I'm a bit puzzled too, as to why people would take eggs to a concert - they obviously already intended to egg her before even knowing that she was going to take to a wheelchair, but then again, they have paid for tickets...

I think its a gag that pays homage to the old vuadville times where rotten produce and other things would be thrown to get bad performers off the stage(I think, Im not certain however and I'm too lazy to look it up.) As for what happened, I'm not seeing anything to indicate the egging in this case was because she was in a wheelchair. Seems more like some pranksters brought eggs with the intent to throw them regardless. And from a practical point of view, her reduced mobility in that situation would have made her a great target. What I wonder is whether the media themselves made it about the wheelchair, or Gaga's own people spun it that way to play her up as a controversial and provocative artiste.
