurt. Needless to say I took full advantage of the vicodin perscription he wrote for me.

I was like Ralph in the Vid when I caught a bug last August, except everything was closing in, felt like it was contracting, squeezing to the point of the feeling that the insides were just burnt, abused, and exhausted.

I think I told this story before, but I was running a jackhammer and breaking up the concrete stairs behind our house.  Lots of nice strain on the trapezius muscles lifting that 40 lb thing up about 1,000 times that day.  Later that evening I guess the right side of that muscle decided to detach itself.  What followed was about 5 - 7 days of absolute misery.  It wasn't just in my upper back / neck, but went all the way down my right arm to my hand.  It was only miserable during the day when I was moving around.  The real agony came at night. If I fell asleep for 15 minutes, those muscles would tighten up and, boy oh boy...imagine taking the round end of a ball peen hammer and pounding it on the top of your forearm about 25 times.  Good fun!   :teddyr:

Definitely the impacted, abscessed wisdom tooth they had to dig out of my jaw a few years ago. The surgery and recovery were bliss complared to how bad that SOB hurt for about a week before they removed it. It was over Christmas Holiday, too.

I had a severe ankle sprain in high school which saw me in rehab for about 6 months after wearing a cast for about a month.  A fellow stepped on it literally caving it in.   I still sprain it from time to time.

Dental pain is my bugaboo.  Tapping fillings, scraping against nerve, etc.. OUCH!!!

I've too have had many dental issues throughout the years.  I had my wisdom teeth out while concious, countless fillings and braces.  Braces sucked for me because every time they tightened them I was in pain for days.  Nothing epically painful but rather annoying.

Sickness wise two occasions come to mind.  First being in Aruba and getting a horrible case of something.  My wife and I ate some bad egg salad on a snorkle cruise and we were double ending the next 24 hours.  Though I stopped puking/diarhea after 24 hours I swear I felt shaky for about three weeks afterwards.

Secondly a flu, pneumonia or maybe both when I was in my early 20s.  I got hit HARD and it ripped through everyone I came into contact with during that time.  I literally slept for 24 hours one day.

Pleurisy.

I can't imagine anything more painful.  Twisting my knee all the way around so that my foot was facing backwards?  Feh!  That was nothing compared to pleurisy.  Imagine being stabbed in the ribs with a red-hot knife, every time you inhale or exhale.  Yeah.

Oh I've had lots of fun with teeth as well.  One molar was full of fillings, it cracked in half, I imagine the nerve was nice and exposed.  Dentist appointment was a week later.

I had gall bladder surgery back in 2008. I've had 2 children and your sister is right ... gall bladder attacks are a pain worse than childbirth.  I remember having excruciating pain that rolled through my stomach, into my chest and radiated up into my  back. The first attack I had was so bad, I thought I was having a heart attack!  I had been having attacks for about 2 months before I had the surgery. Been fine since  then.

Some very painful episodes here.  Pleurisy sounds bad for being steady, gnawing pain that you cannot escape.

Women do go through some pain with childbirth.  Katie was in labor for over 14 hours with Jenna, and it was all very painful back labor.  There is something about steady gnawing pain that wears you down.  Katie also went through an issue with her gal bladder and it had to be removed.  She was nearly comatose from the pain.

For me, I ran 25 miles on a severely sprained ankle.  That was probably my most painful, because of the steady gnawing pain like I mentioned.  It wasn't bad until miles 16-25, when the swelling and damage started really impeding the mechanics of my ankle.  They had to cut the bottom of my foot to drain the blood.

Had a class II or III A/C separation in my shoulder that ripped the skin.  The really bad part about it was holding the weighted sandbags so they could take x-rays of the damage.  That was pain, pure pain.

Had a filling removed and replaced without Novocaine.  Had to do it, because they couldn't get the area numb and we were leaving for Iraq in a matter of days.  Also have been sewn up without local anesthetic, which wasn't nearly as bad as the filling.

Overall, I've escaped quite a few really painful injuries I've seen in other Marines.  Broken bones (one with a compound broken arm that was facing the wrong way), an ear and scalp partially ripped off, other traumatic injuries, and even severe sunburn top that list.  Having really bad sunburn over a significant portion of your body looks to be agonizingly painful.

Once when my son was little his fingernail scratched my eyeball, all the was across the iris and pupil, about 1/2" long.

Another time he shoved his finger up my nose as far as it could go while I was sleeping. I honestly thought he stabbed the back of my eyeball, and he had really thin fingernails that cut the inside of my nose, which bled for a couple days. I jumped awake when he did it and it made a suction-cup sounding noise when his finger came out.

Salmonella Food Poisoning  (or whatever it was, that's what they said) when I was a preteen: I could not stand up straight I was so constantly doubled over in pain and it was an endless parade of both vomiting and diarrhea, oftentimes both at the very same time! I've also had a number of stomach flu attacks but they were mild in comparison.

I had an abcessed tooth pulled as well...I swear I could feel everything despite the needles given me. Honestly I very nearly passed out from the pain. Didn't help the lady dentist really didn't have the proper strength to pull the sucker right out and she struggled for quite a while.

Oh I should add I've also had acid reflux attacks that made my chest feel very tight and the pain was very severe, I thought I was having a gall bladder attack or an heart attack, with them as well.

Having my nose cauterized.
Wow.  When I saw this I knew I had to respond.  I had an ingrown hair or sumpin' right on the inside of my septum and poked it with a pin, and made a mess that bled a lot and needed to be cauterized   You thought that hurt?
Hmmm, let's see...
Crushed my right thumb in a door jamb.  Twice.  What a stupid story.  I didn't feel it at first, but wondered why the door wouldn't shut.  So... I did it again.    That thumb is tough, but that nail never grew back right and I was maybe 13.
I had Chronic Appendicitis... not Acute (with that tender side rush to the hospital pain).  This pain was worse... then went away.  No pain at all.  It took nearly two months of on again off again being sick (vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, then... fine) to be diagnosed.   :bluesad:
Hernia surgery; that only hurt about 12 hours after the surgery, and for about 1 long day.   :hatred:

Oh, and MofoRising (my hero) who originated this thread trying to eat the Lava Burger or whatever: I took a large cooked piece of the scotch bonnett, more even than my host the warhorse veteran, and that was excruciating in the mouth.  Exhausting, unending fire that no milk white bread ice water beer BLAH!!! could take away!!!  After 15 minutes or so, it passed.  After a few emotionless tear wipes (I, too, was watering in most unattractive fashions) I felt an urge to do it again...  :buggedout:  :teddyr:

Sepsis.

Caused by perforated diverticuli.

I think I may have mentioned this in another thread a year or so ago, but a few years back, I basically had an abscess on the wall of my intestine pop, causing a severe blood infection. I remember the day when the thing must've popped, it was just agony. I was staying over a friend's house, too, so it was just horrible, me standing in a corner of their bathroom, feeling this ridiculous unexplainable pain in my gut, doubled over, just trying to stay out of everybody's way, sweating and groaning but trying NOT to make a scene. I wanted to go to the hospital but I didn't have health insurance at the time and I didn't want to pay for an ER visit, especially if it turned out to be something stupid, like gas (which, for some bizarre reason I'll never full understand, I was convinced was the problem). I eventually went home and, the pain didn't go away, but it wasn't as intense, so I figured "okay, a little while longer and I'll be fine again." I spent the next, like, 3 days laying on the couch in the living room, getting up only to go pee, unable to eat anything, just laying there in pain, convincing myself that if I just waited it out, everything would turn out fine. Sometimes it wouldn't be too bad. Other times I'd be burying my face in a pillow, groaning loudly. Actually, I only THOUGHT I was groaning. Everyone I lived with later told me I basically just screaming. They also told me they originally just through I was being melodramatic. My family was trying to get me to go to the hospital but I kept refusing. Finally agreed to go AFTER the upcoming weekend IF the pain wasn't gone by then. A few hours later and the deal was off. My family forced me to go that very day, I remember it was Friday, and after hours in the waiting room and going through tests, suddenly things started moving at a rapid pace once the test results came back and the doctors realized what was wrong with me. They told me that if I HAD waited until "after the weekend" as I was originally so determined to do, I would've definitely been dead. As it was, they doped me up on painkillers and pumped me full of antibiotics in hopes of fixing the problem. If I didn't start getting better by morning, they were gonna rush me into surgery. Next morning, I was worse, not better, so, yeah, surgery. I ended up having to live with a colostomy bag for about a half a year, though thankfully that was not to be a permanent change in my life. Definetely the most painful thing I've ever experienced. Haven't broken a bone, never had a small child rake a hangnail across my eye or shove his finger up my nose (Ghouck, I feel your pain... but I won't deny that the nose story was truly hilarious), but I did almost die, so that's worth something. I also discovered the wonderful world of dilotin (I have no idea if that's spelled correctly), a pain-killer that is, I think, a rung or two above morphine (which I also discovered doesn't do anything for me at all). I can totally see how people get addicted to pain-killers. I took that stuff EVERY day I was in the hospital. The doctors said I could ask for it every few hours, and I watched the clock like a hawk waiting for the next dosage time. The doctors also said I didn't have to take it every time and that I should only take it if I felt I needed it. I took it EVERY SINGLE TIME. I couldn't even sleep without that stuff when I was in the hospital. It was the only thing that got me through, to be honest (with the exception of the visits from my family and friends, though, in reality, many of those were just awkward... being that I was usually either doped up on pain-killers or wishing I was).

Another painful memory associated with that whole scenario? I remember having to drink some nasty concoction for some medical test or another (can't remember what it was called right now, but it wasn't the last time I had to do it) which promptly made me s**t my pants. Embarassed, I then wiped my butt clean and threw away the soiled boxers. My Batman boxers. My lucky boxers. My favorite pair.  :bluesad:

Goodnight, sweet undies. May flights of hospital janitorial staff workers sing thee to thy rest.

I fractured a patella wrecking a snowmobile when I was fifteen.   My patellar tendon came off my tibia (so that my quadricep no longer could work, and I couldn't extend my leg).

The really painful moment was when I tried to stand up.  They say it this way in books, but I actually had this experience:  I heard someone screaming, and then I was on my back, looking up into the sky.

Intervertebral disc slip, causing the three most painful weeks I ever had.
I had to literally crawl out of bed, one leg at the time. I needed help to stand up, and walking, if you could call it that, was only possible with a cane. I couldn't stand straight - my upper body had to lean to the left.
I could only do tiny steps. It took me ten minutes to get from my room to the kitchen.
I basically had pain 24/7, but my doctor gave me a few shots in my back so I could sleep a couple of nights without pain. Fun times.

Oh, I'm aware. Capsaicin is hydrophobic, oil-based if you will, so water is essentially useless. They gave me a glass of milk after. Here's a thing, milk may be better, but it is still essentially useless. It did no good to me at all.

I only started chugging water hours after I was done eating the burger and it was eating up my stomach, and I only did that because I knew I needed something to help me vomit up the pain that would not leave me alone.

Child birth was pretty horrible and terrifying.  Even with an epidural I was out of my mind with 12 hours of pain.

And once I had the flu so bad, I couldn't lie down on my bed because my skin felt like it was being stabbed by knives all over my body.  I was staying with an aunt and I think I got something from the central air conditioning unit they used as a heater.  I don't think it was ever cleaned.  Both times I asked God to take me because I was ready.  I didn't want to endure the pain any more.  But He didn't listen.

Three weeks ago, Sean called it quits for good.  I never thought a broken heart could hurt so much.  I was wrong.  I've been asking God to take me again because I can't take it any more.  Again He's not listening.

The Universe really hates me.  That is all.

Two events that I can say were similar in levels of pain and far worse than anything before or since:

My ex girlfriend sent me out to get a burger one night from the take-out up the road. I was gone about 20mins, came back to the house in darkness and walked through the front door. She was waiting for me on the stairs with a knife and came at me. Instead of trying to grab her arm and the knife, I turned to get away and she stabbed me right in the base of my back. I then hit the floor and what made it scarier was that I went blind for about 2 hours afterwards. Luckily she didn't stab me again, just started crying and apologised.

The other thing was having my in-grown toe nail removed. I was really worrying that the anaesthetic wouldn't cover the pain enough when they yanked it out but it did. I didn't even feel the nail coming out at all but oh boy! When that pain relief injection wore off I was in hell. For about a week, it just throbbed and ached like nothing I've ever known. What made it all the worse was that it got infected and my toe went black with all this green gunk pouring out, I thought my toe would have to be cut off! The remedy was tablets and having the wound scraped!! Arrggh!!

Hard to say. The most intense pain I've had has usually been the kind that is excruciating but fast. The pain peaks for an instant, then drops off. The endorphins kick in fairly quickly, and my memory barely registers what it felt like. Breaking my ankle was like that. It was painful enough to make me scream the moment it happened, but I don't really remember that much pain.

I've also tried to save on shaving in the morning by getting my scalp waxed. Again, intense pain, but it was but there and gone in an instant. The pain was manageable, and when the brain chemicals started pumping, it was kind of a rush. I considered that experiment a failure more for it being an excessively difficult and lengthy process than for the pain, and because I hated growing the hair out for a couple of weeks to do it. The result was pretty cool though.

I have a pretty high threshold for pain.

Arrggh!!

s**t, your ex really is crazy.

Split the side of my balls open.

 :bluesad:

Wow...how did that happen?

I'm very sorry to hear about your broken heart, KB. Having experienced that as well, I know it hurts, and for a long time. In college, I fell for a woman with whom I was close friends. Just when I was ready to confess my love, I found out she had started dating someone else, whom she eventually married. That was 25 years ago, and I still feel twinges. It completely messed me up for several years; I was hopelessly depressed. But rest assured that the universe doesn't hate you--you have friends here who care about you, and somehow it will eventually be better. Not great, but endurable. And while you likely already know all this, I felt I should let you know I can empathize.

Also, I can empathize with all the ingrown toenail stories. Been there, done that, screamed like a pre-teen girl.

Don't give up, Killer Bees. I know that you feel horrible right now, but this won't last forever. Don't let depression take over. It makes you think only about the bad things, and you don't realize that you have friends, and a world full of opportunities.
Be strong.

There was blood.
And yellowy puss stuff as it tried to heal. The skin there is so soft that it takes FOREVER to heal.

Put scissors away proplerly. And if they are going to point out, make sure it's the handle end, not the cutty bit!

I did NOT go to a doctor as I was too embarassed so I had to put it back together myself. And there were tears in my eyes as I I did it.

You're the only people I have ever told this story too.

Yeah, had it been me, fear would have won out over embarrassment, and I'd have made for the nearest ER. I take no chances where the meat and two veg are concerned. Fortunately, the worst injury I've had down there didn't do any real damage - running into the back of a parked car on a bicycle and sliding nuts-first into the handlebar post. Painful enough for this thread though.

Did you try to close the wound with anything Doggett? Steri-strips, Krazy Glue, something like that? Antibiotic cream? I can see where the constant rubbing and flexing of the skin, not to mention the moisture and bacteria in that location would make healing slow and painful without stitches.

As an aside, I've noticed lately a few of us on the board have been sharing personal things we might not otherwise talk about. This has really become a caring and supportive place. It's a shame we all live too far apart for real-world friendship.

toothache, easily. had about a week of unrelenting toothache about 8 years ago. it took my mind to insane places of madness that I don't ever want to go back to. I've had toothache since, badly, but that one week of it stands out...

also fell in a dirty swimming pool that had dead badgers in it and the next day woke up with a burning throat that continued for a week, and the only thing I could consume was small sips of water. it felt like my throat was literally on fire for a week and I couldn't even talk. probably should've sought medical help for that but didn't...

About 4 years ago I was working in a beverage warehouse when the kid on the forklift spun around while an empty pallet was sitting on his forks, not tilted back.  It landed right on my ankle.  I didn't feel much pain at the time so I kept working on it.. big mistake.  Went home that night and a few hours later I COULD NOT walk on it AT ALL.  It really, really hurt and I had to get up (ouch!) and put an ice bag on it all night.  I really couldn't sleep through the pain.  Needless to say I didn't work the next day, I got it put in a cast and had to go back to work Monday.  That pain was pretty harsh to deal with.

Well, I used lots of loo roll to constantlky wipe the blood and gunk away two or three times a day. And cleaned the wound out with boiling hot water. That hurt more than the injury actually...

Some anticeptics creams are thick and waxy and thats what I used. I had to keep my hands in my pockets and hold myself as I walked so there wasn't much movement in the testicle area (and I had to look normal while I was doing it) which would allow the skin time to heal.

I guess, I was very lucky. If it had got infected, I could've been in real trouble.

I was watching something on TV yesterday that made me think of Doggett's story. It was one of those Kratt Brothers nature shows, and they were watching Komodo Dragons. They spotted a water buffalo with a ragged, bloody wound between its hind legs, and initially thought the thing's nuts had been bitten off. They discussed this in graphic terms for several minutes before seeing that they were mistaken, and the lizard had just taken a big chunk out of its inner thigh.

What was funny was that they were wincing, I was wincing, and there was an overall sense of discomfort. Then, when they saw the balls, there was almost a collective sigh of relief at home and on the TV. The water buffalo still had a fatal bacterial infection and a bunch of hungry lizards gathering to devour it, but its nuts had not been bitten off. Whew! What a relief!

It's something I don't think women will ever fully comprehend, the relationship between a man and his junk.

When I was around 12 years old, I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed.  The oral surgeon had to cut the teeth out of my gums.  3 of them came out fairly easily, but 1 was a problem and he had to cut the tooth in half to get it out.  The procedure itself was pretty painless . . . I was awake through the whole thing, but they gave me novocaine.  The painful part was after the teeth were removed.  The oral surgeon shot a stream of water into the holes where my teeth had been.  One of the holes must have had an exposed (and not properly numbed) nerve in it.  The pain I felt when the stream of water went into that hole was unbelievable.  I felt it from my jaw all the way down to my feet.  I remember tightly gripping both armrests of the dentists chair.  Somehow, I didn't scream.  later in life I had a heart attack and a cardiac catheterization, which were NOTHING compared to that cold water shooting under my gums.

A couple of years ago, I had an old filling fall out of a tooth, which I continued to avoid fixing as the cavity grew nearly to the pulp. I'd say nearly a third of the tooth above the gumline was gone. Bite down wrong on that, and the pain is indescribable, which is what finally prompted me to get it fixed. I was fortunate in that I just barely avoided a root canal on that tooth. It was borderline, but still salvageable. Had to have it drilled twice though, because the dentist first put a temporary medicated filling in for a couple of weeks, to settle things down before the real repair.

Dental drilling and grinding is bad because even if the pain is totally dulled, there is still an awful sensation from the vibrations transmitted through the tooth. I hate that.

I'll add my name to the list of knee injuries.

When I was sophmore in high school I would help my little brother out with his paper route. ( and earned a few extra $$$ a month for spending cash).  Once a  month we had to go door to door for the paper fees.  Well, during one winter we went out collecting after a snow storm.  We started having one of those fights that siblings have that turned into a shoving match. I stepped on some ice and collapsed as my kneecap twisted out of place.

I remember being on the ground, packing snow around my knee and yelling out every curse word I could remember.  My brother had to go to one of the house and call for help.  I ended up using crutches and my leg in a brace.

On the bright side, I got to skip gym class for the rest of my high school career thanks to a medical excuse.

A cracked tooth.  I was at a local bar that I used to frequent.  On nights that it gets packed, there's no room at all to move.  This bar served 16oz. Budweisers, whereas most area bars only have the 12oz. ones.  I picked up the bottle to take a sip, and this guy next to us, not realizing I had the bottle to my mouth, extended his arm to point his friend in the direction of the bathroom.  His arm whacked the bottle, the bottle cracked my tooth.  There was no blood, but I couldn't eat for a week, as it was my front top tooth.  I could only eat soft stuff, but would have to cut it in half and chew on the side of my mouth until I could get it fixed.

Mind you, I've been the victim of three different muggings by three different gangs, and the cops were involved in each as I was pretty badly beaten in them.

Not only that, but I've also had a metal door slammed on my head.  Hard enough to warrant a trip to the hospital, stitches, and the doctor's being somewhat unable to tell if I had a concussion (luckily, no concussion.)  In fact, during this incident, I kinda just laughed the entire time, and laughed as the stitches came out.

I also saw the band Deftones last summer.  In what was essentially a parking garage, in August, with about 5,000 lunatics, no air conditioning, and everybody throwing fists, elbows, feet at each other.  Got beaten down.

Yet, a chipped tooth was the most painful thing I endured. :buggedout:

On the bright side, I got to skip gym class for the rest of my high school career thanks to a medical excuse.

That's a lot like the circumstances of my broken ankle. I was walking back to my house with a friend. It was late. We'd had a few beers (not drunk) and bought a pizza. The sidewalks were covered in snow, so we walked on the street. A car was coming, so we scooted up onto the snowbank. Only I happened to hit a patch of ice that shot my foot right out from under me. I'm not completely sure how I came down on it, but I busted my right tibia and fibula. All I remember is letting out a hell of a scream. The worst of the pain was over in an instant, and I really have no recollection of what it felt like. I was more disturbed by the way my foot hung when I tried to move. A passing car stopped, and the driver proceeded to his house down the street where he called an ambulance, this being almost 20 years ago, before everybody got a cell phone. Must have been lying in that snowbank for at least half an hour waiting for the ambulance to come from the city.

I now have a metal plate, a couple of pins and a whole bunch of screws in that ankle, and a zipper scar up both sides.

And just to show how much of a dick my subconscious can be, the first couple of nights after the ankle surgery, I had a recurring dream in which I was driving toward a brick wall and stepping on the brake as hard as I could. At that point I'd wake up pressing my toe against the inside of my cast as hard as I could. Ow.

I'm pretty sure the women on this board who've had children already know the answer to this. To that I say, no fair.

Cheaters.

Hmph.  I'll assume I am allowed to take exception to the 'cheaters' comment.  :tongueout:  Particularly since it is entirely possible these days to go through the birth process and not actually experience any of it.

I suppose I have led a 'safe' and uneventful life: I have experienced a very small number of incidents that have immediately dropped me to my knees with momentary pain, but nothing major.

Once, I bought this cool metal cube. I was in my attic playing with it when a bunch of sharp hooks came out of nowhere and ripped me into pieces.

That happened to me, too!  Even worse, it itched like a mofo when I was resurrected and consumed other people whole to get my flesh back.

A Slytherin once cast the Cruciatus Curse on me.

I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Really? I just got a bunch of nails driven into my skull. Had migraines ever since. But I got a cool leather outfit out of the deal.

Couldn't spell the slurpy noise, eh? Me either. It defies onomatopoeia.

So did I. There was not one character in that movie that I didn't enjoy seeing die. Usually I complain that a movie tries too hard to make you like the characters, in Skyline they didn't try at all. It was like "Here's a bunch of a***oles, hope you like them. . "

Yeah, well they pretty much leave those cubes lying all over the place. An attractive nuisance, if you ask me. Used to be the Cenobite menace had a certain amount of class, but those days are over. Heck, the last one I tangled with had the "superpower" of attacking me with some nasty cigarette burns. No way to go through the afterlife.

Bring back this topic.

When I was kid it was de rigueur to ride on the back of somebody's bike. Well I was riding on the back of my brother's bike when for some reason or other I lost my footing. What happened was that I immediately fell back onto the back tire of my brother's bike. The moving tire, which I sat on and then proceeded to rip apart all my delicate seat bits. There's no way to play that off cool.

There's a lot of dental stories here, so I thought I should mention that the week I got my wisdom teeth pulled was the best week ever. When they pulled my wisdom teeth, I was a tiny slip of a boy, maybe a hundred pounds at a good time. The drugs they gave me were way too strong.

Here was my week. Wake up, eat some ramen, brush my teeth, take a pill. I basically slept for a week straight. Fantastic. If I could sleep for a living, I'd sign up no questions asked.

All I can say is "ouch." Some awful stories here!

Both of my most painful experiences have been bicycle related. When I was about eight, I was riding my bike past the local shopping mall when I saw what looked like a dirt path that went off into the woods behind the mall. Curious, I decided to ride my bike down that path and see where it went. Unfortunately, the "path" ended at the top of a wall behind the mall's Dumpsters. I couldn't stop the bike in time and went flying off the top of the wall, fell about six feet, and landed on the side of my face. (I suppose I was lucky I didn't crash directly into one of the dumpsters, or I might not even be here today!) Like an idiot, I got back up and rode my bike back home through a haze of blood and pain (fortunately it was a short ride), and I remember my poor Dad was in the front yard doing yard work when I came screaming up the driveway, he took one look at me and nearly had a heart attack, my face and clothes were covered in blood and dirt and I must've looked like an outtake from a zombie movie. Long story short, it took several hours in the emergency room for the docs to clean all the dirt, grit and gravel out of my face and several stitches at the corner of my mouth to close where I'd ripped my lip.

Years later, I'd upgraded to a ten speed bike, and was riding it down a particularly steep hill on my way to go play some video games at a friend's house. I reach the bottom of the hill, try to slow down at the bottom... brakes don't work. In a panic, I look up - telephone pole. BLAM! Smack into it head on and  hit the ground. My brother, who was riding in front of me, kept right on going and had no idea anything had happened till he turned around to say something to me and I wasn't there! He turned around and found me in a heap on the ground bleeding from my knee and a gash on my head. That got me my first ride in an ambulance and six more stitches in my knee. I haven't been on a bicycle since then.  :teddyr:

Oh, and about two weeks ago I fell off the roof of my RV trailer while I was covering it up with a tarp for the winter. I attached the tarp to the front of the trailer, hopped up onto the roof from the rear, pulled it all the way to the back, and was going to jump back down to the ground by climbing off the roof onto the attached spare tire. Well, I missed the spare and went crashing all the way to the ground. I still have some bruising on my chest and my arms. The pain wasn't too bad, but the nagging from the wife which is still going on ('next time wait for me to bring you the ladder dammit, you could've broken your neck!' etc.) is unbearable.

Despite being stabbed, gassed and a few other things, the most painful thing I have had to go through was getting the muscles in the bottom of my foot twisted up and caught on each other. I could just see a big lump sticking out of the arch of my foot. The pain was enough that I was unable to do anything but be in my own private world of agony. In desperation I recall kicking my foot against the corner of a wooden box, hoping to force the lump back inside. Unsurprisingly this did not help. It felt like there was a drill inside my foot and it was boring its way outside. I couldn't even tell the other person in the room what was wrong. It really ruined the sex we had been having.

Being bullied in high school: I fell, hit my head, got up, confronted the bully and I kicked him in the side of the head just as HE was getting to his feet from tackling me. I continued kicking him until he stopped moving, I got violent with people who were trying to restrain me and I almost attacked the shocked teacher. That would have gotten me expelled as I completely lost it.

I will never get that angry or be hurt like that ever again: I nearly killed someone.  :buggedout:

All this talk of balls and bell-ends, reminds me that I once had my erection stamped on. That was pretty bad.

Sympathy pain.  I once had mine bent at an extreme angle.  It slipped out during some enthusiastic pumping, and the girl thrust backwards hard and bent it nearly double on itself.  She mistook the meaning of my scream and thrust back even harder.

I ate a steering wheel of a 1963 Chevy pickup.
Still have a large scar on my chin.
Didn't taste good either. Some how I kept my front teeth, but spit out some of my back teeth.
Broke both my legs, too. Worst part- It was my buddy Bud Mortimore's truck. He just bought it. I was going to town on a beer run when me, Bud, and Gary were fishing.

1. Having Daisy. I smirked at the idea of childbirth being as bad as I'd heard and figured I'd show 'em how it was done, and while I did make it through naturally.....it hurt. A bunch. I was shocked how much it did. The next two times were never nearly as bad.

2. Nevermind.

3. Stubbed my toe walking in the dark one night, bit my tongue, fell sideways and smacked my funny bone, before coming to rest hitting my chin on a doorframe. I'd pay to see a video of that incident.

I had severe kidney stones in 1996: very, very painful and I had meds which zonked me out for hours.

My folks were still near me at the time (driving distance) and my Dad told me to request leave for a week and come stay with them which I did. I felt better after two days of home cooked meals but they insisted that I stay the whole time which I did. I remember watching Unforgiven with Dad on TV then.
